Mission Statement
Hitachi Data Systems will deliver rock-solid data storage, protection, retention and recovery
solutions for the enterprise.
Data protection has always been “software-defined.” HDS is making it “business-defined.”

End-to-End Protection and Recovery
Service level-based protection: backup windows, recovery point and time objectives, retention, and failure tolerance
Operational recovery
Disaster recovery
Long-term recovery
Local restoration of data following an event § Lost file, application, volume or system
Restore operations from (or at) another physical location § Fire, flood, earthquake, power failure or worse
Retain data for governance and compliance § Data mining, e-discovery, audits, and reference archives

§ What is Data Flow ‒ Enables to defines the various
data protection methods with single model, regardless of copy technology or copy destination
‒ Is the key concept enabling HDID to achieve holistic data protection with single tool
‒ Consists of four components:
1. Source Node
2. Data Mover
3. Destination Node

§ Cascading Data Flow ‒ With cascading or multi-
targeting the Data Flows, you can defines / visualizes the holistic data protection
‒ HDID provides topological view, enabling intuitive Data Flow definition with drag-and-drop operations
§ Synchronized Operation ‒ HDID also allows synchronized
operations among Data Flows, taking the same copy on the local and remote site
‒ For the synchronized operation, setup appropriate scheduling on the Policy Definition

Overview of HDID operations
User Operations
HDID allows you to register machines (Source nodes, and Destination nodes) through the Node Manager.
The nodes can be assigned to a group for easier management.
The Policy Definition, and Data Flow allows you to define policy, and then assign them to the Source nodes and Destination nodes.
A large, complex environment can be configured in a matter of minutes rather than days.
Once the policies have been activated, the whole environment can be monitored through the Monitor and Log Manager.
Also, the backup can be seen by performing a search in the Restore.
