FRIDAY 7TH AUGUST CURRICULUM DAY
Those students already being supervised at school, will continue to attend school between 26th
May and 9th June. The current process that we are using to enable parents and carers to indicate
the days or part-days for which on-site schooling is required will continue for this two-week
period.
Once a year level has returned, all students will be expected to attend school as normal. This means
if you choose to keep your child/children home after their year level has returned to on-site
schooling, we can no longer support their learning from home.
This does not apply to children who need to be absent for health or medical reasons. For those
families, please contact us so we can make an appropriate plan. To support the health and wellbeing
of all our students and staff, our school will continue an enhanced cleaning routine and will
encourage frequent hand washing. If you child is ill or is feeling unwell, they must not attend
school. They must remain home and seek medical advice.
A reminder that there will BE staggered start and finish times for drop-off and pick-up times.
Parents and non-essential visitors will be unable to enter the school. Whilst outside the school, all
parents should practise physical distancing at all times.
We understand that some families may feel anxious about this move back to classroom teaching and
learning. I can assure you that this decision has been taken on the basis of the best health advice
available to our state. More information about the return to school and coronavirus (COVID-19) can
be found on the Department’s website, which will continue to be updated:
https://www.education.vic.gov.au/about/department/Pages/coronavirus.aspx
Thank you for your continued support and patience during this time. We look forward to welcoming
our students back to the classroom.
IF STUDENTS/STAFF ARE UNWELL THEY MUST NOT ATTEND SCHOOL
One way to slow the spread of viruses, such as coronavirus, is physical distancing (also called
social distancing). There is a range of measures we are taking to support physical distancing and
reduce transmission within the practical limitations of a school environment.
Message for parents: if your child is sick, they must not go to school. You must keep them at
home and away from others. Remember to maintain physical distancing from other parents and
teachers when attending school, including when dropping- off and picking- up your children.
Message for children: tell your parent, guardian or teacher if you are feeling sick.
Message for teachers: do not come to work if you are sick or in a vulnerable person category.
Message for all adults: the greatest risk of transmission in the school environment is between
adults. It is of upmost importance that teachers and parents alike maintain physical distancing
between themselves and each other at school.
URGENT
SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
In accordance with the Education and Training Reform Act 2006, schooling is compulsory for
children and young people aged from 6 – 17 years unless an exemption has been granted.
For absences where there is no exemption in place, a parent/guardian must promptly provide an
explanation on each occasion to the school.
Schools must maintain attendance records, identify and follow up unexplained absences to support
and maintain attendance.
All student absences are to be sent either through:
Flexibuzz or
School’s email – [email protected] or
School’s telephone 98038311
on the day of the student’s absence.
2021 KINDERGARTEN AND PREP ENROLMENTS – MOVING ON FROM COVID-19
It is that time of year when schools normally would be commencing preparation for the following
year as student numbers are critical to the school’s staffing structure.
Understandably this may not be high on families’ agendas at the moment, but it is on the school’s
agenda as the 2021 workforce planning schedule has commenced. It is imperative that we have
knowledge of numbers for staffing and other resources.
I would ask you to please complete the required Student Admission Enrolment Form if you intend
enrolling your child at Burwood Heights Primary School and Kindergarten in 2021. This form is
available on the school’s website or you are able to contact the office and it will be forwarded to
you.
Your prompt attention to this matter would be greatly appreciated.

SCHOOL UNIFORM
It is the policy of Burwood Heights Primary School and Kindergarten that all students wear the
correct school uniform – that is, uniform is compulsory.
The benefits of uniform are numerous: it is cost effective over time; it helps give students a sense
of belonging to the school community and allows them to feel an equal part of the schools and, when
worn correctly, it presents a neat and unified image.
UNIFORM SHOP IS CLOSED DURING TERMS TWO AND THREE THIS YEAR
School uniform is available only by ordering through QKR, due to the government restrictions
regarding adults on-site.
1 Orders placed before 5.00pm on a Sunday will be distributed to the student on the following
Tuesday.
2 Order forms are available on our website.
Girls’ Winter and Spring Uniform
School tunic, polo shirt (short or long sleeved) jacket and navy or black tights or leggings and black
shoes. Long pants may be worn.
Boys Winter and Spring Uniform
Long pants, polo shirt (short or long sleeved) and jacket, black shoes, white or grey socks.
BOYS’ WINTER / SPRING UNIFORM
Sports shirt and sports shorts may be worn on days when there is Inter-school Sport or Physical
Education sessions.
A reminder that nail polish is not to be worn at school. If hair touches the shoulders it should be tied
back with a blue ribbon or school scrunchie. The only pieces of jewellery permitted are a watch
and plain gold or silver studs.
BURWOOD HEIGHTS PRIMARY – T2, 2020
RESUMPTION OF SERVICE
WEDNESDAYS AND FRIDAYS FROM 29TH MAY!
Greetings to everyone at BHPS! We hope that you and your families have all managed well through the Covid19 Change of Life.
It’s been wonderful and we are extremely grateful to have received so many emails from your school community sending kind wishes to our business in what has been a particularly difficult time…..obviously,
we’ve been totally shuttered but it’s now time, as our children return to face to face learning, to take tentative steps back to life - with your continued support.
Obviously, the landscape looks a bit different for us in terms of running our Food Preparation Kitchen and our Packing Room with the new social distancing guidelines. We want you to know and be assured that we have Food Safety and Occupation Health and Safety at the forefront of our minds. In our workplace Masks,
Gloves and Temperature Checks will be the new norm for all of our staff. In terms of Food Handling and Safety we’ve always adhered to best practice and fortunately never had a food safety issue so we’re
confident we can operate safely on that level!
In the first instance for the remainder of Term 2, while we find our way in this new normal, we will be operating on Wednesdays and Fridays with a reduced Menu which will be posted online shortly.
We look forward to resuming our service and continuing to delight your school community with our Lunch Service.

School Song – We Need Your Help!
Dear Students,
We are delighted to announce the creation of a school song! As part of this we
need your help by sharing what you love about our wonderful school
community. To take part, please prepare a few sentences sharing what you
love about our unique learning environment. You could include ideas like being
part of a fabulous dance program,
playing in the garden or learning in a
supportive environment. There will
be an area to share your ideas in the
music section of Class Dojo online
next week. Once we have collated
student responses, this will form the
lyrics. Looking forward to hear your
responses!
Kind regards,
Mrs Zavou
