Burned Out!

Luke 10:38-42Mark 3:14-15

Page 3: Burned out

1. The newness wears off. When we first become a Christian or see

God’s awesomeness in our own life, the experience is unlike any other (life-altering).

Over time, if we neglect our RELATIONSHIP with God, we set ourselves up for a burn-out. (Proverbs 18:24)

Proverbs 18:24 (NIV)

24 A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Don’t let your Christian walk become “incentive-based.”

2. We are “human BEINGS,” not “human DOINGS.” FIRST, Jesus wanted us to BE WITH HIM. Secondly,

Jesus has tasks for us (Mark 3:14-15).

Mark 3:14-15 (NIV)

14He appointed twelve—designating them apostles—that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach 15and to have authority to drive out demons.

Jesus has tasks for us (Mark 3:14-15). Get our priorities straight (Luke 10:38-42).

Luke 10:38-42 (NIV) 38As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. 40But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!" 41"Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, 42but only one thing is needed.[a] Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."

1.Martha was the “head of the household”2.Martha let her responsibilities overshadow her

guest.3.Mary took advantage of the situation.4.Again, this is a reminder straight from Jesus that

DOING STUFF FOR HIM will NEVER replace SPENDING TIME WITH HIM.

3. “The longer we have followed Jesus, the greater the likelihood is that we will commit this error.” The more we serve Jesus, the easier it becomes

to think THAT’s what He wants. Jesus didn’t give His life on the cross so we

could do stuff; He gave His life on the cross because He loved us.

He wants us to serve Him, but not at the expense of being with Him.
