(Hebrews 4:15) My dear brothers and Sisters in Christ, the action of this little boy’s father (Bob) in the above story says it all, as we all aspire to be like God our Father, Just as the followers of Jesus in today’s gospel have the assurances of entering into the heavenly glory hereafter but they must for the time being put up with certain challenges that must come their way, so we must also be ready to give up something much more than explanation and a hug. Last Tuesday I was delighted to lead the Opening Liturgy for Marymount College,

and especially to induct our College leaders. Congratulations to Karla

Macpherson, Joshua Muir, Carlie Rached, Thomas Morey and the other sixteen

student leaders.

Then on Wednesday our Year 6 students from Marymount Primary were blessed

as they take on a leadership role in our Primary school.

Our prayers go with all our students and those who take on special

responsibilities. Fr Ken

THE WAY OF THE CROSS Stations of the Cross is a popular practice in parishes during Lent. This form of devotion arose after pilgrims began to visit the Holy Land from the end of the 4th century to follow the path that Jesus trod in his last week of life. Christians who were unable to travel to Palestine themselves reproduced a parallel devotion at home. The Franciscans popularised the practice during the Middle Ages, but the number and subject of the stations was not settled until the 18th century. The fourteen stations that were established were a blend of biblical and legendary material. There is no set way of praying the Stations and the Church has never provided an official ritual for the celebration. In 1975 the Congregation for Sacred Rites suggested a list of Stations of the Cross that is more in keeping with the gospel accounts than the traditional form. It begins with the Last Supper and concludes with Christ's resurrection. Recent popes have used yet another set of Stations when celebrating the Way of Cross at the Colosseum during Holy Week. The terms "Stations of the Cross" and "Way of the Cross" refer to the same devotional practice. The latter may be better as it emphasises the spiritual journey aspect of the prayer. Official guidelines for celebrating the Way of the Cross suggest that is always preferable to choose texts written in a clear simple style and to end the celebration with a commemoration of the Lord's resurrection "to leave the faithful with a sense of expectation of the resurrection in faith and hope". © Elizabeth Harrington, Liturgy Brisbane

EXTRAORDINARY JUBILEE OF MERCY

SEAT OF MERCY FOR SOUTH COAST DEANERY -

SACRED HEART CHURCH, 50 Fairway Dr, Clear

Island Waters Archbishop Mark Coleridge has designated Sacred Heart

Church as a pilgrimage church of mercy. The Holy Door

was opened on 12 February and anyone who passes

through the Holy Door is able to obtain a plenary

indulgence (for the temporal punishment of sins) under

the usual conditions. This means celebrating the

sacrament of Reconciliation, Holy Eucharist with a

reflection on mercy; profession of faith (Creed); a prayer

for the intentions of the Pope (Our Father, Hail Mary,

Glory Be).

Additional Reconciliation times have been made

available at Sacred Heart:

Friday 10 - 11.30am; 5 - 6.30pm

It is encouraged that all the faithful take this opportunity

to deepen their spiritual lives in the Jubilee of Mercy.

SUNG EVENING PRAYER DURING LENT occurs each

Monday at 5.30pm in Infant Saviour Church, Burleigh Heads, during the six weeks of Lent. Over the weeks we pray for the cleansing and healing of our brokenness, acknowledging God as our strength. We pray for Jesus to make us free and for the renewal of God's gifts in our hearts. As we raise our voices in song during this Lenten service of reconciliation we call on God for mercy and compassion as we pray the psalms for peace and pardon for our transgressions.

Stations of the Cross Mondays, 8.30am, Miami

Fridays, 6.30am, Palm Beach

Archbishop Mark Coleridge invites you to the annual Chrism Mass

Cathedral of St Stephen Wednesday 16 March, 7pm.

A celebration for the entire Archdiocese. All welcome.

LAYING OF THE FOUNDATION STONE FOR OUR NEW CHURCH AND PARISH CENTRE Our Parish will come together on Sunday 6 March for 10am Mass in the Doyle Centre of Marymount. At the end of Mass we will process "up the hill" to the building site and there the Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Yllana, will bless the site and lay the foundation stone. Morning tea will follow in the Primary school "shed". As this will be the only Sunday morning Mass celebrated in the Parish, we will offer transport from all churches to Marymount and returning after morning tea. If you would like bus transport to Marymount, please write your details on the clipboard sheet at the back of your church today. Times of departure will be advised later. [Saturday and Sunday evening Masses will be celebrated as normal.]

In 2015 Pope Francis said that "every

person ought to have the awareness that purchasing is always a moral - and not simply an economic - act". Are you buying Slavery-free Easter Chocolate? - Did you know that much of the chocolate available in Australia comes from cocoa beans picked by children, many of whom have been enslaved, or forced to work in exploitative conditions? The International Labor Rights Forum estimates that there are 1.5 million children working in the cocoa sector in West Africa. To buy slavery-free Easter chocolate look for any of these certification labels on the wrappers: Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance and UTZ. Go to the ACRATH website: acrath.org.au to find out more.

PROJECT COMPASSION: With limited support services for children living with intellectual disabilities in Laos, Duangmala feared that her eight year old son, Hum Noy, would never reach his full potential because he has Down Syndrome. However, he now has the chance to learn and thrive at a school for children with intellectual disabilities, supported by Caritas Australia. Please donate to Project Compassion and help children living with intellectual disabilities in Laos learn, grow and reach their full potential.

The Anning, Moynihan and McLoughlin families wish to thank everyone for their prayers and support during the illness and passing of Margaret Anning. We would especially like to thank the Catholic Women's League for their generous assistance with catering and hospitality after the Funeral Mass. We are grateful to the management, staff, chaplains and volunteers at Ozanam Villa for the exceptional loving care they gave to Margaret and her family.

Liturgical Music for Second Sunday of Lent

Next week’s readings: Ex 3:1-8,13-15; 1 Cor 10:1-6,10-12; Lk 13:1-9

INTRODUCTORY RITES: Gathering: We Walk By Faith We walk by faith, and not by sight: no gracious words we hear of him who spoke as none e'er spoke, but we believe him near. We may not touch his hands and side, nor follow where he trod; yet in his promise we rejoice, and cry "My Lord and God!" Help then, O Lord, our unbelief, and may our faith abound; to call on you when you are near, and seek where you are found: That when our life of faith is done in realms of clearer light we may behold you as you are in full and endless sight. © 1984, Marty Haugen, GIA Publications

LITURGY OF THE WORD: Lord, have mercy. Kyrie, eleison. Kyrie, eleison. Christ, have mercy. Christe, eleison. Christe, eleison. Lord, have mercy. Kyrie, eleison. Kyrie, eleison. Psalm Response: The Lord is my light and my salvation.

Gospel Acclamation: Praise and honour to you, Lord Jesus Christ! If today you hear his voice; harden not your hearts. Praise and honour to you, Lord Jesus Christ!

LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST: Acclamation: Save us, Saviour of the world, for by your cross and resurrection you have set us free.

LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST: Communion Processional: Open My Eyes Open my eyes, Lord. Help me to see your face. Open my eyes, Lord. Help me to see. Open my ears, Lord. Help me to hear your voice. Open my ears, Lord. Help me to hear. Open my heart, Lord. Help to love like you. Open my heart, Lord. Help me to love. I live within you, deep in your heart, O love. I live within you. Rest now in me. © 1988, Jesse Manibusan, OCP Publications

CONCLUDING RITES Dismissal: (organ) Please remain in silence until the procession has left the church
