[Messages from Mary & Bert

To Our Dear Friends,

In our last newsletter to you we mentioned how it seemed Satan was

working overtime to mess things upas the century was coming to a close.Weil, since the Lord did not yet come,it seems Satan is working evenharder. In our struggles we must remember with whom we battle: "For

our struggle is not against fleshand blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against thepowers of this dark world andagainst the spiritual forces of evilIn the heavenly realms." (Eph. 6:12)We can praise the Lord in our struggles, because we know we are notalone and we can be prepared forthem. "Therefore, put on the fullarmor of God, so that when the dayof evil comes, you may be able tostand your ground, and after youhave done everything, to stand."(Eph. 6:13) "Who shall separate usfrom the love of Christ? Shall

trouble or hardship or persecutionor famine or nakedness or dangeror sword? As it is wrlu^: 'For

your sake we face death all daylong; we are considered as sheepto be slaughtered.' No, In all thesethings we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. ForI am convinced that neither death

nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor thefuture, nor any powers, neitherheight nor depth, nor anything elseIn all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that Is

In Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans8:35-39) Satan loves to discourage, todivide, and to get God's people tofight against each other for the purpose of disturbing the work of theLord. As much as Satan attacks, we

are conquerors through Jesus andHis power. Please pray for us in thebattle, not only when Satan attackshere at the Home, but among fellowworkers and in the churches.

January was a busy month! Ourannual missionary get-together washeld in late December of 1999 so we

could all be home in time for the NewYear. Five days into the New Year,Eldon Potts and his group arrivedin Manila. Part of his group went tothe Alvin Ray Carlson Memorialcamp in Santander and worked for aweek rebuilding the Session Hall. Amedical team came here to the

Home and held a free clinic for the

children and staff, and also for the

community:—rne team also visitedtwo Agta villages. They treated hundreds of people. Later, all the gang(37 total) reunited here, some stayinghere at the Home and some stayingin Aparri. We had a wonderful time, culminating once again in a big partywith gifts for all the children, a hot dogand marshmallow roast (somethingforeign to our kids), and tears wheneveryone left. They also made threetire swings for the kids which are enjoyed immensely! We are grateful forthe work these men and woman ac

complished.

A few days after Eldon's group left, the Executive Director of the Holt

extension In the Philippines arrivedfrom Manila. The kids put on a quickprogram for them, and we enjoyedtheir visit.

February: Two days later Mary andOfella headed to the States for Ofe-

lia's six-month checkup. The doctorswere again very pleased with theprogress Ofelia is making with thegrowth hormone. She goes beyondtheir expectations and we know this isa blessing from the Lord. Thank youto all of you who have helped withOfelia's treatment, either through giftsof money for medicine or air fare, through prayers, or by providinghousing. We are blessed each timewith the love and hospitality shownus. An added blessing has been for

April 2000}us to visit some of our kids who havebeen adopted into the States.

While in the States, Mary was able tojoin in the 50th anniversary of herAlma Mater, Puget Sound ChrlstlahCollege in Edmonds, WA. It was joy

Tor her to see many of her fellowclassmates, some for the first timesince her graduation 25 years ago.Mary was a speaker for MissionsEmphasis Week at the college, and"roomed" once again with her formerroommate during her two-week stayin the area. The fellowship in all thiswas sweet.

Bert made sure all things operatedsmoothly at the Home during thistime, but he was not to be without afew challenges! Satan never takes aday off, and Christians are nevergiven a vacation from his evilscheming. We are thankful for theLord's help in working out theseproblems. We were also able tomake some badly needed repairs onsome of our buildings. It Is now therainy season, and some termite eatenareas were a concern to us. We

were afraid that these weakened ar

eas might easily be destroyed by atyphoon. We are thankful for the re-sen/e funds available to make these

repairs.

March: Accompanying Ofelia andMary on their return flight to the Phii-ippines was Naomi RIceirom Salem,OR, and four men from RedwoodChristian Church in Grants Pass,OR. Naomi came to help out however possible at the Home, doing a lotof sorting and organizing during herone month stay. The men went to thecampground to continue the work onthe Session Hall. They worked hardin the heat and accomplished much intheir two weeks. They also purchased a small cement mixer for the

camp to have for future use! All fivepeople were a great blessing to us.We are so grateful for these willingworkers, and for those who backedthem up financially and with prayer. We know they could not have comeand shared their talents and abilities

without their sponsors sending them.

They are now looking for a new cook, but the otherworkers are covering the job well until a new cook is hired. VVe praise theLord for the good workers that wehave in Solano who are able to continue on with the work even thoughthe Davidsons are not there. AGTA NEWS

We want to thank those who havesent money for building a separateliving facility for the Agta when theycome to visit. Many of the Agta haveillnesses, especially TB, and weneed a place for them to stay withoutspreading their illnesses to the children. This ministry is carried onthrough designated funds only. Wealso ask your prayers for wisdom asSatan has been working hard to discourage our involvement in the Agtaministry. Some Agta are saying weare not giving them "their money",thinking we are using them to appealfor funds and then not passing it onto them. This is discouraging to uswhen we know it is not true. It isSatan's attempt to disrupt an effective ministi7, one that is making adifference in the lives of the Agta. But the Lord is great and He willhave the victory. We continue tosend pastors to the villages and sendthe designated funds that help thechildren go to school, but we are notdoing as many other projects at thistime.
