1.0 FOREWORD

This manual deals with the product certification scheme of BIS & its operation issues for Irrigation Equipment – Emitting Pipes Systems in accordance with IS 13488 :2008 .

2.0 DESCRIPTION OF PRODUCT

2.1 This manual refers to the product Irrigation Equipment – Emitting Pipes Systems intended to emit water in the form of drops and continuous flow at nominal emission rates not exciding 8 l/h per emitting unit at nominal test pressure. Pipes shall be classified by pressure ratings

Class 1 0.100 Mpa

Class 2 0.125 Mpa

Class 3 0.250 Mpa

Class 4 0.400 Mpa

According to type of operation emitting pipes shall be designated as Unregulated category B and regulated Category A

2.2 ISS has no amendments issued till date.

2.3 Reference of Indian Standards for raw materials and components , test procedures / methods

IS 12786 : 1989

IS 13479 : 1992

3,0 RAW MATERIALS / COMPONENTS

3.1 Polyethylene – Code PE 25

3.2 All raw materials shall

1. Resistance to Fertilizers & chemicals finding common use in irrigation. 2. Suitability for use with water at temperature up to 60º C. 3. Not supporting growth of algas and bacterial. 4. Opaque as well as resting UV degradation when exposed. 5. Not more than 10% of rework material to be used in manufacturing process.

4.0 MANUFACTURING PROCESS , IN PROCESS CONTROL &

INFRASTRUCTURE

4.1 A typical manufacturing process

1. Charging of raw material to extruder 2. Extrusion ( Moulding & Maintaining desired OD & thickness ) 3. Extrusion of emitting units 4. Introduction of emitting units in side the PE pipes at desired spacing intervals 5. Heat Embossing clear permanent marking (Cl 10 of ISS) on the pipe 6 .Cutting & Coiling as per nominal length 7 .Packing & dispatch.

4.2 Process control involves checking of

1) Internal Diameters 2) Wall thickness 3) Spacing of emitting units 4) Emitting units flow provision in the product

4.3 Manufacturing infrastructure Plant layout to be verified for

1. Continuous Power & Water supply 2. Raw material storage space 3. Manufacturing area for number of extruders, moulds , sizers, coiling

Machinery, cutting devices and emitting unit extrusion facility or its procurement arrangement , fittings manufacturing / procurement arrangement.

4. Finished product storage area & identification protocol according to product Class & OD / LPH/ Category/ Operation Type . 5. Quality control area with location of test equipments and calibration facility if available in house. 6. Wash room and canteen facilities for employees.

7. Main entrance, compound and total area consumed for manufacturing and QC functions .

8 Nature of construction

5.0 CERTIFICATION CRITERIA

5.1 Critical requirements of ISS

1.Inside diameter & Wall thickness 2. Uniformity of Emission Rate 3. Resistance to Hydrostatic Pressure 4. Resistance to pull out of points between fitting and emitting pipes 5. Flow path in emitting pipes 6. Spacing of emitting units 7. Emitting units exponent for regulated pipes

5.3 Marking Fee

Rate Rs 0.35 Unit 1 Kg for all units Minimum Marking Fee LS 62000/- SS 53000/-

5.4 Grouping Guidelines

One sample of same designation (Cl 9.1 & 9.2) &n same class shall be drawn for independent testing after verification of complete manufacturing and testing facilities for all pipe dimensions and designation requirements intended for grant of licence scope. After grant of licnce one sample designation and class wise may be drawn for independent testing .

5

5.5 Scope of License

It shall indicate clearly class and designation i.e. nominal outside diameter – emission rates – class – emitters spacing – type of operation (regulate / unregulated) – uniformity category(a & b).In addition to this nominal pressure as well as range of working pressure shall also be indicated

5.6 Inclusion of New Verities

Under normal procedure after verification of complete manufacturing and test equipments samples of new varities (Class and designation wise) i is to be drawn for independent testing & based on conformity status of the sample inclusion may be permitted. Under simplified procedure CMD guidelines to be followed.

5.7 Drawl of Samples

Preliminary inspection :-

1) Raw material i.e compounded PE material (Master batch) 1 Kg 2) Coil length having at list 30 emitting units base on there spacing intervals 3) 10 emitting units separately

5.8 Sealing of Samples

IO after signing on sample coil , it may be wrapped with transparent PE Film and IO’s Tag indicating Sample Code and details is to be tied with impression of BIS logo wax seal.

5.9 Sample remnants to be scrapped

5.10 Non conforming products may be used as reworked material in process or it may be sold as commercial material after complete removal of BIS certification mark with due intimation to BIS and seeking permission of regulator.

6.0 Inspection and Testing :-

6.1 PE Film & thread and sound thread for tie-up of sample Coil
