Reactions 1451 - 11 May 2013 S Bupropion Visual hallucinations in an elderly patient: case report An 81-year-old man experienced visual hallucinations following treatment with bupropion for fatigue associated with multiple sclerosis. The man, who had a history of post- traumatic stress disorder with chronic auditory hallucinations, initiated bupropion 150mg once daily [route not stated] for fatigue associated with multiple sclerosis. His dosage was later increased to 150mg twice daily. He experienced new onset visual hallucinations following dose elevation with exacerbation of auditory hallucinations [duration of treatment to reaction onset not stated]. Bupropion was tapered off, and his visual hallucinations resolved; auditory hallucinations also regressed returning to baseline level. No recurrence of visual hallucinations was reported. Author comment: "Based on his clinical course, it appears that his visual hallucinations were bupropion-induced." Karino S, et al.
