Dear Parents,

Another very, very busy fortnight. Last Friday, we celebrated all things science. As part

of our Science curriculum we spent the day immersed in our Science unit on physical

forces.

Students designed and created push, pull toys, simple machines and wind turbines. It

was fantastic to see students transform their ideas and work to make, test and improve

upon their original design ideas. Over the next weeks, students will continue to develop

on their designs using methods of fair testing.

On Tuesday, the NRL team came out to talk to the students, conduct some activities

and share some wonderful promotional items. Each and every student participated

whole heartedly and enjoyed the morning.

On Wednesday, we had the absolute please of welcoming author, Aleesah Darlison to

the school. Aleesah spoke to the students about creative writing and then conducted a

writing workshop for the Years 2—6 students.

Scholastic Book Fair has arrived and will be open from the 12th to the 15th of August,

from 8:30 — 9:00 and 3:00 — 4:00 pm. The theme of the fair this year is Dino-Mite.

During Art, at school, students will create and make a mystical dragon hat/mask. Stu-

dents will display these during parade on the 16th of August with prizes for the best cre-

ations. All purchases at the fair go towards points to provide literacy resources for the

school.

Book Week is from the 19th to the 23rd of August. To celebrate, we will have a special

day on Friday the 23rd August. Students may come to school dressed in the theme of

“Reading is my Secret Superpower”. On parade we will have prizes for the most

creative costumes.

Kind Regards,

Leanne

Gordon and Stevie

What’s Happening in our

class.

In the 3-6 class, we have finished

our Math unit math fractions, deci-

mals and percentage. We are now

starting on chance /data.

We are continuing our English unit

on informative texts. In this unit we

are planning, writing and publishing

our own informative text using digi-

tal software.

A Note From Us

On Tuesday we had lots of fun

when Regan and Bryce from the

NRL came to visit us. The activities

were great and we appreciated

them coming out to visit us. It will

be great to see them again at

Sports Camp.

We also met and worked with

Aleesah Darlison and had fun writ-

ing our own creative short stories.

High School News

On Sunday the 28th, the Charleville

School of Distance Education left for

snow camp. It was a long journey and

many of the students were very tired.

We arrived at our first camp cabins. We

had dinner, settled in and had a

questionnaire before bedtime. Tuesday

morning, we set off to visit Parliament

House and the War Memorial. That

night we went to see the amazing view

of Canberra from the Telstra Tower.

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday we

learnt how to ski and had great fun.

There were a lot of falls and crashes.

We all managed to get up and go again

when we had an accident.

There are many memories from this

camp and we all had a great time. We

will not forget this remarkable once in a

life time trip.

ville School of Distance Education.

Another very busy week in the K-2 room. This week we have been continuing to work on our informative text. We have looked at the echidna this week and used our research to write an in-formative text. We have also had many visitors. Children’s author, Aleesah Darlison spoke to us about creating fantasy creatures and settings. Our wonderful police officers have worked with us about keeping safe and we practised crossing the road safely. We have also been practising relaxa-tion techniques with the Years 3-6 class.
