The Four - Way TestOf the things we think, say, or do:

* Is it the TRUTH?

*Is it FAIR to all concerned?

*Will it build GOODWILL and

BETTER FRIENDSHIP?

*Will it the BENEFICIAL to all

concerned?

Of the thousands of matters on which [Rotarians] of so diverse a complexion disagree, [on]

one we are in perfect accord. We believe in the brotherhood of man…

Rotary International itself offers a preview of a world at peace.”

Editorial

The month of February is very special in the Rotary calendar since it is designated World Understanding Month. The month also includes the anniversary of the first meeting of Rotary held on February 23, 1905, now designated World Understanding and Peace Day. In designating World Understanding Month, the Rotary International board asks all Rotary clubs to plan programs for their weekly meeting and undertake special activities to emphasize "understanding and goodwill as essential for world peace."

To observe this designated month, many clubs arrange international speakers, invite youth exchange students and international scholars from schools and universities to club meetings, plan programs featuring former Group Study Exchange team members, arrange discussions on international issues, present entertainment with an international cultural or artistic them and schedule other programs with an international emphasis. Many clubs take the opportunity to launch an international community service activity or make contact with a Rotary club in another country is a good month to initiate a Rotary Fellowship Exchange, a 3-H project o encourage support for PolioPlus and other Rotary Foundation programs.

In this February we have a special attraction and significance as our own District Conference is scheduled to be held on 22nd & 23rd February at Kala Academy Panaji. In true sense we will be participating in the World Understanding month as our concluding day of conference coincides with the anniversary of the first meeting of Rotary held on February 23, 1905

World Understanding Month is a chance for every club to pause, plan and promote the Fourth Avenue of Service-Rotary's continued quest for goodwill, peace and understanding among people of the world.

RI President’s

Message

It was 109 years ago this month that Paul Harris and three of his friends founded the first Rotary club. His goal was simple: to create an oasis of friendship amid a city of strangers, with those who shared his values.

Over time, the philosophy of Rotary developed and matured, and Rotarian ideals expanded to include service, vocational ethics, and international understanding. As Rotary grew and spread, Paul Harris envisioned a world in which conflict would ultimately melt away – a world where personal connections and acceptance of differences would relegate war to history. If people could only come together in a spirit of friendship and tolerance, he felt, they would soon realize how much they had in common.

Paul Harris was fortunate in his lifetime to see the Rotary idea take hold and establish itself in dozens of countries around the world. Every week, in 34,000 communities, his vision lives on in every Rotary club meeting. But nowhere in the world does Paul Harris' vision take life as vividly as it does at our annual Rotary International convention.

At a convention, for a few short days, we see the world as Paul Harris imagined it: a world where men and women from every corner of the globe come together, to build peace, to serve others, and simply to enjoy one another's company. Differences of background, politics, culture, and religion are woven together, all part of one bright tapestry. It is an unforgettable experience, one that Jetta and I look forward to every year. Every convention is different, and every one becomes a memory that we cherish.

This year, I will have the tremendous privilege of presiding over the 105th Rotary International Convention in Sydney, 1-4 June. Sydney is a vibrant international hub, a gateway between East and West, and a wonderfully appropriate city to host a Rotary convention. It is tremendously diverse, rich in culture and history, and one of my favorite cities to visit; at once exciting and relaxed, it is a place where I know I will always feel at home – and always find something new to see and do.

In 2014, Rotary members will gather to say G'day from Sydney. We will come together as friends and Rotarians, to reach out to the world and to one another, in an environment where all are welcome. I hope you will join us as we celebrate our successes, look to the future, and discover new ways to Engage Rotary, Change Lives.

President Speaks My Dear Fellow Rotarians,We all know that the February Month is designated as “World Understanding Month” in the Rotary Calendar. We will live in peace in this world if we understand each other in our family, business, profession, friends and Rotary. To understand others we need to listen others patiently and carefully. The world is very big and full of diversities. Here live many communities, many tribes, many civilizations with different cultures, traditions and worships. If we understand and respect them we will live in peace in this world.

The five core values in the R.I. strategic plan are Fellowship, Service, Integrity, Diversity and Leadership and their core values are the characteristics that distinguishes Rotary from all other organisations. They are the essence of “who Rotarians are and what Rotarians have in common around the world”. We should be very proud to be Rotarians because the Rotary is always doing lot of good things to the world. Latest good in the world is POLIO FREE NATION INDIA. Every Rotarians should be very Proud in India because their hard work, dedicative and team work has been recognized by WHO and as no new Polio case is detected for last 3 years the INDIA is declared as Polio Free Nation and we all should work more hard to make the World Polio Free i.e. END POLIO NOW.

One day x x x complained to his friend that his elbow really hurt. His friend suggested that he go to a computer at the drug store that can

diagnose anything quicker and cheaper than a doctor.

''Simply put in a sample of your urine and the computer will diagnose your problem and tell you what you can do about it. It only costs

$10." x x x figured he had nothing to lose, so he filled a jar with a urine sample and went to the drug store. Finding the computer, he

poured in the sample and deposited the $10. The computer started making some noise and various lights started flashing. After a brief

pause out popped a small slip of paper on which was printed: "You have tennis elbow. Soak your arm in warm water. Avoid heavy lifting.

It will be better in two weeks."

Later that evening while thinking how amazing this new technology was and how it would change medical science forever, he began to

wonder if this machine could be fooled. He mixed together some tap water, a stool sample from his dog and urine samples from his wife

and daughter. To top it off, he added his sputum into the concoction. He went back to the drug store, located the machine, poured in the

sample and deposited the $10. The computer again made the usual noise and printed out the following message:

“Your tap water is too hard. Get a water softener. Your dog has worms. Get him vitamins. Your daughter is using cocaine. Put her in a

rehabilitation clinic. Your wife is pregnant with twin girls. They aren't yours. Get a lawyer. And if you don't stop pumping off sputum,

your tennis elbow will never get better."
