WARMaruleng’s municipal leadership’s contempt for the law is the catalyst for a full scale war brewing between rate payers and municipal officials.

‘Our’ Miss USA is here!Miss USA 2012, Nana Meriwether who was born in Acornhoek, arrived in Hoedspruit, accompanied by Mrs SA 2012, Lynné de Jager.

Nana obviously has a very special bond with this part of the Lowveld. Although she moved back to the States with her family at the age of three, she very much regards South Africa as home in her heart and comes here two or three times a year. Her mom, Mary, has kept South

African culture alive in their home through food, music, art and movies.

Nana, her mom Mary and dad Delano visited Meriwether School at Zitha Village, a project funded and coordinated by the Meriwether Foundation. The school takes care of orphaned and vulnerable children.

As a co-founder of the Foundation, Nana has a very strong focus on hu-manitarian work, as her parents have led by example by helping those in

need in southern Africa for more than thirty years.

“But this trip has been a real eye opener for me. I didn’t know how endangered rhinos were! We don’t hear about rhino poaching in the US,” says Nana. ‘The plight of rhi-nos has really hit me hard and I have decided to adopt it as a cause. I will carry it back to the States. We need to create a social movement against rhino poaching,” she said.

Nana Meriwether, Miss USA 2012, is seen here surrounded by children from “her” school

Nana is seen here trying her hand at drumming with the the Southern Cross School’s drumming squad.

Residents of Hoedspruit are preparing for a show down with the municipal manager of the Maruleng Municipality, about language issues, the IDP, alleged corruption and a host of smaller issues. Af-riforum’s branch in Hoedspruit is rather actively busy to address these matt ers.

Unfortunately we could not communicate with one of the driv-ing forces behind the Afriforum initaitive, Ms Marie Helm (vice chairman of the branch), for the latest developments before going to print. She is a practicing hypnotherapist and was working in Makhado/Louis Trichardt this week, where we couldn’t trace her.

The Bulletin is in posession of a range of documents which we need to fi rst discuss with her. We trust that we will be able to report on these sensitive matt ers in next week’s edition.

or to be insulting toward others.

• The volume of traffi c in and through Tzaneen has increased over the past few years. Is it becoming a problem for motorists? If yes, what are the three most frustrating aspects that have to be worked on?

• A motorist of Tzaneen posted on our wall that the traffi c department should give a helping hand with the chaos at the crossing at Minitzani. It is clear from our reader’s response that this problem doesn’t aff ect the majority of motorists. Do you think that we in Tzaneen can really complain about peak hour traffi c problems?

Dalk was hy meer sat as siek.

gelope maande wisselvallig in Venezuela, berig ‘n sakenuuspapiertjie vandeesweek.

Maar as mens dom is, is jy dom.

Amerika, nogal.

alisemasjien gekoppel was.

Herderspaar groet

Limpopo MEC for health, dr Norman Mabasa, paid visits to three big hospi-tals in the province after complaints over patients being turned down due to lack of medicines and broken medical instruments.

His visit also formed part of an effort to ensure provision of quality health-care in public hospitals. Poor service levels at hospitals were highlighted ear-lier this year when four babies died due to staff short-ages at the George Masebe hospital.

Following the deaths national health minister, dr Aaron Motsoaledi, released a report outlining how medical doctors tend to take unauthorised leave and report to work late.

Shocking discoveries about food shortgages at hos-pitals have been highlighted by the public, but the de-partment denied its. The photo herewith (supplied to us by the Northern News newspaper in Mokopane) was taken in their provincial hospital. Two slices of dry bread and grated polony (by the looks of it a rath-er cheap quality) are being dished up for people who need nutrional intakes!

• Last year nursing staff had to take water for drinking water and to wash their hands from home to the Kgapane hospital, because of the shortage and bad quality of water at the hospital.

Dominic Obojkovits (19), one of Stanford Lake College’s matrics from last year and now a student at the University of Cape Town, qualified for an Allan Gray bursary to study gaming development. Obojkovits is also rated as a promising young entrepreneur. His decision to start Giant Box Games with one David Nickerson was based on his interest in video game design and a desire to work for himself. At 16, he began developing iPhone apps and used the money from selling these to invest in his other ventures. “I knew I never wanted to work for someone. “It’s everyone’s

dream to a point: independence.”

Caltex logo on koppie caused outrage...Bulletin played a pivotal role in mobilizing an initia-tive to stop an outragous stunt by a Caltex filling station owner at Matoks along the N1 between Makhado/Louis

Trichardt and Polokwane. We were alerted by Ms Cathy Dzerefos,

well-known conservationist and environ-mentalist who lived in Haenertsburg until the end of last year. We in turn alerted our colleagues at the Zoutpansberger newspaper in Makhado/Louis Trichardt, and they imme-diately set the wheels in motion to stop the degrading of a lovely koppie by an enormous Caltex logo being painted on the rock.

Initially nobody knew what to do to stop the abusive stunt attempt, but eventually the newspaper found somebody at Caltex SA’s head office. They acted without delay and stopped the filling station owner of causing anymore damage. They also arranged for a team of cleaners to move in and clean up.

Be-halwe as mens by zero sou vassteek.

Ons Mening The MessageRev Ron Reiners

Anglican Church Tzaneen

The most diffi cult thing to do is to forgive someone, we oft en say “Yes, I forgive you” but I wonder if we are not only paying lip ser-vice to this expression.

People hurt us by their action and most of all by their words. Rumour-mongers abound in this town and the slightest chance they get they will use to spread “the word”, “did you hear….” Many occasions most of this is just hear-say and the real truth or facts are oft en hidden in some obscure message. How do we forgive these people who seem hell-bent on spreading rumours about others? I oft en read and hear about things and wonder why people do not fi nd out the actual truth before opening their mouths.

May this is also a factor in why less and less people are going to church. They just don’t want to face or be seen in the company of those they suspect of spreading ru-mours about them. We all sin and oft en do not do what others expect of us, but why is it necessary for others to gossip about it? What joy do they get from doing this?

I think one of the most diffi cult positions to be in is that of a spouse of a religious leader. All eyes are on them and if the they are not perfect and do what people ex-pect of them they are condemned.

Jesus must have felt the same way when He was on earth. People spread rumours about Him, insulted Him and eventually even put Him to death. Yet with all this happening to Him, He forgave them. Why? Because He loved them no matt er what, there were no conditions to His love. He loves us all even today and readily for-gives us. There is a song that goes something like this “The vilest off ender, a pardon from Jesus receives” So we all should try our best to forgive others no matt er how hard it may be. Jesus did not leave us alone in this quest He gave us the Holy Spirit. Let us open our hearts and minds to accepting this gift from God. Let us learn to forgive.

Blessings

Plaaslik is

Ian Hatt ingh (26) se hande staan vir min verkeerd.

beantwoord hy my vraag nog voordat ek kan vra.

Dit is duidelik dat dié jong man eerder agteroor buig as agteroor sit.

“Sy is my steunpilaar.” Hierdie avontu-

Vireers lê my prioriteite hier, by die Food Lo-ver’s Market.”

Bread and Crumbs is situated in the revamped shopping centre on the corner of Peace and Windsor Streets in Tzaneen. Surrounded by small businesses Peter Vereeck (46) from Belgium opened his restaurant at the beginning of March this year.

Everything at Bread and Crumbs is made inhouse from the breads to the pastries, cookies and Belgian chocolates. No preservatives are used and Peter believes explicitly in organics. Peter says he’s had to learn to modify his recipes to cope with the humidity and the heat. Peter watched and helped his father, a baker, from an early age.

Aft er studying hotel management Peter worked in Switzerland, Italy, the Netherlands and the UK. He had a restaurant near Ghent in Belgium called Pierre pour les Amis (Peter for the friends) for ten years.

Peter wanted to get out of the European rat race. He and his partner, Vir-ginie, decided to move to the Limpopo province as Virginie’s parents have

a farm outside Tzaneen. Virginie helps in the business and the couple have two children who are still studying in Bel-gium.

Bread and Crumbs has a defi nite cosy European feel and the aroma of fresh coff ee and freshly baked breads adds a French touch.

Peter brought a lot of the equipment from Europe and the smaller tables are from his restaurant in Belgium. The big table, in the middle, was made by craft smen from Nkowankowa. The restaurant is open daily from 07:30 to 17:00 and they serve breakfast, lunch and everything in between.

Buying a new house is one of the biggest decisions in most people’s lives; that’s why it’s impera-tive that it is not their worst. Inspect-a-home, a countrywide home-inspection company, will make sure buyers know exactly what they are buying.

Inspect-a-home opened in 1986 in Durban and has grown to 29 branches countrywide, including a branch in Limpo-po. They off er clients a home inspection, which is a visual examination of a property, de-signed to identify defects that are both clearly visible and hidden from view. All physical aspects of the property, from the roof to the foundation, are covered.

The inspectors have extensive knowledge of the building and property industries and are given rigorous, ongoing training. They also regularly att end product courses, to keep up to date with manufacturer’s specifi cations.

All inspections are carried out following a tried and tested patt ern, incorporating twenty years of experience, ensuring that no stone is left unturned. An inspection will not determine the suitability of a property for a specifi c use or the market value of a property. A property can also not pass or fail an inspection. The inspection will help clients

get a realistic picture of the condition of property they are interested in at

the time of the inspection.

Aft er the inspec-tion clients receive

an objective, writt en report, based on the SABS Applied National Building Regulations and the NHBRC’s Home Build-ing Manuals, detailing the de-fects from the roof to founda-tion, off ering solutions and a cost estimation.

Inspect-a-home believes that there has never been a greater need for home inspections by qualifi ed inspectors as there is today. This is due, in part; “to defi cient construction prac-tices, material, and workman-ship” as well as greater con-sumer awareness. Consumers are generally bett er informed and expect the maximum value for what is oft en the largest fi -nancial investment of their life.

When you are looking to buy a new property, make an informed choice and contact Inspect-a-home. The Limpopo branch is run by Mr Greg Willson, who covers Polokwane, Tzaneen, Makhado/Louis Trichardt, Mussina and Hoedspruit. He can be contacted on 082 309 4516/082 309 4516 or [email protected]. Visit the website at www.inspectahome.co.za for more information.

Dynamos will be campaigning under the banner of the Safa second divi-sion next season. They fi nished their NFD programme in the last position on the log. Their fi nal league match was against FC Cape Town, with whom they drew 1-1 at the NNK Stadium last Sunday afternoon.

Dynamos managed to collect only seventeen points this season, one be-hind FC AK, who have also been rele-gated.

Jomo Cosmos wrapped up their league activities on a sad note. They lost 1-2 to Santos at the Athlone Sta-dium, but they managed to escape the relegation axe.

Thanda Royal Zulu failed to secure a place in the promotional play-off s by a whisker. Thanda were leading the pack for the better part of the season, only to fumble at the fi nishing line. Their 1-1 draw against Mpumalanga Black Aces at the Themba Senamela Stadium in

Witbank last Sunday did them more harm than good. They fi nished their league programme in the fourth posi-tion.

Blackburn Rovers shared the spoils with Witbank Spurs, with whom they played to a 2-2 draw in Mthatha Sta-dium. Vasco da Gama beat FC AK 2-0 at the Eldorado Park Stadium and pushed FC AK to the lower division. African Warriors were too good for Mi-lano United when they mercilessly wal-loped them 4-0 at the Charles Mopedi Stadium.

Sivutsa Stars and United FC played to a 1-1 draw at the Kabokweni Sta-dium in Nelspruit. Their 1-0 victory over Roses United was enough to earn Polokwane City a place in the Absa Pre-miership Division. Polokwane City got an automatic promotion to the coun-try’s elite league after completing their league programme on top of the log.

I think, therefore I am” – René Des-cartes

their initial time slot of 14:00 had moved to 08:00 and would be the opening performance of the air show.

Team leader Dewald Venter (Team Valkyrie) and co-organiser Reginald Houghton (Owner AWOL Paintball) stated that the eighty paintball players rose to the challenge and were ready to perform in an hour.

What followed was an intense fi ft een minute batt le

which featured armoured vehicles and pickup trucks. When the dust cleared the private security force emerged as the victors. As the participants left the fi eld in their vehicles they were waved and cheered at by the crowd.

Throughout the day the participants used their new found fame to promote paintball and pose for photos with some fans and very lovely ladies.

It is now offi cial. Black Leopards have been relegated to the Nation-al First Division.

This follows their 1-3 defeat at the hands of Free State Stars in the Free State.

Lidoda Duvha went to the Free State with no chance of escaping outright relegation. The least they could do was to win the match and hope that the other relegation can-didates, Chippa United, lose their match against Amazulu, so that they could secure a place in the platinum promotional playoff s — something which did not happen. Instead, the worst happened as Chippa United came back from a 0-1 defi cit and beat Amazulu 2-1 in Durban.

While Black Leopards are prepar-ing themselves for a new life in the lower league, Chippa United re-main hopeful that they will make the grade in the playoff s, and re-tain their elite-league franchise.

The opening matches for the pro-motional playoff s are scheduled for next Wednesday. Two teams from the National First Division who fi nished their league pro-grammes in second and third posi-

tion, Mpumalanga Black Aces and Santos, will be joined by Chippa United in the playoff s.

Black Leopards fi nished the sea-son with 23 points, fi ve behind Chippa United, who had been lan-

guishing at the bott om of the log since the beginning of the season, until Lidoda Duvha took over three weeks ago.

They managed to win only fi ve matches!

A post mortem to establish what exactly led to the slump by Leo-pards is not necessary, as it is common knowledge that their de-fence was to blame. The strikers managed to score in almost every match, but the defence leaked left , right and centre. The team conce-ded twelve goals in their last three matches, losing 2-5 to Mamelodi Sundowns, 2-4 to Orlando Pirates and 1-3 to Free State Stars.

The chairman of Black Leopards, Mr David Thidiela, has appealed to the residents of Limpopo to con-tinue supporting the club, saying they would do everything within their power to ensure that they re-turn to the elite division at the end of next season.

Lidoda Duvha will receive R400 000 as their “league prize,” while the champions, Kaizer Chiefs, will take home R10 million and a fl oat-ing trophy.

The Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) has encouraged cyclists to take part in the 24th annual PPC Kremetart Cycling Race to be held from 7 to 9 June. With only three weeks to go, cycling fever is mounting in Makhado (Louis Trichardt), who will host more than a thousand cyclists, their families and supporters.

Speaking at a media launch the race organiser from the P&L Cycling Club, Ms Renda Alex-ander, confi rmed that cycling entries for the 175 km four-stage race will be limited to 1 500 entries. For cyclists, the PPC Kremetart Race will aff ord the opportunity to participate in SA’s only one-day stage race, with some of the country’s top cyclists and teams participating.

Alexander also said that the

club had received bookings from cyclists as far as Namibia and Belgium. The tandem cate-gory, she said, had also elicited a record number of entries.

This year, the race organisers have arranged more than one spectator bus to accommodate supporters of the race. There will also be lots of entertain-ment for family and friends of cyclists in the family fun village. For the less adventurous, there is a 70 km road race, a kid’s race and a 10 km fun race. For moun-tain bikers, there will be a cross-country race on the Sunday, which will also be a qualifying race for Limpopo colours.

Team Odin6 together with players from Northern War Cry joined several other regional teams for fi rst ever mass paintball demonstra-tion in South Africa at the Swartkop Air Show earlier this month.

The fi ctitious batt le scenario involved a private security force which had to stop the sale of WMD (weapons of mass destruction) to a criminal organisation. In true military tradition the air show organisers informed the participants at 06:00 in the morning that
