Da Vinci Decathlon Success Yesterday the St. Dominic’s Year 6 team competed at St. Peter’s Girls’ School in the Da Vinci Decathlon. Congratulations on achieving first place in the Engineering competition and second place in the Art and Poetry section. Well done!

Gardening ClubWe want to say thank you to all the classes for their good job in using the compost bins properly. We were very impressed with the Reception who had collected the most compost and now we can feed our worms. Keep on composting. We thank Ms Tarraran who has been doing an amazing job with the Primary garden. P i p e r a n d C l a r e (Year 4) for the Gardening Club.

‘When you can’t find the sunshine be the sunshine.’

There certainly wasn’t any sunshine at Adelaide Oval on Saturday, when 44 of our students from

Reception to Year 7 played half time at the Crows vs West Coast match. Our Auskick and Little League students acknowledged how fortunate they were to be asked to play. The rain didn’t dampen their spirits at all!

On Saturday I went to the Adelaide Oval for Auskick to play a fun football game. I was in the Red team. We ran onto the field to play. My favourite part was scoring lots of goals. It was a fun day. - Izabel Year 2Wow, it was cool and scary playing in front of so many people. I was in the Red team. - Sophie Year 1We had fun and I was really excited and I liked the different teams. - Ellie S Year 1Football was fantastic. It was fun playing on the oval and experiencing something special. - Lysha Year 5I loved playing on the Adelaide Oval because my whole family were there watching me.

- Caydence Year 4The atmosphere was exciting, loud and incredible. The crowds roared. We played hard. We never thought we would have this opportunity to play on the amazing Adelaide Oval.

- Millie J + Annemarie Year 6We were very grateful to our parent helpers who assisted each of the groups. They too looked like they were enjoying every minute of being on the oval. Thankyou to Tim Histed, Jade Saunders, David Sykes, Loriana Ciccozzi, Pas Foti, Phong Huynh, Will Mackay and Peter Merrit.

Student Leadership opportunityOn the 24th of May, eight students from Year 6: Charlotte, Alyssa, Minh, Jasmine, Anita, Lynn, Annabel and Tina went to St Michael’s Primary School to learn how to be a good leader. We learnt how to set up efficient games, socialize with younger students, be a role model to others, and more. We were socializing with other schools while learning different ways to change games at the same time. Overall, we had a productive day and by the end of it, we had learnt the qualities and skills needed to lead our peers in a positive and cooperative way.

Jasmine, Alyssa and Minh

Student Engagement: This year we have entered two teams in the da Vinci Decathlon, which is held at St Peter’s Girls’ School on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. The Year 6 team are: Victoria Mackay, Tina Le, Alyssa Tran, Ines Marcon, Ai-Vy Truong, Lucy McPeake, Lyana Huynh and Maria Mathews. The Year 7 team are: An Do, Willow Rann, Alexandra Calica-Chavez, Grace Bui, Olivia Jensen, Alana Nguyen, Elena Chau and Nadia Eiffe. The girls have been in training for this very challenging competition and we would like to thank the following teachers: Mrs Maycock, Ms Osborne, Mrs Baker and Mrs Fiona Greig for their assistance during familiarisation sessions.

Assembly: The Reception Class tried very hard and enjoyed the experience of hosting this week’s Assembly. We thank the parents who were able to attend.

Parent Engagement: Last Friday morning our Reception Class held a special liturgy for their mothers. They were very reverent and focused and the mums were then treated to a mini makeover in the classroom afterwards. It was wonderful to see so many mums and grandmas attending.

Knockout Football CarnivalLast Monday a group of Year 8-12 girls travelled to Pulteney Grammar oval to participate in a Knockout footy carnival. We won our first game convincingly against St Aloysius College and lost our second match to Pulteney Grammar, who were a very strong team. Everyone participated, put in an amazing effort and had fun, as for some it was the first time playing football. We can’t wait to do this again next year!

parents and friends annual CHOCOLATE DRIVE

It’s that time of year again. The nights are longer, the evenings colder, and it’s the perfect time

to snuggle up in front of a movie with some yummy chocolates to devour!

Yes, it’s the Parents and Friends’ Annual Chocolate Drive, and we need your support.

Each family is asked to sell one box of chocolates which will be sent home with your oldest daughter towards the end of this term.

Each box weighs approximately 2kgs. The money should be returned in Week 1 of Term 3 (along with any unsold chocolates - if any - hopefully not). Extra boxes will then be made available, should you be able to sell more chocolates through your family/friends/place of work. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.

If your family prefers not to be involved in this fundraiser by selling chocolates, please ensure you return the slip below. The Parents & Friends Association ask that you consider making a donation in lieu of your participation. As a guide, the funds raised for the school by each box sold is approximately $24.

Thanks so much for helping to make this a successful fundraiser once again for the school. Any questions or queries, please contact the school office.

Many thanksPhillipa Sharpe, 2019 Chocolate Drive Coordinator
