* Hymn “Come Ye Thankful People Come” No. 694

* Prayer of Confession Lay ReaderEvery day is a cause for celebration, Lord, but we tend to think that we can only celebrate on certain holidays. Each day is a reason to offer you thanks and praise, but we have left the offering of thanksgiving to one day each November. You give us so much, and we forget to express gratitude. You have entrusted us with many gifts, and we have failed to share what we have with others. Forgive us, Lord. Help us to express thanksgiving with each word and action. Amen.

Call: God hears our confession and longs to redeem us. We are always offered another chance to get things right. Accept this

*Please stand if you are able

NEXT SUNDAY IN WORSHIP1st Sunday of Advent, November 29, 2015

Scripture: Isaiah 7.10-16Sermon: “Expect a Miracle”

The picture that you have of God has everything to do with the shaping of your faith and values. If your picture of God is distorted, your life perspective will be skewed. The real meaning of Christmas gets lost in the shopping, spending, escalating debt, making exhausting preparations, and building stacks of gifts that are not needed or will not be used. In the chaos of the holiday season, we miss the true gift of Immanuel, God with us. The power of Immanuel is the power to create change in the world through God’s action in your life.

26th Sunday after PentecostVale Announcements ~ November 22, 2015

WELCOME VISITORS! WE’RE GLAD YOU’RE HERE!

Whether you are new to the area or a long-time resident, we warmly welcome you to our community of faith at Vale Church!

If you are visiting for the first time, we invite you to fill out a visitor card located in your pew—and please join us after the 8:30am and 10:00am services for coffee and snacks. We look forward to meeting you!

Please also be sure to pick up a Vale Welcome Bag, which contains more information about our church. The bags are available at the entrance to the Main Sanctuary and outside the Church Office.

For families with children … at the 10am service, after the Children’s Moment, children ages 3 through Grade 12 are welcome to attend Sunday School. You may pick them up after the service. Nursery care is available for infants and toddlers during both services.

Vale UMC is proud to be recognized as a Safe Haven congregation. If you suspect signs of human trafficking, please call 888.373.7888 or text 233733.

Grocery Dollars – The profit from the grocery dollars for November will support Vale Preschool. The preschool is an outreach ministry of the congregation to our local community.

Resource FairAre you looking for faith-filled

videos and books that yourchildren will love?

Stop by the Fellowship Hall Display TableTODAY between 9:30 AM and Noon

to browse or purchase for your family.

Remember, books make wonderful gifts!

AlterNatives -- Vale also will be hosting AlterNatives, which will be displaying an array of fair trade handicrafts that make great Christmas gifts. You can peruse the beautiful items for sale before or after the Thanksgiving service.

Vale UMC Preschool is now taking registrations for the 2015-16 school year. We are very blessed to have highly qualified teachers with many years of classroom experience on our staff. Our very low teacher student ratio and small maximum student registration makes our school quite unique. We have Chapel with the Pastor, Movement and Music classes twice each month. A visit prior to registration is recommended for all prospective families. For more information about our church’s preschool offerings, contact Ruth Anne Luckenbaugh at [email protected] or 703-400-1577.

Thanksgiving Bags – Help Local Missions

Thanksgiving Bags for our local missions were given out to the congregation during both services last Sunday. Filled bags should be returned TODAY, for same day distribution in the community.

The Interfaith Community Thanksgiving Worship Service will take place on Tuesday, November 24th at 7:30 pm (prelude, featuring harp and bells, begins at 7:15 pm). It is hosted by Emmanuel Lutheran Church, at 2589 Chain Bridge Road, Vienna, Virginia 22181.

A number of clergy will participate at the service as well as choirs from various congregations.

Symbols of gratitude related to Thanksgiving will be shared by Lay Persons, including Tom Feeney from Vale.

An offering will be collected to help support The Lamb Center and Committee for Healing Others (CHO).

For additional information, call the Shepherd’s Center at 703-281-0538.

Please help us get the Church and sanctuary ready for the Advent season!  The Vale Worship Team is inviting you to help decorate the sanctuary for the Advent season through your purchase of wreaths and roping in honor of or in memory of loved ones.  Please see Dorothy Arbiter, Kim Sigle, or Lisa Martin if you would like to participate.

The Vale Christmas Trees Are Coming! (Sale Starts Nov 28)

Starting on Saturday, Nov. 28 (right after Thanksgiving), Vale Church's Christmas Tree Sale will be in full swing selling trees and wreaths, and raising funds to reach our goal of 50,000 meals for Stop Hunger Now. All tree proceeds go to this cause, which provides nutritious meals to people in need across the world.

We'll have three types of freshly-cut trees (Fraser Fir, Canaan Fir and Douglas Fir) in many sizes, including very large trees (10 feet or higher) and some "tabletop" trees, plus some short (5 to 6 feet high) trees. Enjoy free cookies and cider while you scout for the perfect tree. You can also buy pine roping for decorating, or a nice new Christmas tree stand.

Feel like donating cider or cookies? You can drop off your items in the church kitchen and mark it "Christmas Tree Sale" (no items with nuts, please).

And if you are able to help sell trees, we need MANY volunteers throughout the month to keep the tree sale going. Please visit our ONLINE VOLUNTEER SIGN UP to select your volunteer date(s) and time(s)—and thank you in advance for your support!

UMM Holiday Wreath Sale

We successfully completed the wreaths-by-mail program on November 15th. We want to thank the congregation for purchasing 101 wreaths and for supporting the United Methodist Men.

We will be selling three sizes of undecorated wreaths at the Christmas tree stand during December. Please stop by.

Vale Kicks Off the Holidays with "Songs of the

Season" Celebration (Dec 5)

On Saturday, December 5, starting at 1pm, we'll be holding our second annual "Sounds of the Season" musical celebration.

The event will be held outdoors, weather permitting, and include a Christmas carol singalong with our church choir, a flute choir performance, a staged reading of excerpts of the Charles Dickens classic "A Christmas Carol," and a holiday musical revue from the wonderful a cappella singing group, the Madison Madrigals, from James Madison High School in Vienna. Plus we'll have crafts and activities for kids who aren't watching the show--and free hot dogs, popcorn, hot cider and candy canes for everyone!

And of course, on your way out, stop by Vale's tree sale for that perfect Christmas tree or wreath to decorate your home!
