UHS Teachers give back
Habitat for Humanity GTA
On Saturday, April 16th, 19 teachers (and one guest) from Unionville High School adopted a
day to help build homes for families in need. Habitat for Humanity (HFH) mission is "To mobi-
lize volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promoting home-
ownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty."
The UHS teachers were from various departments and included a few former (retired) ones as
well. The location of the build was on McLevin Ave. in Scarborough. Other than volunteer-
ing their skills and time on a Saturday, they also raised over $2000.00 in fundraising for HFH in-
cluding their own personal donations. It was nice to see white board markers replaced by
hammers, drills, and other tools in the hands of our teachers. In typical fashion, the close ca-
maraderie and wonderful team spirit made the day delightful as well as the actual fashion of
wearing brightly coloured hard hats, neon coloured safety vests, and work gloves.
The HFH site supervisor stated that we were the best group of volunteers they had seen in a
long time. He also complemented our team for building quickly, efficiently, and with such a
high degree of quality so much that they were trying to create/find projects for us to work on
as we completed projects early.
The teachers included:
Paul Poulsson
Rob Cook
Jim Kotsopoulos
Terry Wollenzien
Bernie Wollenzien
Lyn Ogilvy
Wesley Guldemond
David Hunt
Rob Ricci
Mike Johnston
Angelo Papa
Kevin McCaffrey
Maggie Ho
Donna McAdam
Carl Richard

Bravo to these UHS teachers for taking on such an endeavor.
