FAMILIES IN ACTION

Families in Action provides the kind and generous members of our parish community with local opportunities to assist our neighbors in need, by volunteering their time or donating needed items. People of all ages are welcome to g e t i n vo l v ed by v i s i t i n g h t t p : / /www.signupgenius.com/go/4090e4faea96-Community Service hours are also available. Don’t Come Empty Handed! Each month we will be collecting an essential item, which cannot be purchased with food stamps, to support Act in Faith’s Community Cupboard in West Chester. This month please bring donations of TOOTHPASTE-any type or size- to church with you. Additionally, donations of (fresh or frozen) turkeys, size 3-5 diapers, new or used strollers, and children’s books are being accepted. Please see website for more information and other ways to volunteer your time. “In places such as this we are all confirmed in

the faith; each one is helped in his or her belief,

because we see the faith visibly expressed in

practical acts of charity. We see how faith brings

light and hope in situations of grave hardship;

we observe how faith is rekindled in hearts

touched by the Spirit of Jesus who said,

“Whoever receives one such child in my name

receives me” (Mk 9:37). This faith, working

through charity, dislodges the mountains of

indifference, of disbelief and of apathy, and

opens hands and hearts to work for what is good

and share this experience. Through humble

gestures and simple acts of service to the least

among us, the Good News that Jesus is risen and

lives among us is proclaimed.”—Pope Francis

St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish School

“Above The Cut” St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish School is very proud to announce the results of the Terra Nova Test scores. Terra Nova is a series of standardized achievement tests used throughout the United States. Published by CTB/McGraw Hill, it is a tool designed to assess student achievement, compared with national norms. The cut number is the percentiles that indicate a score in the top 15% of schools in the nation. This test was administered to St. Max students in grades three through seven. It is no surprise that St. Max was once again well “above the cut” in both reading and math. Great work by students and faculty of St. Max School! Math Reading

State Wide Art Contest Winner Fifth grade student Bella Walls was a big winner in the Office of the Attorney General’s Drug-Free Calendar Contest. Bella’s original inspirational art and slogan will be featured in the 2016 calendar for the month of December. The contest was open to fifth graders in the state of Pennsylvania. Bella and her family are invited to Harrisburg for a luncheon and award ceremony. Bella’s art was submitted through St. Max School. HEALTH SEMINAR Life Affirming Choices and End of Life Decision Making

Deacon John Donnelly of the Diocesan Office for Life and Family will present a seminar regarding health care decisions. Today there are many options available to ease human suffering and prolong life. There are also many choices that do not embrace the Christian vision of the human person. And so, health care decisions have become more difficult and heart-wrenching to make.

This two-hour seminar will highlight some of the issues in health care that are most often confusing to the average person and define them in light of Catholic moral teaching. Learn the true purpose of Advanced Care Directives and Do Not Resuscitate Orders. Learn how to write a Living Will that will truly protect you and your wishes and how to avoid common pitfalls. Come to listen, learn and ask your own questions. Open to the community.

Eucharistic Adoration: Healing For The Soul

Are you looking for a way to enrich your spiritual life and grow closer to Jesus? We have

a great opportunity every Tuesday to spend some time with Jesus during Eucharistic Adoration. Members of a wonderful group of people have each committed to being there for a particular hour between 9 am and 7 pm so Jesus is never left alone. Many others are able to come in for briefer visits. Any one of any age is always welcome. Just drop in. Some people just sit there quietly with Jesus; some pray the rosary or other prayers; some read spiritual books. There are no requirements or expectations. Try it! We’d like to have at least two people committed to each hour; we also need to compile a list of people who are willing to be called upon as substitutes when the regular adorers are unable to be there. If you would like to participate in this important ministry, let us know. We have a particular need for the 9 to 10 am and 5 to 6 pm hours, but additional people are welcome at any hour. To volunteer for a regular hour or to be placed on the sub list, please provide your name and contact information to Anne Chavez at [email protected] or 610-793-2154 or call the rectory to volunteer. "The time you spend with Jesus in the Blessed

Sacrament is the best time you will spend on earth.

Each moment that you spend with Jesus will deepen

your union with Him and make your soul

everlastingly more glorious and beautiful in Heaven,

and will help bring about everlasting peace on earth."

(Mother Teresa)
