BULLETIN Term 4 Week 1 Friday 18 October 2019
School Rules
Flexing like a Russian gymnast, rules are amazing things.
They whisper … ‘Defect … Defect … come over to the side of non-
conformity and don’t be told what to do…’
Rules are made to be broken, aren’t they? (Who said we can’t have
a camp fire in April? That rule is no match for us - let’s throw some
light onto common sense....)
But some rules really are crazy, aren’t they? (Did you know that it is
still a law in Australia that only a licensed electrician is allowed to
change a light bulb? And that Taxis’ in Queensland are still legally
required to carry a bale of hay in the boot!)
As the years have gone on though, I have learnt that thumbing your
nose at some rules can leave you with a sore thumb, nose, wallet
and sense of pride.
Over the first few weeks of this term we will be considering the
10 Commandments and what a gift they are (to us.)
Like the bars at ‘Bumper
Bowling’, that stop us from
running into the gutter, the
10 Commandments have stood
the test of time and have been an
invaluable gift to God’s people as
we aim to live in relationship with
him and each other.
How we use them, is up to us and how we want to roll through life.
Daryl

Welcome back to Term 4! We hope you have all had a refreshing break
and are all set to finish off a year of learning.
2020 PLANNING CLASS PLACEMENTS
• We welcome input from families around class
placement for 2020 and we ask that this is passed
on by email to [email protected] by Friday the
1st of November (week 3). Generally this input will
be around learning needs and information that will
help us place students for maximum success. We ask that families refrain from
‘requesting teachers’ especially as teaching staff can (and will) change due to either
leaving our school or changing grades – both of which can happen very late in the
year as we respond to the context and circumstances that happen.
• If you are not returning to Immanuel in 2020 (other than moving into a secondary
school) please be reminded that a terms notice is required.
POTENTIAL BUS SERVICE FOR IMMANUEL 2020
• As noted in previous Newsletters we are looking at staring a bus run for students to /
from school. We need to gather names and addresses to develop the service to start
in 2020. Any responses need to be returned by Monday 21 October.
MUSIC TUITION 2020
• We have several music tutors who come to Immanuel each week
and take students for one on one instrument lessons or singing
lessons.
• For example drums with Zed, guitar with Cameron, Piano or Flute
with Karen, Singing with Dallas, Violin with Roger.
• Please register your child’s interest for private music tuition in 2020,
by completing a form from the office or download off the website
and return it to Mr Hueppauff (Music teacher) or via the office.
• It is very exciting to witness a wonderful buzz around the school and a musical culture
continuing to florish and grow.
UNIFORM
• In recent surveys there has been feedback around uniform and student adherence
to the policy.
• We understand that there are times when students will need to be in a variation from
the set policy, but for these times we ask that parents/caregivers supply a note of
explanation. For some students it’s around a medical conditions or at times it can be
simply because a pair of shoes have broken and need replacing (etc).
• However, we are asking families to do their best to support the policy, but when
occasions arise that there needs to be a breach, please supply a note of
explanation.
SCHOOL DAY / PUNCTUALITY
• The school day begins at 8.50am. Parents are reminded that it is
their responsibility to ensure that their child/ren arrive at school in
plenty of time to be well enough organised so they are INSIDE their
classroom at 8:50am. Students who arrive after 8.50am are
considered late and need to be signed in at the office by the
parent / caregiver. If your child is absent please ensure you advise
the school by 9.30am (via phone or email)
• The school day ends at 3.25pm so children are expected to be at school until this
time. If you need to pick up early a note to your teacher in the morning is really
helpful. Phone calls to the office are welcome, although can be delayed if other
priorities come along. Please report to the school office and sign your child out whilst
your child is called to the office.
• Late arrivals and early departure times will be calculated as minutes missed and
noted on Semester 2 reports, along with the number of full absent days.
END OF 2019 YEAR ARRANGEMENTS
• Our last school day for 2018 will be on Wednesday 11 December with our End of Year
and Graduation Service at 2pm.
• Celebration Evening for Yr 6’s will be on the Thursday evening 12 December.
The evening will be for parents (and caregivers) and students (only) and will involve a
celebration dinner. • Thursday 12 and Friday 13 December will be student free days. Igosh will be starting the
school holiday care program from Thursday 12 December.
OCTOBER IS NATIONAL DYSLEXIA AWARENESS MONTH
• Immanuel is raising awareness about Dyslexia
and involving all students and families.
• Today Friday 18 October students were able to
wear a splash of red and bring a gold coin
donation. Zooper Doopers were on sale after school too.
• Funds raised will go to purchasing new resources for our Dyslexic students and we will
also donate some to Dyslexia SA to help with their work
• Don’t miss out on the Guess the Red Lollies in the jar competition at 50c / guess

THE PRIMARY YEARS PROGRAM Year 1
Central Idea:
The things people do and use change over time
Lines of Inquiry
Changes in technology
Changes in people’s lives
Impact of change
Our Year 1 classes have had a big week. On Wednesday and Thursday night they
had their respective class sleepover at school. This was followed up with an
excursion the next day. They visited the Gawler Museum to look at some of the
items people used to use and some of the ways people used to live in our local
area.
They then took the Immanuel Bus onto the Barossa to the Tanunda Kegel Club and
enjoyed learning to play a game of Kegel bowling.
Page 7
THE PRIMARY YEARS PROGRAM Year 2
Central Idea:
Ecosystems consist of interdependent organisms
Lines of Inquiry:
• How plants grow and change
• The ways plants and animals depend on each other to survive
• Our responsibility to care for living things
Our Year 2s have started this term by looking at plants, their structure and their
development. They have been watching seeds germinate, they have been growing
plants in the greenhouse and they have conducted some experiments to look at how
different parts of a plant function.
Year 3
Central Idea:
Understanding the properties of heat allows people to use it in different ways
Lines of Inquiry:
• Ways heat is produced
• Changes caused by heat
• Challenges with using, storing and transferring heat
The Year 3 classes have been taking part in some experiments to look at heat and
how it behaves. They inquired into what happens when warm water and cold water
are mixed.
Year 5
Central Idea:
We use our imagination to express ourselves creatively
Lines of Inquiry:
• The different ways people use imagination to create
• Artistic forms and techniques
• Critiquing and reflecting on art
In Year 5 students have looked into the question: What is art? They been experimenting with
different art forms and different styles and responding to different art works. This week they
created some mandalas using natural materials they gathered from around the school yard.
You can see some more of our Year 5 Art Work next week.
They will be setting up an Exhibition in Taikondi from Monday to Wednesday.
Thanks Mr Humphreys for creating this new
space for Immanuel students to play in.
