GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH(Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod)
LITTLE ROCK, ARKANSASAugust 3, 2014
THE EIGHTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST
PRAYER UPON ENTERING CHURCH
Almighty and merciful God and Father, You shower Your blessings upon me as You give tome all that I need for this body and life. You further invite me to see Jesus as the Bread of Life. InHim You give me pardon and peace through the forgiveness of sins which leads to life everlasting. In
this I can taste and see how truly good You are. Keep me steadfast in this faith until that day when Ipartake of Your eternal banquet prepared in heaven for all believers. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
WELCOME
Welcome to Grace! We thank you for being here this morning and we especially wish tothank those who are visiting for joining with us this morning. We gather here in this place to bespiritually fed by the Word of God which gives us life and sustains us to life everlasting. Jesus is the
very Bread of Life. Through Word and Sacrament we receive Jesus and His work on our behalf as afree gift. This is the very truth of the Gospel which is Gods power to salvation. If you are not amember of Grace and wish to learn more about our teachings as drawn from Gods Word please speakwith our Pastor. We are glad you are here and we invite you to come and worship with us again.
We ask that everyone fill out an attendance registration card found at each pew and return itto an Usher as the Offering is collected. Children are welcome in our Service and will be invited tocome forward for a Childrens Message. Parents may accompany them. Restrooms are located on the
lower level of this building or across the bridge on this floor level before entering the fellowship hall.A nursery for infants and toddlers is located downstairs for anyone who has need.
HOLY COMMUNION
Holy Communion will be celebrated in the 10:45 Service today. In this sacrament we receiveChrists very body and blood for the forgiveness of sins. Those who are not members of Grace areasked to speak with our Pastor before partaking of this sacrament so that the unity of faith might beestablished. Thank you for honoring this request.
AS WE GATHERA familiar story of the miraculous power of Jesus is found in our Gospel reading for today.
This story from Jesus ministry, along with the account of His resurrection, is found in each of thefour Gospel accounts. In the Old Testament reading for today God, through the prophet Isaiah, invitesone and all to come to Him to eat and to drink without cost, as if to a free banquet. St. Paul in theEpistle reading laments that many of his fellow Jews have not responded to the invitation, even though
they have received blessings throughout history. When Jesus feeds the 5,000 families, it is a tangiblereminder of the heavenly banquet to which we are invited. We cannot be content that we are included,though, for at the end of the reading from Isaiah, the Lord lifts our eyes to look toward those who donot yet know the promises of God made to Israel and fulfilled in Jesus and He seeks to use us to helpothers recognize Jesus as the very Bread of life and to eat what He gives and thereby be satisfied.

The reading of the Holy Gospel.
P This is the Gospel of the Lord.C Praise to You, O Christ.
Apostles' Creed (8:15)
C I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day He rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Christian Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
Nicene Creed (10:45)
C I believe in one God,
the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earthand of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the only-begotten Son of God,
begotten of His Father before all worlds,
God of God, Light of Light,
very God of very God,
begotten, not made,being of one substance with the Father,
by whom all things were made;

who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven
and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary
and was made man;
and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate.
He suffered and was buried.And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures
and ascended into heaven
and sits at the right hand of the Father.
And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead,
whose kingdom will have no end.
And I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord and giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified,
who spoke by the prophets.
And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church,
I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins,
and I look for the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen

P The Lord be with you.C And also with you.
P Lift up your hearts.C We lift them to the Lord.
P Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.C It is right to give Him thanks and praise.
P It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanksto You, O Lord, holy Father, almighty and everlasting God, for the countless blessingsYou so freely bestow on us and all creation. Above all, we give thanks for Your
boundless love shown to us when You sent Your only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ, intoour flesh and laid on Him our sin, giving Him into death that we might not die eternally.Because He is now risen from the dead and lives and reigns to all eternity, all who
believe in Him will overcome sin and death and will rise again to new life. Thereforewith angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnifyYour glorious name, evermore praising You and saying:

Prayer of Thanksgiving
P Blessed are You, O Lord our God, king of all creation, for You have had mercy on us andgiven Your only-begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have
eternal life.In Your righteous judgment You condemned the sin of Adam and Eve, who ate theforbidden fruit, and You justly barred them and all their children from the tree of life.Yet, in Your great mercy, You promised salvation by a second Adam, Your Son, JesusChrist, our Lord, and made His cross a life-giving tree for all who trust in Him.
We give You thanks for the redemption You have prepared for us through Jesus Christ.
Grant us Your Holy Spirit that we may faithfully eat and drink of the fruits of His crossand receive the blessings of forgiveness, life, and salvation that come to us in His bodyand blood.
Hear us as we pray in His name and as He has taught us:
Lord's Prayer Matthew 6:913
C Our Father who art in heaven,hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth
as it is in heaven;
give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive thosewho trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom
and the power and the glory
forever and ever. Amen
The Words of Our Lord
P Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He hadgiven thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: Take, eat; this is My T
body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me.
P In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, Hegave it to them, saying: Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My T
blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it,in remembrance of Me.
