“If ‘Plan A’ didn’t work the alphabet has another 25 letters. Keep calm and

think of other solutions.”Fete We are very excited in the Primary School about the upcoming Fete. The weather will hopefully be promising and we are busily setting up our areas for the various stall holders. We look forward to seeing you there. The Classic Treasures Stall are grateful for the donations. They would still like some more toys so it is not too late for a very quick clean out of the toy cupboard. Place them in the basket outside my office. Please remember that it is a late start on Monday morning.

Move up DayWe all enjoy ‘Move Up Day’. This year our Reception to Year 6s classes will move up on the 11th of November. Students will move to their 2017 class after the 8:30 bell until recess. They will quickly unpack and move to their next year level and will need to be ready to start the day at 8:50am.

Parent EngagementSeveral parents were unable to come to the ‘Art in the Primary School’ meeting on Friday morning, due to work commitments. If you want to help with some artwork for outside areas, give me a call or pop into the office and we would love to add you to the list. The weather is warming up and we are keen to get started.

Traffic Management We are currently responding to an Adelaide City Council Traffic Survey and will express our concern regarding the practicalities of parking in Barnard Street and the need for a longer ‘Kiss and Drop’ area on Barnard Street to help for a safe and smooth student exit.

Spring Poetry Competition On Saturday the 29th of October, 5 of our primary school students, Molly Copeland, Willow Rann, Emma Smith, Morgan Smith, Eliza Donnellan and Magdalene Dinos are finalists in the Spring Poetry Competition and will attend the launch of the Poetry Festival.

Important EventsLoud Shirt Day is Thursday the 3rd November. You should have received a letter outlining the day. The Reception and Year 3 classes will decorate a scarecrow for the garden and all classes will be involved in a range of activities that help support an understanding of hearing impairment.

Twilight Assembly is Week 6, Tuesday 22nd November - note to follow

What’s happening in Year 3…Today we visited Helping Hand Residential Aged Care Facility for the second time. Due to the excursion being on the “worst storm in 50 years” day last term, we had to postpone our visit to this term. Today we shared our work about the way life has changed over the years or stayed the same. After our term 3 interviews, we used the information they had given us to create a brochure based on them and also on the information they gave us about Change and Continuity. We will also visit on two more occasions this term to play games with our residents and to also do an art and craft activity with them. We’ve just finished our unit about Pirates and enjoyed Pirate Day at the end of last term, when we all took on a pirate name and had fun in our ‘classroom ship’ for the day.

I liked making the ship in the bottle and eating the cupcakes at recess. – Ella Brave Beardless BuccaneerI loved the fish and chips and for the whole day we had no work! – IsabellaI liked dressing up. – AlyssaI loved the treasure hunt and the food and it was fun the whole day. – Annabel I loved Pirate Day so much I couldn’t stop talking about it. – Lyana

Did you know that...• Pirates wore earrings because they thought it

would improve their eyesight• Some women pirates were extremely powerful• A pirate is a robber of the sea• Captain Blackbeard’s real name was Edward

Teach (he was the most feared pirate of all)• There are modern day pirates• Buccaneers used a special kind of sword called

a cutlass.• The Year Threes earn pirate coins (called

doubloons) for good work and good behaviour and can trade these in for prizes!

National Youth Science Forum Orientation DayThe National Youth Science Forum is a two week stay in Canberra to experience the cutting edge of research and development in our chosen STEM area. On the 18th of September, following our selection, we attended the NYSF Orientation Day. We had the pleasure of listening to various physicists and attendees of previous Forums so we could be inspired and ask as many questions as possible. 32 lucky students who have interests in STEM, including ourselves, from all around SA, introduced themselves and we started upon our journey to the NYSF. This event made the January sessions one step closer and we cannot wait!

ANCQ ResultsThe Australian National Chemistry Quiz is a unique education activity that provides a major focus for secondary school students on the relevance of chemistry in an exciting and stimulating way.

In July, 33 students across Year 11 participated in the 2016 Quiz. We congratulate our Credit and Distinction winners here.

ADVANCED NOTICE: Towards the end of term, some choices on the Tuckshop Menu - especially drinks - will be out of stock. When placing orders, it may be a good idea to list a second preference.
