Greater Tzaneen Municipality’s dream of turning Tzaneen into a second city in Lim-popo by the year 2030 seems to be litt le more than a dream — which is fast becoming a nightmare. Tzaneen is facing yet another moratorium on growth, since the water puri-fi cation plants and sewerage systems in Tza-neen’s CBD, NkowaNkowa ánd Lenyenye are running at full capacity and no further growth can be allowed.

The Bulletin has been warning about the looming crisis for at least fi ve years. In the past twenty years nothing has been done to upgrade the systems and logic told us that the town couldn’t keep on growing while nothing is being done about the plants’ and systems’ expansion and maintenance.

According to a source within the GTM, the sewerage systems in town, Lenyenye and NkowaNkowa are also gett ing old and unable to cope with the high demand, and therefore needs to be upgraded.

The source also said during a special coun-cil meeting held recently it was decided that the three water purifi cation plants and sew-erage systems need to be expanded. How it will be fi nanced remains to be seen, since it will cost many millions to rectify the prob-lem. There is no money in the GTM’s budget for this to be done, especially aft er this year’s exorbitant salary increases.

GTM mayor Dikeledi Mmetle and Mopani District mayor Joshua Matlou previously in-dicated that they would like to see Tzaneen becoming the second city in Limpopo in the year 2030.

Meanwhile businesses operating in Tza-neen are concerned that another moratorium would result in the town experiencing yet another growth setback. They also warned that new investors will be reluctant to come to Tzaneen.

Water crisis

imminent

A government project of more than R7 million was erected outside Tzaneen several months ago to accommodate a piggery, but there is still not a pig in sight. However, the lights of the extensive buildings are switched on every night for no apparent reason.

The Sisimuka Piggery is on Portion 22 Broederstroomdrift, approximately fifteen kilometers from Tzaneen. It belongs to Ms Angela Ndala, who also farms with organic fresh produce.

The project was developed and supported by the Limpopo Department of Agriculture earlier this year. Ndala

said she is still preparing for the piggery. The reason why the lights are burning each night is to prevent burglaries, as valuable property is being kept in the buildings.

According to Ndlala thieves struck more than once before and she had huge losses.

“When the lights are on, my caretakers can see if there is any suspect movement inside the buildings.”

She stays in Tzaneen, but plans to sell her house and move to the farm permanently, once the pig farming gets started. She couldn’t say when, though.

Pigs, lights & taxesQuestions arose over the waste of electricty at a piggery with no pigs where lights are left on the whole night without apparent purpose. You and I are paying for this waste. We investigate to bring you the facts.

Amanda Strydom Stop street please! Where? Anywhere!

voordat iemand gaan besef hoe gevaarlik daai punt is.

Amanda Strydom Jaques laat ek nou net my kant skoon kry.

Ek weet nie dus of daarom vra ek.

Mario Ferreira AgreedMarie Helm Ek stem saam! Die taxi’s stop op die ryvlak! Baie gevaarlikBernard Nel Hier kom lang trane. Gelukkig is Wisani se nuwe kantoor nou naby.Melani Deysel Lamprecht En die beste van als is, dit word n shopping mall ook daarHoppie Herbert leave the hikers alone nd tell this companies in tzaneen to pay their workers better

salaries then they will use taxis.Thea Gerber Ai, ai, Hoppie Herbert. It is the taxis that stop on the road in front of Spur.

Vir die Saterdag se wawerk, kontak Dawid Grobbelaar by 083 306 0809 of 015 307 4048.

Vir Bloedrivier, trek deelname en Gelofte-fees kontak Oom Boet-man Duminy by 083 659 3843 of Frans Schutte by 083 375 5198.

Hy was vir sewe jaar onderwyser in tegniese vakke by Ben Vor-ster, waarna hy vyf jaar by Letaba Skool was, voordat hy en sy vrou (Louise) Thabaletsi Tombstones in 1997 begin het.

Du Preez was vir sowat twin-tig jaar aktief be-trokke by uithouritte waar hy verskeie titels verower het.

By hom is mnr Kiewiet Ecroignard, Lannie se werkswinkelbestuurder.

Nuwe veiligheidsplan teen misdaad ingespan

beskikking.

Sektor 8: Kapt JF Shingange by 082 729 1208Sektor 7: A/o QM Khoza by 082 729 1262Vispol: Kol Mahlaoale by 082 729 1304Brig Dianah Mashele by 082 565 8065Aanklagkantoor: 015 306 2129 of 015 306 2133

Esegiël handhaaf hierdie afstand deurgaans: hy bly mens, of eintlik: mensekind, en God bly vir hom heilig: “Here my God.”

Help assebliefL Grobbelaar, Posbus 2323, Tzaneen; 073 238 1616/015 307 4048 skryf: Asseblief!

Ongelukkig is daar nou vyf van my kappies weg.

Asseblief! Kontak my as daar iemand is wat lig kan werp

Tradisioneel vs charimaties, lyk my is die groot twispunt.

Hy operate nie so nie, glo my.

Mag almal wat hierdie lees, in vrede aanbid.

Trevor Hunter (31) who saw an opportunity in the Premier Park area in Tzaneen, is the owner of Marana Liquor Store — which he built up from scratch.

Trevor is originally from Johannesburg where he grew up and had his fi rst busi-ness, Winston’s Pub & Grill. From a young age Trevor was not too fond of school and always knew he wanted to make big bucks. When he fi nished matric he did a one year diploma in Computer Engineering through Varsity College. Like he said: “I don’t like studying too much and it’s not my thing”, so a one year diploma was as good as it was going to get from an academic perspective.

During the fi ve years in Johannesburg as a Pub & Grill owner he and a certain waitress there got bett er acquainted… they started dating and one fi ne weekend came to vis-it her folks in Tzaneen. Trevor enjoyed the beauty of Tzaneen so much that he decided it was time to leave the big city for some-thing more cosy. “It was quite a big step”, says Trevor. He sold the Pub & Grill, packed up and left .

He moved to Tzaneen in 2007. “A complete

lifestyle change”, he added. Typically Tre-vor, with a head for business, he opened his second pub & grill, Hunters, just a couple of months aft er moving to Tzaneen. Since it was a ballgame he very well knew how to play, it worked out well, but he admits that the working hours were tough. Always up for a new business venture Trevor sold Hunters Pub & Grill a year later and tried a new line of business.

In 2008 he opened Marana Liquor Store. For the fi rst three years business was slow, but as the years went by it surely picked up. Trevor saw another opportunity in 2010 and opened a Laundromat right next to Marana Liquor Store.

Trevor and Monique (“the waitress”) got married in 2009 on the Vaal River and now has two beautiful children: Courtney who is two and a half years old and the newest addition to the family, Jason, who is a mere four months old. Defi nitely no more chil-dren, according to Trevor. “Two is a good number”, he says.

He believes he is an entrepreneur by heart. One who is passionate about business and

very oft en brainstorms about new ideas. What is his inspiration? “I wanted to make money from day one,” he answers without hesitation.

The best parts of a typical workday for Tre-vor are when he hits target and the interac-tion with customers. “I can social at work”, he laughs. Trevor refers to his customers as very loyal; and some have become very good friends too.

The daily duties at the store are run as a one man band. He does everything; clean-ing, dusting, mopping the fl oors, stock-taking, helping the customers etc. He is very grateful to his mom, Nicky, and wife, Monique, who give a helping hand every other day and over weekends.

There is no such thing as a “worst” part of his job, but the fact that it is labour intensive is the least fun, Trevor says.

In his free time (Sundays) he enjoys spend-ing time with his family, socialising with his friends and being outdoors — since he is in-doors from Monday to Saturday.

He enjoys going to the gym and can easi-ly feel there is something missing in his life

when he skips a gym session, he says.According to Trevor the best ways to deal

with diffi cult customers are to keep them calm and take the edge off by cracking a joke.

The role model in Trevor’s life is his grand-father, Dennis: with a good business mind and at the age of 85 years still travelling the world. “There isn’t a country that he hasn’t been to”, Trevor carries on and states that he would like to also travel more, not on business but for pleasure. Furthermore he thinks that 50 years of age is a good time to retire and do all the travelling. “I don’t want to work for the rest of my life, but the harder you work the luckier you get.”

Trevor admits that he can be short tem-pered, but most of the time he enjoys joking and laughing. He is also a perfectionist and has a great sense of humour, says his mom.

He fi rmly believes that the key to success lies in self-motivation and discipline.

Trevor ends our conversation with, “If your ship doesn’t come, swim out and fetch it” — before he “swims” to the back to help another customer with a heavy load.

“The harder you work the luckier you get”

Inteendeel!

‘Tja, Wallis is amper soos daai sepie van destyds, “Dallas”,

waar balle alles is.

……………………………………………….

“The secret of success is to be ready when your opportunity comes.” – Benjamin Disraeli

The annual “Colts & Fillies” tournament between Limpopo and Bowls Gauteng North was held recently. Two men’s and two ladies’ teams from each district participated. Both BGN & Limpopo ended on ten points each, but BGN won on aggregate. One of Duiwelskloof’s 50 years plus “Fillies” teams won both their games against Bowls Gauteng North by a

thrilling single point in each game: Peels after 20 ends with the final end producing the one point game — 1st game 22 vs 21, 2nd game 19 vs 18. Well played Hanlie and her team: Beate Altenroxel (2nd, Duiwelskloof), Di de Wet (3rd, Duiwelskloof), Hanlie Duncan (Skip, Naboomspruit) and Mariana Menge (Lead,

Marble Hall)

Mark Mafambe was vanjaar die beste presteerder in

landloop.

Bulletin

After winning Mopani Vodacom prelimi-nary rounds of the Nedbank Cup tournament staged at Giyani stadium on Saturday, Blue Rocks FC is half way through to the cup. This means that Blue Rocks will have an opportu-nity to rub shoulders with the PSL teams.

This comes after Blue Rocks beat Giyani Hot Spurs 1-0 and later won 3-2 against Winners Park FC in the four-team tournament — to find one team in Mopani that would qualify to play in the Nedbank Cup.

However, before qualifying Blue Rocks will have to play against the winning teams in oth-er districts in the province, before proceeding to the national level to play in the finals.

All the teams that played in the tournament are in the SAFA Second Division League, formerly known as the Vodacom league. Af-ter a convincing 5-0 win against Dynamos, which was relegated to SAFA Second Divi-sion League last year, Winners Park FC had the crowd thinking they were going to win the tournament.

Things changed in the finals, despite the fact that they were leading 2-1 in the first half

against Blue Rocks. They looked tired in the second half as Blue Rocks pushed forward in search for goals to equalise the score.

In the end, Blue Rocks eventually penetrated Winners’ defence and levelled the score to 2-2. It did not take time before Blue Rocks found the net again, to make it 3-2 — a lead that they maintained until the final whistle.

Commenting on the slip of the game after initially leading 2-1 in the first half, Winners Park coach Willy Moloto said they had the game in their pockets, but his team just made too many mistakes that cost them the match. He said they played well and that Blue Rocks were lucky to have beaten them.

“If you look at the game you’d realise that some of the goals that they scored were not actually goals that they worked for. They cap-italised on our mistakes,” he said, adding that he was happy with his team’s performance. “We now need to go back to the drawing board and change our focus to the league,” he said.

Blue Rocks’ coach could not be reached for comment.

Golfers celebrate excellent 2013

Merensky High School’s golfers recently held their annual year-end function. They celebrated a great season by winning the C-division league, as well as the Inter High B-division. All the team members enjoyed a braai, and received certificates to honour their participation.

Future plans were discussed, such as establishing another league to further develop young players. The annual Merensky golf day will be held on 26 April next year.

Merensky’s golf organiser, Mr Stefan Nawrattel, thanked every player, parent and sponsor for developing golf at Merensky. Three of the school’s top golfers who were awarded for the performance during 2013 were Danie Leeuwner, Stefan Leeuwner and Steven Brooks.
