The fi re function of the Mopani District Municipality’s Fire and Rescue Services is in such a poor state that it is being referred to as a ticking time bomb. Vehicles and equipment are in such a bad condition and so old that they can no longer be called serviceable. There is also a critical shortage of fi re fi ghting and rescue staff and it is said that Mopani will not be able to survive a major crisis. To add insult to injury, the MDM is also in dire straits as far as money is concerned and staff have not been paid yet for January (they were supposed to have their salaries in their bank accounts on Friday 23 January). At the centre of the crisis is the MDM’s controversial municipal manager, Mr Tim Maake. His immediate suspension is now demanded by workers of the MDM.

Vlieg is bly. Baie bly!

Baie bang!

Natal, me.

Vlieglesers moet asseblief nou aandag gee!

Sê sy: “As I conclude, I revisit the thoughts that guide my innermost conscience in the execution of my responsibilities. Visions of an ideal education system dominate my thinking. In the realm of my thought world, I wish… that our system could have graphologists who would analyse the uniqueness of each child’s handwriting and channel them accordingly… That philosophy could be a subject off ered at a basic education level so that the system could produce critical thinkers; that chess lessons could be off ered to all mathematics learners in order to improve their mathematical schools; and that our system could train and produce phrenologists who would study the shape of a child’s head at Grade R so that we channel the children accordingly”

gra-fo-lo-gie’ s.nw. Studie van handskrif; kuns om uit iemand se handskrif sy karakter, geaardheid en aanleg te lees;

fre-no-lo-gie’ s.nw. Teorie dat ‘n mens se geestes- of karaktereienskappe in die vorm van sy skedel geopenbaar word;

Red ‘n nasie!

• Talle straatligte in Tzaneen is dood.

• Numerous street lights in Tzaneen are out. Peddlers do as they please and are increasing by the day. Potholes in the streets are worsening and increasing daily. Open public spaces maintenance is not done and the play equipment in parks are rusted and poses a danger to children. Trees that are felled or that died due to old age are not replaced. Walls and lampposts are littered with advertisements. Taxis stop where and when they please to pick up or drop o passengers. Motorists disregard amber and even red lights... et cetera. Can we expect order and law abidance to reign again? What do you think?

Owners of diesel vehicles will be delighted to hear that ultra low sul-phur diesel (ULSD) is now available at Sasol fi lling stations in Tza-neen. ULSD is, in a nutshell, cleaner diesel that has been refi ned so that its sulphur content is a maximum of fi ft een (15) parts per million (ppm) or less.

The ULSD that is now available in Tzaneen has a rating of only 10 ppm. This is at least 97% cleaner than the standard highway-use die-sel fuel, which contains an average of 500 ppm of sulphur. Sulphur, a natural part of the crude oil from which diesel fuel is derived, is one of the key causes of particulates or soot in diesel. Soot is the main culprit of diesel engines’ noxious black exhaust fumes, and is among the prime contributors to air pollution.

ULSD is thus aimed at lowering diesel engines’ harmful exhaust emissions and improving air quality. It has been the standard in Eu-rope for several years.

ULSD enables the new generation of diesel vehicles to meet the same strict emission standards as gasoline-powered vehicles.

The SAPS say they are now at the top of their game aft er a number of new vehicles have been allocated to all police stations in the Tzaneen Cluster.

SAPS Tzaneen Cluster spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe promises that with the new vehicles, the police’s response time will improve. “We received a fl eet of vehicles; and we will make sure the vehicles are not abused and used for personal purposes,” he told Bulletin.

Ngoepe urges members of the community to report any incidence of abuse of Police vehicles that they notice.

The future of the Tzaneen Dam will be in the spotlight today, when councillors of the GTM and certain role players will discuss a resource management plan to control the utilization of the water resource and the surrounding environment.

The aim is to fi nd ways which will promote community participation and environmental sustainability of the dam, and to unlock socio-economic potential of the water resource for recreational use.

Ngoako Patrick Mashatole from Bolobedu Ga-Mmamatlepa was arrested for raping fi ve elderly women on separate days between 2009 and 2013. These incidents occurred at Bochabelo, Ga-Abel and Ga-Ntata respec-tively, where he was targeting elderly women at the ploughing fi elds. Police spokesperson

Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe said, ”the raped vic-tims’ ages are 53, 69, 69, 74 and 75 and his method of raping them was found to be the same except in one incident, where he broke into one of the victims’ home during the night and raped her — the rest were at the plough-ing fi elds during the day”. Members of the SAPS’s FCS Unit arrested Mashatole, to the huge relief of the elderly women in the area. The suspect appeared in the Bolobedu Mag-istrates Court on Monday on fi ve charges of rape and the case was remanded to 27 Febru-ary. He was not allowed bail.

Rapist jailed for twenty yearsDaniel Stoffie Ngobeni (20) from Ga-Sek-gopo outside Modjadjiskloof was sen-tenced to twenty years imprisonment for raping a young girl aged eleven years. The incident occurred at Ga-Sekgopo in No-vember 2013 when the suspect met the vic-tim walking with her friends from church to her home. The suspect threatened the young girls with a knife. They ran away and he grabbed the victim, took her to his home and raped her. The sentence is highly welcomed by the SAPS.

Wanted suspect in custodyThlana Benea (28), a previ-ously most-wanted mur-der suspect from Ethiopia, handed himself over to the Police, aft er he had re-portedly seen pictures of himself in newspapers. He appeared in the Naphuno Magistrates Court, Lenye-nye, on a charge of murder earlier in the week. He was

denied bail and lodged an application for bail again yesterday — aft er the Bulletin had gone to print. The deceased cannot be named yet, pending certain protocols between the two countries to be cleared up.

Suspects behind barsThe police in Bolobedu have arrested the fol-lowing 46 suspects on various criminal ac-tivities over the past weekend: 29 people got arrested for drinking in public, six for assault GBH, four for assault, three for rape and the

rest got arrested for theft of a motor vehicle, malicious damage to property, robbery and reckless and negligent driving.

Man impersonated Policeman

A 30-year-old man was recently arrested for impersonating a Police offi cer in the Tzaneen CBD. The police received information from shoppers that a man with a Police identity card was robbing people.

During his arrest, the 30-year-old was found with the fake Police identity card, as well as bank and clothing account cards. He ap-peared in the Tzaneen Magistrates Court ear-lier in the week. His case has been postponed for further investigation.

The Tzaneen SAPS say cases in which bank users are approached by thieves claiming to be Police offi cers aft er drawing money are common. The thieves reportedly tell people that they have to check that it was not stolen money, since money had been stolen and it is back in circulation.

Wall kills two womenThe police in Maake are investigating an ac-cident at Suiker Farm (next to the Tzaneen-Lydenburg road) on Friday last week, when a wall collapsed, killing two women. The women were sitt ing next to the wall while a

tractor was busy working on the other side of the wall. The wall allegedly started cracking and ultimately fell over and onto them. Both died instantly. They were identifi ed as Shalati Nyambi (61) and Mandy Margaret (age un-known). The police will continue investigat-ing the accident.

Manhunt for robbery suspect The Police in Tzaneen launched a massive man-hunt for a suspect who al-legedly robbed a 67-year-old man from R40 000 at a bank in Tzaneen late last year. The suspect, Maropeng Moses Masetla (41), allegedly en-tered one of the banks in Tzaneen, claiming to be a SAPS detective. He called the victim, saying that he needed to interrogate him in connection with a case of robbery. He then proceeded to rob the victim and disap-peared.

Masetloa is said to be residing in Tickyline, Lenyenye. The police request the victim to report to the Tzaneen Police or his nearest po-lice station to assist with investigations. Ma-setla was previously arrested and sentenced to two years imprisonment for robbery in 2008, but was later released on parole.

Anyone with information of his wherea-bouts may also contact their nearest police station or D/constable Mohale Matshwi on 076 924 1237, Col James Espach on 082 451 7169 or the SAPS Crime stop number 08600 10111 which is available 24/7.

Police arrested 69The Police in Tzaneen arrested 69 people for various criminal activities over the past week: twenty people got arrested for pros-titution, twelve for shoplifting and eight for contravening the Road Traffic Act, seven for illegal gambling, four for assault GBH, four for having counterfeit goods in their possession, four for theft, two for drinking in public, two for reckless and negligent driving, two for possession of unlicensed firearms and the rest for housebreaking and theft, rape, fraud and impersonating a Police officer.

Me Margie van Tonder skryf vandag verder

Kontak haar by 084 414 6166 of 015 307 5029.

• Verhoudings: dood of afwesigheid van n persoon of dier;

• Omgewing: verlies as

UNISA.

Challenging the law(s)Not so long ago, during an informal dis-cussion in our offi ces, as senior Bulletin journalist expressed grave concern about “the fact that South Africa has become a lawless society” — only to be corrected by a junior colleague saying that “we have laws and thus it can’t be a matt er of law-lessness, but rather of people not respect-ing (or fearing) the laws of the country”.

This truth — that people seem to have lost all fear of or respect for the law — is to be witnessed in ou area as well, on a daily basis. Motorists, developers, con-tractors, builders, hawkers, pedestrians... name them, don’t hesitate to ignore laws and by-laws and law enforcement offi c-ers (those with clean hands!) are being challenged head-on when they dare to apply the law or to promote orderliness.

We have indeed become a law challeng-ing society and the results (as have just been seen in Soweto and other townships in the Jo’burg area) could further destroy our democracy.

At the heart of the problem is political leaders’ lack of will to promote respect for the law, and to have the law being en-forced withou fear or favour.

It’s saddening to see a great country being slowly ruined by a citizenry who abuse the law, evade the law and simply ignore it in on almost every level of society.

Our Opinion Die Boodskap

Do we still have room for Ladies & Gentlemen in society?

So I have heard a couple too many people (men) say they hear femi-nists and the gender equality non-sense, but they would still like women to be ladies.

This made me think, are these gendered social classes still rel-evant in society and importantly, what does it mean to be a Lady or a Gentleman? I use capital initials to separate the classes from the gen-eral reference to all women or men.

Back in the days — at least as far back as the 1700s, a gentleman, ac-cording to the literature of the time, was essentially a man with a con-siderable income (middle class).

So much is said today about the character of a gentleman; however, back then, the char-acter was arguably meaningless without fi nancial back-up.

For example, early in Charles Dickens’ David Copperfi eld, David tries to console litt le Em’ly, an orphan, about the loss of her parents by relating the loss of his own father.

To show David the fault of his comparison, litt le Em’ly says, “Be-sides, your father was a gentleman and your mother is a lady; and my father was a fi sherman and my mother was a fi sherman’s daughter, and my uncle Dan is a fi sherman.”

The Uncle Dan (Mr Peggoty) litt le Em’ly refers to here is a very kind and selfl ess man who adopted her and another orphan, Ham, respec-tively when their parents died at sea.

He lives in a small boat-turned-house by the sea in Yarmouth, where he fi shes and takes care of his family. The family includes a Mrs Gummidge, the widow of his once boat partner who also died at sea.

However, although in this case Mr

Peggoty — the brother of David’s maidser-vant (Clara) Peggoty — is “as good as gold and as true as steel,” as Peggoty describes him, he is too poor to be a Gentleman.

It is thus not by habit that David introduces Mr Murdstone — a very “grave”, “cold” and abusive business-man who later marries his mother — as a Gentleman. The term was by many means a classist term and had very litt le to do with one’s good demeanour.

A Lady, on the other hand, was a woman married to a man of high rank. The books of Jane Austen ex-

tensively discuss the nature of Ladies. Moreover, perhaps unlike Gentle-

men, Ladies mainly subscribed to a certain air of demeanour.

In Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, Elizabeth is criticised by the ladies of Netherfi eld for walking a long dis-tance in mud to go and att end to her sick sister. This was arguably in scru-tiny of her eligibility to be married to a noble man and become a Lady.

Ladies were instead somewhat immobile. They would organise their households, but they had serv-ants to do the physical work.

Are the terms things we still want to embrace in society? To be con-tinued... * Let me know what you think by visit-ing our website and commenting.

For crying out loudBy Joy Mojela

Jesus’ life here on earth can be divided into fi ve phases:

Infancy PreparationPopularityPassionRisen LifeIf we use these phases as we

study the life of Christ here on earth, perhaps, we can bett er understand what He actually did for us. We were not there during His Infancy, Preparation, Popularity or Passion, but we are part of His Risen life, if we have ac-cepted Christ into our lives. He gave us the guidelines during His life here on earth.

He lived on earth as a human and therefore He experienced all we experience, but He be-lieved in His Father and the direction He gave Him. We too need to believe in the same direction that He gives us. This takes a tremendous amount of faith, which for many of us is or seems impossible.

We are living in a corrupt world, a world where there

are so many pressures to con-form to what is popular at that specifi c time, otherwise we may be considered as not “with it”. Yet with all we re-ceive from our Heavenly Fa-ther, we can still achieve this and much more. We need only to believe we have the talents which He gave us to grow in faith. He is with us every step of the way.

Jesus was also considered by some as “weird”. He of-ten did not fi t in with those who considered themselves the “elite”, so we need not to worry what others think of us, provided we are follow-ing Jesus’ example.

Paul in his lett er to the Ro-mans (Romans 2:12) tells us how to act.

“Do not conform any longer to the patt ern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is — His good, pleasing and per-fect will.”

NY also bans styrofoam A takeaway cup can last thousands of years in the

environment

New York mayor Bill de Blasio announced a ban on the sale and use of styrofoam cups, food containers and packing material. polystyrene (EPS) is not a recyclable product. The new law prohibits food service establishments, stores and manufacturers from possessing, selling or off ering single-service EPS foam articles or polystyrene loose-fi ll packaging in that city. De Blasio was reported to be optimistic about the ban’s environmental impact. It is expected to keep nearly 30 000 tonnes of EPS waste out of the city’s landfi lls and streets. In 2011 California’s senate voted to phase out the use of styrofoam in that

state by 2014.The common styrofoam container is incredibly eff ective at keeping warm things warm and cool things cool and it is extraordinarily cheap. “Studies have shown that styrofoam accounts for as much as

15% of stormwater litter, and it’s the second-most prevalent type of beach debris. Quite apart from the disposal problems it presents to local authorities, due to its light weight, the material breaks down into beads and can be carried long distances on winds and ocean currents, wreaking havoc on wildlife.”

Al Salamu Alaikum — Peace Be Upon You. This is a com-mon greeting in the Middle-East and the theme for the un-forgett able and, unfortunately, ephemeral Round Square International Conference, set in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan — a part of the world laden with confl ict.

The seemingly bewildering theme for the conference served to raise the anticipation of SLC’s delegation; as if countless hours dreaming of the endless shopping to be

done and gett ing lost in the city of Dubai during the pre-conference tour hadn’t already done so!

The hospitable King’s Academy not only met our antici-pations, but surpassed any and every expectation in the most spectacular of ways, as the hosts of the conference. The amazing and thought-provoking speakers off ered new and diff erent perspectives of Middle-Eastern con-fl ict, eye-opening and enjoyable service projects, as well as the amazing opportunity to learn from and make tons of new friends from around the world.

These were only a few of the aspects of the conference which we experienced whilst enjoying the most fun times! It was all made absolutely memorable.

Parents of Nhluvuko High School in Gi-yani are extremely happy and thankful aft er a radio station had donated school uniform to 160 pupils. The radio station runs a campaign every year in January, to help underprivileged pupils get uni-forms and essential study material.

According to the radio station’s mar-

keting manager, Ms Vongi Nkanyani, most of the classrooms at the school had no doors or windows before the station embarked on a campaign to fi nd donors to help them fi x the classrooms. It fi xed the school with help from the correctional services, which provided free labour.

Ms Mkateko Hlungwani), a teacher at Nhluvuko, is seen handing out uniforms to pu-pils. She was assisted by an official of the correctional services.

Pupils at Nhluvuko High School make for a nice picture of uniformity in their spanking new uniforms, donated by a

radio station.

Duiwelskloof Primary School named their most considerate pupils in each class during 2014 at the end of last year. Seen here are, at the back: Reinette Jacobs (best in the school), Kyle Shulman, Shibu Ramango, Janco Coetzee, Lati Makoro, Mechane Toy and Mothibedi Motau. In the middle row are Tabassum Bhuiyan, Kholofelo Moloto, Nickie Venter, Tetelo Moketla, Léna Basson and Motsiri Sekgota, and in the front are Pierre Geyser and Keratliwe Mohale.

Page 9: Bulletin 150130

During coming weeks the Bulletin will feature in-depth articles on sub-stance abuse. Leading the discussion is well known Tzaneen pharmacist Mr Pieter Geldenhuys, widely known as Piet Pille — a name that stuck aft er a quirky moment on the Letaba rugby fi eld years ago.

Piet Pille was appointed Limpopo representative of the now defunct Drugwise council in 1991. Since then he’s continued to be involved with substance abuse and, together with a knowledgeable inter-disciplinary team of specialists — called the Substance Abuse Prevention Centre (SAPC) — he continues to be the fi rst port of call for substance abusers and their families throughout the Limpopo province.

In 99.9% of substance abuse cases, there’s a specifi c reason for the abuse. It oft en starts at home, just as physical, mental and emotional skill building (should) start at home. A person’s sense of wellbeing can be aff ected, negatively or positively, as early as in the womb. When a foetus is unwant-ed, it can translate into psychological problems later in life.

This is especially true if it concerns the mother, who is of-ten perceived by the child as the centre of their universe, whereas the father is more oft en the disciplinarian and sett er of boundaries – a completely diff erent role in the child’s life.

When babies cry, they cry for a reason. A mother that re-sponds by shouting compounds the baby’s stress. The baby

cannot yet ex-press its needs and gets shout-ed at when he is in need. This child is likely to develop into a person who has a quick temper and lapses into verbal att acks as protection. Conversely, if a child is treated with respect and love, if the child is given regular healthy doses of loving, physical contact, it creates a feel-ing of You’re-ok-I’m-ok and the child is likely to develop into a

more well-adapted person. As the child develops, more than physical contact

is required to maintain this atmosphere that all is well. The loving parent-child relationship needs to be augmented with the PACT concept — Parent And Child Talk. It becomes ultra important to the welfare of the child to spend time with his parents around the dining or kitchen table, talking and in-teracting. Quality time around the table creates the opportunity for parents to really get to know their child, and vice versa. Studies done by Dr Sean Zeel-ie, a specialist on drug abuse, have shown that a child who spends time with his parents around the

table seven or more times a week, has his chances of becom-ing a drug addict reduced to a mere 2%. On the other hand, families who interact around a table less than twice a week increases drug addiction in the child to more than 50%. PACT helps the child grow emo-tionally and psychologically. The bonds it helps to create strengthen the child’s sense of wellbeing and build his rela-tionship with his parents.

SAPC sees a lot of sub-stance abuse in cases of di-vorce. Children up to the age of 5 feel the backlash of divorce the most severely, as they are not able to verbal-ise the pain of divorce. This can again lead to emotional and psychological complica-tions, which in turn can once again lead to drug abuse. As Geldenhuys says, substance abuse is a symptom of a problem. Children as young as ten are struggling with ad-diction problems.

SAPS is very supportive, and SAPC would like to see abusers in rehabilitation cen-tres rather than prison. Of se-rious concern is the fact that years ago marij uana used to be a gateway drug. That’s

not the case anymore as children now move straight to their drug of choice.

Substance abuse continues to es-calate, but is surfacing more oft en

as abusers become aware that help is available. The Substance Abuse Prevention Centre enjoys the services

of dr Gary Middleton, (with dr André Botes in an advisory capacity), therapist Ms Doreen Lemmer, the director of men-tal health in Limpopo Mr Carel Mouton, occult therapist Ms Debbie Kayser and Ms Anza van Vuuren, previously the de-partment of education’s representative at SAPC.

The centre is not an institution where patients are absorbed into a system. It works on an out-patient basis and, through referrals, the person is directed to the specialist most suited to his needs. Everything is highly confi dential and all other health care professionals endorse this centre.

— Redakteur

It is a shambles. A total disaster! The latest assessment report for

the fi re function of the Mopani Fire and Rescue Services, drawn up by the Fire Protection Association of SA, the country’s most authoritative body to do these assessments, paints an alarming picture of a local district government that is a shambles.

In fact, it could be said that Mo-pani’s fi re function that should con-tain disasters, is in itself a disaster!

Outdated and unserviceable vehi-cles and equipment, the call-taking centre (for all emergencies) is not ful-ly operational, no risk profi le for the towns and district and classifi cation of the area is not available, a num-ber of vehicles don’t comply with the SANS 10090 recommendations and general safety By-law enforcement is limited due to manpower shortages.

A serious irregularity regarding oc-cupancy certifi cates is stated in the report, saying that occupancy certifi -cates are issued in spite of outstand-ing fi re safety recommendations.

In the meantime the Bulletin has also seen a report warning the MDM about the staff shortages.

According to our information the fi re function has to try and execute their duties while there is 85 vacan-

cies, making it almost impossible to render any sort of service.

We have been told that the sen-ior offi cials and councillors of the MDM could face huge claims if a fi re would, for example, cause big damage to property and especially if human life is compromised. Because senior management and councillors are and have been aware of the se-rious situation for some time and furthermore because they have not done enough to address the problem and appoint people to fi ll the vacant posts, they could be held responsible jointly and severally for damages.

The vacant posts have been adver-tise, but no appoints were made, since it was said that there is no money to pay the people.

Read our report elsewhere on this page about the MDM’s current crisis regarding payment of wages and salaries.

We will continue to investigate the critical situation facing the MDM’s fi nancial problems, and inform our readers accordingly.

 e MDM’s time bomb

Hier kom ‘n ding

A “Coffee for Marcelle Day” will be held at Twig’s, 4 Boundary Street, Tzaneen on Satur-day 7th February at 10a.m. Twig’s owner, Ms Dale Kenney, says it’s a morning to show that the province cares about its people. T-shirts and mugs inscribed with the words “Coffee for Mar-celle Day” will be sold and the public is asked to bring banners, presents and messages of sup-

port for Marcelle. Marcelle van Vuuren (23), a well known and loved hair stylist in Tzaneen, had a head-on-collision near Soekmekaar in December. Passenger, Ms Carla Swart, died. Marcelle was transported to a Pretoria hospital, where she’s still under the watchful care of plastic surgeon. She had both legs amputated above the knee with severe back and internal injuries. She’s had several opera-tions and has had painful debriding sessions on her stumps and other areas.

Fire Tim Maake, or suspend him. We couldn’t care less. We just want our money.

So said the secretary of Samwu (the SA Municipal Workers Un-ion) in Mopani, Pastor Mafumo, yesterday. He was leading a big group of MDM workers to the of-fi ces of the MDM in Tzaneen.

Later in the day they handed a memorandum to the MDM’s may-or, the chief whip and the speaker.

According to a report from the MDM the January salaries could not be paid due to unforeseen reasons. These reasons allegedly include an accusation that money owed to the MDM by die Limpopo Government has not been paid.

However, our information is that the government has refused to assist with any payments to the MDM, until the situation with municipal manager Tim Maake has been resolved.

The MDM started a process to suspend Maake a number of weeks ago, but until yesterday aft ernoon nothing further has

happened. The MDM followed the wrong procedures when they suspended him two weeks ago.

Allegations of mismanagement and corruption in the MDM have been doing the rounds for about the last two to three years.

A senior member of the ANC in Mopani, who understandably does not want to be identifi ed, said to us “Maake knows too much” and “if he sinks, a number of high pro-fi le people will also sink.”

According to this seemingly well informed person Maake will ac-cept a golden handshake (of a sub-stantial amount), but he will also demand exemption from prosecu-tion. Maake was indeed arrested in Lenyenye last year and his case has allegedly been referred to the High Court in Pretoria.

Details of the case and the charg-es against him seem to be kept top secret and eff orts by the Bulletin to obtain more information have so far been unsuccessful.

Albei spanne speel more teen PHS.

More speel BV tuis teen Alberton se Hoërskool Marais Viljoen.

sonder ekstra gewig daarop.

“It’s fi ne to celebrate succes, but it is more important to heed the lessons of failure.” — Bill Gates

Fienk Pienk!Bloubefoeterd!

Christelle Coetzer.

Stanford’s 1st team members who played against Northern Academy were, in front: Hlanhla Mohlaba, Matthew Maritz and Graeme Harty and behind them Declan Taggart, Justin Trueman, Estian Botha, Christian Schmidt, Bryce Reed, Conrad Schmidt, Bradley Penrose, Jason Wright

and Mr Shane Friedrichs (coach).

SLC just too goodLast Friday Stanford Lake College played cricket against Northern Academy (NA) in Polokwane and enjoyed a good win that didn’t come easy though.

Stanford won the toss and elected to bat fi rst. They got off to a good start, with Conrad Schmidt making 27 and Matt hew Maritz 45. Declan Taggart also scored a valuable 46 in the middle of the innings. They ended with a reasonable score of 168 off twenty overs.

NA pushed Stanford right to the end and scored 141 in reply. They were in touch with the run rate all the way to the last few overs.

Jason Wright bowled a match winning spell, taking two wickets in his four overs and only conceding a meagre twelve runs.
