Plain and simple not capable

of doing a proper job.

Want open hulle ‘n diefstal saak of aanranding of

In sewe provinsies gaan dit slegter as in Limpopo.

• The crime statistics for the past year were made public recently and the overall picture looks dreary with alarming increases in most serious crimes. Seven provinces are faring worse than Limpopo however and the statistics show that Limpopo is the second best province. This does however not mean that all is well and that crime here is at acceptable levels. Do you see light (not from an oncoming train!) at the end of the tunnel for an improvement in the control of crime in the new year?

Pentecostalism or Classical Pentecostalism is a renewal movement within Christianity that places special emphasis on a direct personal experience of God through the baptism with the Holy Spirit. Like other forms of evangelical Protestantism, Pentecostalism adheres to the inerrancy of scripture and the necessity of accepting Christ as personal Lord and Savior. It is distinguished by belief in the baptism with the Holy Spirit as an experience separate from conversion that enables a Christian to live a Holy Spirit-fi lled and empowered life. This empowerment includes the use of spiritual gift s such as speaking in tongues and divine healing — two other defi ning characteristics of Pentecostalism.

Pentecostalism is an evangelical faith, emphasizing the reliability of the Bible and the need for the transformation of an individual’s life through faith in Jesus. Like other evangelicals, Pentecostals generally adhere to the Bible’s divine inspiration and inerrancy — the belief that the Bible, in the original languages in which it was writt en, is infallible. Pentecostals emphasize the teaching of the “full gospel” or “foursquare gospel”.

The term foursquare refers to the four fundamental beliefs of Pentecostalism: Jesus saves; baptizes with the Holy Spirit; heals bodily; and is coming again to receive those who are saved.

The central belief of Pentecostalism is that through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, sins can be forgiven and humanity reconciled with God. This is the Gospel or “good news”.

The fundamental requirement of Pentecostalism is that one be born again. The new birth is received by the grace of God through faith in Christ as Lord and Savior. In being born again, the believer is regenerated, justifi ed, adopted into the family of God and the Holy Spirit’s work of sanctifi cation is initiated.

Baptism with the Holy Spirit is an empowering experience distinct from baptism into the body of Christ. In this baptism, Christ is the agent and

the Holy Spirit is the medium. The majority of Pentecostals believe

that at the moment a person is born again, the new believer has the presence (indwelling) of the Holy Spirit. While the Spirit dwells in every

Christian, Pentecostals believe that all Christians should seek to be fi lled with him. The Spirit’s “fi lling”, “falling upon”, “coming upon”, or being “poured out upon” believers is called the baptism with the Holy Spirit. Pentecostals defi ne it as a defi nite experience occurring aft er salvation whereby the Holy Spirit comes upon the believer to anoint and empower him or her for special service. It has also been described as “a baptism into the love of God”.

Pentecostalism is a holistic faith, and the belief that Jesus is Healer is one quarter of the full gospel. Pentecostals cite four major reasons for believing in divine healing: 1) it is reported in the Bible, 2) Jesus’ healing ministry is included in his atonement (thus divine healing is part of salvation), 3) “the whole gospel is for the whole person” — spirit, soul, and body, 4) sickness is a consequence of the Fall of Man and salvation is ultimately the restoration of the fallen world.

For Pentecostals, spiritual and physical healing serves as a reminder and testimony to Christ’s future return when his people will be completely delivered from all the consequences of the fall. However, not everyone receives healing when they pray. It is God in his sovereign wisdom, who either grants or withholds healing. Common reasons that are given in answer to the question why are all not healed include: God teaches through suff ering, healing is not always immediate, lack of faith on the part of the person needing healing, and personal sin in one’s life (however, this does not mean that all illness is caused by personal sin).

was egter laag.

A businessman and his family were overpowered in their home in Frank May Street, Premier Park, Tzaneen, by four armed robbers early Monday morning, after their three dogs had been poisoned by the suspects.

They allegedly broke down a sliding door to get access and tied up the family with cable ties. Nobody was injured, but the rob-

bers escaped with a large amount of cash and several valuable items. Only one dog survived the poisoning.

Police spokesman Lt Col Moat-she Ngoepe could not identify the victims and was unable to de-scribe the stolen items.

Volgens Du Toit is dit net ‘n tyde-like sloering.

Motorists have been warned by traffic police to be very careful at the beginning of the rainy season. It takes some heavy rain to wash the dry season’s dust and oil from the roads and with the first light rain the roads are always very slippery. Last weekend’s light rain was just enough to cause roads to be very slippery and a number of minor accidents were reported; like this one on the R36. Nobody was injured, but the damage to the vehicles was

quite extensive.

Former Merensky High School deputy head boy (in 2011), Mosibudi Rasethaba (Rassie), has been elected as president of the University of Pretoria’s Students Representative Council (SRC).

The 21-year-old second year student is studying towards achieving a BA degree in Psychology. He saw an opportunity to give back to Tuks by standing in the elections for the 2014/2015 SRC and was elected as president in the elections held across all UP campuses. He feels that this is a platform to not only develop his leadership skills, but bring about positive and eff ective change for all stu-dents.

He discovered his passion for leadership and commu-nity engagement early whilst

still in primary school in Polokwane. He was not only head boy, but was also in-volved in multiple community projects, which included volunteering at both the SPCA and local orphanages.

According to Rassie, his love and passion for community engagement continued into his high school years at Merensky. Here he co-founded a Chris-tian learner’s movement called GoMAD (Make a Diff erence) which still exists. This movement aims to empower the

learners with knowledge of biblical teachings and provide them with the opportunity to be actively involved in the community through outreaches.

At Merensky he was also involved in a book club that off ered assistance to under-privileged schools in the area by donating books and teaching the pu-pils how to read. He was also captain of Merensky’s athletics team, and well known for his mott o: “If you can think it, you can do it”.

Former Plasie now leads at Tuks

years of loving our community

10

The grace of the Lord never ceases. Yet will we ever be able to fully realise what this means? We all have obstacles to grace in our own lives.

We as Christians live in a real world, a world fi lled with temptations, not in a world as some may think where we, as Christians, can do no wrong. Aft er all we have been saved! We are no more in condemnation! Jesus died and took away our sin! So one would think that it is okay to go out there and do what we please and not suff er any consequences. Wrong! We are clearly told “the wages of sin are death”

Obstacles to grace are common, they take place every day and sometimes we are not even aware of them or might think that they are not really obstacles. Everyone experi-ences obstacles to grace, even the most religious people, or those we perceive to be religious and faultless, like our religious leaders.

But what is an obstacle to grace? It is anything that keeps us from enjoying the loving relationship God off ers us in Christ. Or more commonly known as S I N. Sin is self-cen-teredness rather than God-centeredness. It is the I in sin that is the problem. I sin God does not. The Greek word for sin is Hamartia, an archery term which means “to miss the mark or target”

What is standing in your way to obtain this Grace from God? Pray about it and speak to someone who is con-sidered a good Christian friend, join a small group where there is accountable discipleship.

Blessings.

What’s up with young people and loud music these days?

Forgive me, I need to rant. I may be in my middle-20s, but I seriously don’t understand my generation’s fuss with loud music... or is it just my generation? In these passing six years, I’ve lived in six diff erent plac-es/houses with people in my age group; that is, not older than 30. I’ve almost al-ways had to complain about how loud they play their music.

But it’s not just in their homes where people are increasingly inconsiderate of their neighbours when playing music. A chaos of music coming out of head-phones is becoming a thing in public transports. Every now and then a car driven by some wayward (traffi c rules have a noise limit) teenage-like boy (it’s mainly boys) with music thumping, shaking almost everything shake-able, passes down the street.

There’s also always that young head-phones-wearing person on ATM lines or walking on the streets listening to music loud enough to be heard fi ve me-ters away. Even in the work place, the music thumping generation pollutes

the audio-sphere.On average I don’t spend much time

listening to music — I prefer watching moving pictures. Perhaps this is why I don’t understand the need to play mu-sic loudly. I also generally can’t stand any sound louder than my thoughts.

So usually, to console myself when unfortunately exposed to loud music, I tell myself that the people who con-stantly listen to noise (if it escapes your headphones and is clearly audible to the next person, it‘s no longer music) are afraid of their inner thoughts. They constantly need noise to silence the voice inside.

On a more serious note, listening to loud music/sounds, especially through headphones, is really not good for the ears. According to Robert Beiny, a di-rector of audiology at a hearing health-care institution in the UK, teenagers across the world increasingly experi-

ence same hearing problems as older generations due to frequent exposure to loud music. “Listening to loud mu-sic over long periods of time gradually weakens hearing structures in the ear, causing conditions such as ringing

(tinnitus) or muffl ed hearing,” he says.A study in America shows that one

in four America teenagers between 13 and 17 years are at risk of hearing loss, called noise-induced hearing loss, due to headphones and the level of volume.

Lisa Nathan, a Cape Town Medi-Clin-ic audiologist, says induced hearing problems are not uncommon amongst the South African youth.

Thus, the next time you play music loudly, other than that you are being a serious nuisance to the people around you, think of your ears and the quality of hearing life you want to live, or learn sign language.Sources: htt p://greatist.com/health/loud-music-dangeroushtt p://www.health24.com/Medical/Hearing-man-agement/Noise/IPod-generation-risks-hearing-loss-20120721http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/healthy-living/well-being/keeping-your-ears-safe.htm

For crying out loudBy Joy Mojela

Don’t be blasé about crimeLimpopo is not really such a safe place, despite the latest crime statistics suggesting that it is the second safest province to stay. What is alarming is that only 12,5% of crime was detected by police. This shocking statistic is said to be as a result of a lack of manpower and capacity to police the area properly.

According to the statistics released by Limpopo’s SAPS Commissioner on Tuesday, robbery with ag-gravating circumstances increased by an alarming 31,6%, drug related crimes increased by a shocking 27,6%, robbery at residential premises increased by a rather worrying 25,2%, att empted murder increased by 5,6% and murder has increased by 3,8%.

Analysts say the stats for sexual off ences and hij ack-ing are also at unacceptable levels while observers are concerned about the number of criminal incidents that are not reported and as a result are not at all re-fl ected in the crime statistics.

Politicians of mainly opposition parties have ex-pressed unhappiness about the fact that the statistics were not met with a detailed plan of action to combat crime and make the province a safer place to live.

They also say the high fi gures for robbery and hi-jackings “may have a devastating impact on the in-surance premiums of the residents of Limpopo”.

Capital short R2m for parking

The DA will request the speaker of the Polokwane City Council to urgently convene a special council meeting for a debate about a contractor who allegedly owes the municipality R2 million.

The DA claims in a statement that the Polokwane Municipality is about to terminate the contract of a service provider who was responsible for street park-ing in the city, without demanding the company to pay back the revenue it has generated over a couple of years.

The community of Tzaneen will soon enjoy the town’s hot summer days cooling off in style, following the news of the upgrading of the public swimming bath in Crown Street at a cost of just over R17 million.

Consulting engineers were appointed in November last year, to oversee the reconstruction, refurbishment and upgrading of the swimming bath. The Greater Tzaneen Municipality invited tenders for the project and the contract was awarded to Lilithalethu Trading 41(their tender price was R17,247 million) . They started working on the project last month and the job is expected to be completed by May next year.

GTM spokesman Mr. Neville Ndlala told Bulletin earlier this week that “the scope of work will cover the demolition of the existing swimming bath and the

construction of a new Olympic size swimming bath, “there will also be a pavilion with new shading, ablution facilities, an observation shed, a children’s pool and a kiosk”, he said.

“We believe the refurbishment of this historical recreation facility is long overdue and will benefi t our people immensely, especially swimming clubs/athletes and all residents seeking recreation, especially during summer when the sun is scorching hot,” he added.

According to Ndlala, details concerning entry fees, bookings, as well as the code of conduct at the swimming bath will be communicated to residents in due course. Residents will also be updated about the progress on this project.

Andrea Devenish, a Gr 11 pupil at Merensky High School, is the rst Plasie to qualify for the Presi-dent’s silver award. To achieve this, she had to play hockey, complete a computer course, complete an adventurous journey of approximately forty

kilometres in the Magoebaskloof mountains and executed forty eight hours of voluntary community service.

Andrea has already started working towards the gold award, an endeavour that will take

no less than twelve months to complete. At present more than fty pupils at Meren-sky are involved in this programme. The bronze award has al-ready been awarded to fourteen Plasies, with the rest still working towards it.

The award is availa-ble in over 140 coun-tries, of which 25 are in Africa, and there are over 850 000 active participants worldwide (14  300 in SA).

The award was renamed in 1993, when it became known as the “Presi-dent’s Award for Youth Empower-ment”, with the late Pres Nelson Man-dela as the founding patron-in-chief.

Miami Canners from Letsitel also took the Ice Bucket. The CANSA Relay 4 Life’s organising committee for Tzaneen challenged all CANSA relay team captains and in true team spirit Miami Canners accepted the chal-lenge and donated R100 per team member to CANSA. Miami is doing

their bit in helping to “can” cancer, because cancer can be beaten.

Ja! — mooi so. Nee?

As spanne nog wil inskryf, moet hulle nou vinnig spring.

Die toernooi begin om 14:00 en vir navrae en inskryfvorms kontak Johan Steyn by 083  287 5839, Pieter Human by 082 553 5887, Johan Smit by 061 041 3020 of Gawie Du Plessis by 083 299 9797.

Bulletin

“If winning isn’t everything, why do they keep score? — Vince Lombardi

Merensky High School hosted their annual “Hostel vs Dorp” derby. Pupils from all grades as well as teachers took part in various sporting activities. Enthusiastic participants tried their hand at archery, cricket, tennis, soccer, netball, chess, hockey and swimming. At the end of the exhausting week long derby Hostel emerged victorious,

pipping Dorp for the best spirit award as well. The junior victor ludorum medal was won by Jaco-Jacques Joubert and Jenna Devenish is the junior victrix ludorum. Leandri Toerien, seen here in action in Merensky’s revamped swimming pool, was named senior victrix ludorum and the senior

victor ludorum was Ivan Botha .
