  • 4Power TrainThe 3412E engine, when matched with the torque divider and field proven power shift transmission, will provide years of dependable service.

    Caterpillar 3412E engine performs atfull-rated net power of 425 kW (570 hp)at 1900 rpm with a high torque rise of30%. The large displacement and hightorque rise allow the D10R to dozethrough tough material.

    Turbocharging and aftercooling providehigh horsepower while keeping RPMand exhaust temperatures low for longhours of continuous operation.

    1 The Hydraulically actuatedElectronically controlled UnitInjection (HEUI) system is a uniqueand proven high-pressure, directinjection fuel system. The electroniccontrol module monitors operator andsensor inputs to optimize engineperformance and fuel efficiency. TheHEUI system is truly unique in itsability to independently controlinjection pressure over the entireengine operating speed range.     Improved Diagnostics/Serviceability.The electronic engine and transmissioncontrols provide enhanced diagnosticcapability. The ability to store bothactive and intermittent indicators willsimplify problem diagnosis and totalrepair time, resulting in improvedmechanical availability and loweroperating costs. Access to diagnostic data is made

    easy through the use of a singleservice tool ECAP or ElectronicTechnician (ET) software package.

    ET accesses data stored in the engineand transmission controls via the Catdata link. Information on engineboost pressure, fuel consumption,engine speed and transmission shiftdata can be retrieved by ET.

    ET is also a powerful diagnostic tool.It replaces 13 mechanical tools toperform functions like cylinder cut-out checks, injector solenoid test, andtiming calibration.

  • 7Cooling SystemSuperior cooling in the most demanding work conditions.

    Advanced Modular Cooling System(AMOCS) utilizes an exclusive two passcooling system and increased coolingsurface area to provide significantlymore cooling capacity thanconventional systems.

    The servicing of the AMOCS can beperformed without tilting the radiatorguard. No need to remove or replace a major

    component as on single-coreradiators.

    Each core module can be replacedindividually (without removing theentire radiator), saving considerablecost and repair time.

    Demand Control Fan

    Engine Control Module (ECM)regulates engine fan speed through amulti-disc fan clutch.

    Fan speed varies according to specificengine cooling requirements.

    Increases available horsepowerreducing parasitic load.

    Fuel Efficient. Reduced spectator and operator sound

    levels.

    Two pass cooling system circulatescoolant from the sectioned bottom tank(1) up through one side (2) of the coolingelement and down through the otherside (3) returning it to the bottom tank.

    The cooling elements are individualcore modules that are connected to asectioned bottom tank. There is no toptank to remove. 9 steel fins per inch. Brass tube construction within each

    core.

    Clear panoramic view. Angled seat,tapered hood and notched fuel tankgive the operator a clear line of sight tothe front and rear work areas.Redesigned single shank ripper frameimproves ripper tip visibility. Largesingle-pane door windows allow theoperator to see close-in to each sidewithout leaning.

    Comfortable, non-tiring operation. Anoptional isolation-mounted cab reducesnoise and vibration, maintaining aninternal sound level under 85 dB(A).The cab is pre-wired for a 12-volt or24-volt radio, and equipped with twospeakers, antenna and radio mountrecessed in the headliner.

    1 Low effort Finger Tip Controls (FTC)are easily accessible and provide sure,precise maneuvering with enhancedoperator comfort. FTC module withpadded armrest is adjustable toaccommodate different size operators.

    2 The Caterpillar Contour Series Seatis fully adjustable and designed forcomfort and support. The seat cushionreduces the pressure on the lower backand thighs while allowing unrestrictedarm and leg movement. Retractable 75mm (3") wide seat belt providespositive, comfortable restraints.

    3 Caterpillar D10R Monitoring Systemhas 3 display sections. The systemprovides instant feedback on machinesystems with 3 levels of operatoralert. The system also recordsperformance data for assistance indiagnosis, is easy to read, reliable andprovides fast troubleshooting.

    Section one has analog gauges whichdisplay engine coolant temperature,transmission oil temperature,hydraulic oil temperature and fuellevel.

    Section two contains an analogtachometer and a gear/directiondisplay.

    Section three displays informationthrough 10 LED indicators andthrough a switchable, digital display.LED indicators provide informationon the engine oil pressure, air filter,power train filter, battery, brakesystem, parking brake, transmissionsystem, steering system, enginecheck, and coolant flow. Switchabledigital display allows operator toscroll through or display tachometer,odometer, hour meter, engine oilpressure and diagnostic codes.

    4 Throttle rocker switch replaces thethrottle lever, simplifying operation.High or low idle is delivered with thetouch of a finger.

    5 Attachment control lever restraints,when engaged, prevent inadvertentmovement of control lever. Theserestraints accept standard Caterpillarpadlocks.

  • 9Finger Tip Controls (FTC) are clusteredfor easy, one-handed operation to theoperators left. They control steering,machine direction and gear selection.

    1 Electronic Clutch and Brake (ECB)steering system consists of two smalllevers which send signals that controlthe steering valve.

    Levers require less than 3 pounds ofpull to actuate.

    Steering is accomplished in much thesame way as with traditional clutchand brake arrangements but with lesstime and effort.

    ECB System allows the operator to workmore precisely in close areas, aroundstructures, obstacles, grade stakes, othermachines or on fine grades.

    Adjustable operator comfortThe system is attached to an electricallinear actuator which allows the FTCmodule to be adjusted up and down.Fore/aft adjustment is controlled by amanual lever on the front of the controlmodule.

    2 Machine Direction is controlled by apivoting knob which can be actuatedby the thumb of the left hand.Rotating the knob up shifts themachine transmission to forward.Rotating the knob down reverses themachine. The middle setting puts themachine transmission in neutral.

    3 Gear selection is made by twobuttons to the right of the machinedirection knob. The top (up-shift)button shifts the machinetransmission to the next higher gearwhile the bottom (down-shift) buttonshifts to the next lower gear.

    4 Parking Brake switch electronicallylocks ECB system.

    Electronic Steering and Transmission ControlsCombines steering, machine direction and gear selection into a control system which can beoperated with one hand, for enhanced operator comfort and increased productivity.

    Mainframe Strength. The D10Rmainframe is built to absorb highimpact shock loads and twisting forces.

    1 Frame rails are full box section,designed to keep components rigidlyaligned.

    2 Heavy steel castings give addedstrength to the main case, equalizerbar saddle, front cross member andtag-link trunnion.

    3 The top and bottom rails arecontinuous rolled sections, with nomachining or welding to providesuperior mainframe durability.

    4 The main case elevates the finaldrives well above the ground levelwork area to protect them fromimpact loads, abrasion andcontaminants.

    5 A pivot shaft and pinned equalizerbar maintain track roller framealignment.

    Tag-link construction has fewer partsfor reduced wear and brings the bladecloser to the machine for more precisedozing and load control.

    Tag-link design provides solid lateralstability and better cylinder positionsfor constant pryout independent ofblade height.

    Suspended undercarriage designabsorbs impact loads to reduce theshock loads transferred to theundercarriage by up to 50%.

    Bogie suspension conforms moreclosely to the ground to provide up to15% more ground contact, especially inhard, uneven terrain. Higher tractionmeans less slippage, better balance, anda smoother ride.

    Roller Frames are tubular, to resistbending and twisting, with addedreinforcement where operating loads arethe highest. Roller frames attach to tractor by a

    pivot shaft and pinned equalizer bar. Large pivot shaft bushings operate in

    an oil reservoir. A low friction, no maintenance

    bushing is used in the saddleconnection.

    Resilient pads restrain equalizer baroscillation.

    The recoil system is sealed andlubricated.

    1 Sealed and Lubricated Track.Permanently coats the track pin witha sealed-in lubricant, minimizingmetal-to-metal contact.

    1 Bulldozers. The 10SU blade, rated at18.5 m3 (24.2 yd3), and the 10U bladeat 22.0 m3 (28.7 yd3) make full use ofthe D10Rs power.

    Dual tilt option improves load control.Allows the operator to optimize theblade pitch angle for each portion of thedozing cycle.

    Single lever controls all blade movements,including the optional dual tilt.

    Cutting edges are DH-2 steel. End bitsare DH-3 to provide maximum servicelife in tough materials.

    Rippers. Single and multi-shank rippersare made to penetrate tough materialfast and rip thoroughly for use in avariety of materials.

    3 Multi-shank ripper tailors the tractorto the material by using one, two orthree shanks.

    Winches. Standard and slow speedarrangements available for enhancedline control. Single lever control andinfinite control of line speed providesmooth response, allowing effortlessoperation.

    Rear counterweights provide propertractor balance to maximize dozingproduction. Recommended if other rearattachment not specified.

    Hydraulic pitch adjustment cylindersvary the shank angle to get the bestpenetration so the material is lifted andshattered.

    2 Single Shank Ripper.

    Operator can adjust the shank depthfrom the seat using an optional singleshank pin puller.

    Large upper frame view holeimproves ripper tip visibility.

    Heat treated spacer bars in rippercarriage to extend pocket life andreduce shank notching.
