Bulldogs and Basset Hounds

Basset Hounds were bred to hunt however, Bulldogs were bred to fight bulls.

Both dogs are stubborn and hard to train.

Both dogs are around 13-15 inches tall.

The weight of Bulldogs is 40-50 pounds. Basset Hounds weigh at least 50 pounds.

Bulldogs were bred in England.

Basset Hounds were bred in France.

BullbaitingBullbaiting is were owners of Bulldogs chain a bull to a post then the owner would command the dog to bite the bulls ears or noses and hang on to the bull as long as possible.

The dog gets more points if it can bite the bull in 1 minute or less. It gets more points if it can hold on to the bull for 5 minutes. The dog with the most points at the end wins. Today bullbaiting is illegal in most countries.

Fun Facts!• Basset means “rather low”

• George Washington owned several Basset Hounds.• Bulldogs burp, snore, snort, and drool

because of their pushed in nose.
