The Junior High students at White Castle High school were treated to a Christmas party from PBS Team on December 19. PBS is posi-tive behavior support. This team rewards the students’ good behavior . Through-out the school year, stu-dents can earn bulldogs bones by following the school - wide expectations. Any Junior High student that had not received an office referral in the month of December was invited to attend. The students were able to use their Bulldog Bones to buy concessions during the party. There was also cookies and punch supplied by the PBS team. The students were treated to music by Brian Batton, DJ Scratch, and coupons from Mc Donald’s. Gifts were donated by Viallon’s Drug store, Gifts from the heart

and Double Cats Market. A good time was had by all that attended.

Pre GED Student Council Elect Kenneth Martin

For a second consecutive season Bulldog fans can be proud of the White Castle High Football Team. The White Caste High Football Team was the only football team from Iberville Parish to make the LHSAA football playoffs. Coach Ferrante Dominique has done a ter-rific job preparing the Bull-dogs day in and day out for each game. He has also helped instill discipline, and character in to these young men and it shows. Numerous Bulldogs have won postseason awards. Awards range from 1st and 2nd Team All-District, All-District Offensive and De-fensive MVP, All-District Athlete, Baton Rouge All- Metro Team, and All-State Honorable Mention. Coach Dominique’s resume’ is very impressive. In an in-terview Coach reflected on the teams accomplishments from this past season:

Q: So how did you feel about the past football season?

A: Very challenging yet rewarding. We initially were faced with adversity

but the strong leadership of our four seniors helped sparked us to the next level. Our kids really bonded together to sup-port out vision.

Q: How are you and the Bulldogs going to prepare for next year?

A: Sacrifice! We have 33 kids already committed which includes 6 seniors and 12 juniors. The class-room and the weight room is an urgent factor to our success.

Q: Do you think ya’ll have a chance to go all the way next year?

A: I don’t think( laughing out loud) I believe all things are possible. We

are loaded with talent . If I were coaching another single A school, I would beware of the Sugarcane infested Bulldogs.

Q: I know the team is young, but who would we have to watch out for coming up in the 2009-2010 season?

A: Let me say this, I don’t like to get into name call-ing but I must mention the Junior Class! They are a promising group of kids led by Ronald Martin, Jonathan Roberts, Shamichael Valentine, new addition Nick Crit-ney, and super sopho-more Tyre Bracken.

Ronald Martin was a huge surprise this year for the Bulldogs. The Sophomore corner led the state in inter-ceptions, and was also among the top interceptions leaders in the nation. His breakout game came against Ascension Catholic where he recorded 4 inter-ceptions. Martin will give Bulldog fans something to look forward to next season.

Coach Ronald Johnson is an iconic figure in the White Castle community. You can find him roaming the side-lines for the Boys’ Basket-ball team every winter. He’s been doing this, coaching that is, for over 35 years. Coach Johnson has been coaching since 1974, and became the Varsity Basketball coach in 1982. He has amassed over 600 victories, 200 losses, 2 state championships, 5 state run-ner-ups, and over 16 dis-trict championships. He has coached many young men over the years, most nota-bly: Kevin Brooks (NBA),

Todd Russ (college basket-ball star), Jamie Holmes, Willie Deperon, and Troy Green (high school coaches). He has also coached Chris Landry (winner of a collegiate championship). Coach Johnson has a very distin-

guished resume’. He is the epitome of longevity. When asked about current Bull-dog player Coach re-sponded by saying, “It gets harder every year. Atti-tudes change, and the love for the game is not there. Kids don’t practice any-more, fans do not show support as they did in the past, and no one plays to-gether. It seems as if the team is divided. And to top it all North (Iberville) is picked to win the district. What a shame!”

The 2nd half of the girls’ game was highly competi-tive. Both teams and coaches got after it trying to get that all impor-tant dis-trict win. The game came to a last sec-ond des-peration

Well as the title indicates the Lady Bulldogs came into Tuesday night’s con-test against the #5 Class A girls’ team in the state, the North Iberville Bears, as huge underdogs. That’s why they don’t play games on paper. The Lady Bull-dogs came out sluggish, but eventually picked it up on defense to win a thriller against the Bears 33-32.

an answer. However the Bears didn’t have one thing that the Bulldogs had, Te-rell Elzy. Elzy, a Senior guard helped lifted the Bulldogs to a 68–60 victory in their district opener. Elzy started in place of Sen-ior swingman Jontrel Major, (who didn’t suit up because of LHSAA rules). Elzy pro-

vided the spark that the Bulldogs were looking for. Elzy scored 9 points, made numerous assists, and hus-tle plays, and came up big in the clutch for the Bull-dogs. Other key contribu-tors were Senior Generra Varmall who poured in25 points and Senior Darrell Haynes added 12.

Tuesday’s night contest against North Iberville could be best described as a game of runs. The Bull-dogs started off strong building a double –digit lead early into the contest. But the Bears came storm-ing back . It seems that every time the Bulldogs made a run, the Bears had

Fashions is a big thing among teenagers. Every teenager aspires to be stylish, a trend-setter, fly, or fresh, to set them-selves apart from their peers. White Castle’s teens, boys and girls, were polled and her are the results of what fashion is in among teens.

The PBS Team will be host-ing a Valentine’s Day Social on February 13, 2009. Any-one who does not receive a referral or a tardy from Monday, January 12th-Febuary 13th will be in-vited to attend the event. Remember if you receive one referral or one tardy you will not be able to at-tend. Students will be able to purchase Valentine’s items with their Bulldog bones.
