In History we have been looking at Australian immigration; in particular the gold rushes in New South Wales and the effect that this had on the Australian population. For example over 500,000 migrants poured into Australia and those already in Australia also came overland to the diggings. We were required to find three sources of information on life on the goldfields and its effect on immigration and produce a poster to present our work to the rest of the class. We have also covered a lot of interesting topics in maths but the two most interesting projects were the planning of a mystery flight and the building of houses. Our mystery flight required us to plan a trip to four cities and to work out the accommodation and excursions we would take at each destination. We were given 50 000 km of free flights and a budget was set for the other two areas. We were not allowed to go over budget. With the house we had to make a floor plan and then build it to scale using grid paper. Both these activities were a great deal of fun. Another activity we really enjoyed was the building of towers in Technology. We were looking at what makes a structure strong and discovered that triangles are the strongest for bearing weight. B5 is excited to showcase their hard work to parents and other students!

BULL CREEK PRIMARY SCHOOL

This term the students in B5 have been studying a number of interesting topics.

In History we have been looking at Australian immigration; in

particular the gold rushes in New South Wales and the effect that

this had on the Australian population. For example over 500,000

migrants poured into Australia and those already in Australia also

came overland to the diggings. We were required to find three sources

of information on life on the goldfields and its effect on

immigration and produce a poster to present our work to the rest of

the class.

We have also covered a lot of interesting topics in maths but the two most

interesting projects were the planning of a mystery flight and

the building of houses. Our mystery flight required us to plan a

trip to four cities and to work out the accommodation and

excursions we would take at each destination. We were given 50

000 km of free flights and a budget was set for the other two

areas. We were not allowed to go over budget. With the house we

had to make a floor plan and then build it to scale using grid paper. Both these

activities were a great deal of fun.

Another activity we really enjoyed was the building of towers in Technology. We

were looking at what makes a structure strong and discovered that

triangles are the strongest for bearing weight.

B5 is excited to showcase their hard work to parents and other

students!

From the Principal’s Desk

Sports Thank You

A sincere “Thank you” to everyone involved with our 2015 Faction

Athletics Carnival. Many staff, parents and supporters of the school

assisted in all sorts of different ways - coaching; scoring; judging and

generally encouraging the girls and boys to do their best. A special

“thank you” to those staff who got to school very early on Thursday morning to set up for

the day. Special thanks and high praise for Mr Boyes (our Phys. Ed Specialist) for doing

the massive amount of pre-Carnival preparation - thank you Mr Boyes. Thank you to Mrs

Spence and her great Canteen Helpers for catering for the hungry athletes - thank you

ladies! Finally to Gold Faction - well done! Also we must acknowledge the efforts,

sportspersonship and enthusiasm of the lovely Bull Creek girls and boys!!

Student Numbers and Classes for 2016

Thank you to all our families who have returned the blue “Return Slips” about their

intentions to be at Bull Creek P.S for 2016. Some families because of house relocation or

interstate and international transfers will, of course, leave us at the end of this year. All

this early information helps greatly with class planning for 2016.

Have a Nice Holiday!

I would like to wish everyone an enjoyable Term 3 Holiday. We have two of our families leaving today

for interstate and another suburb - we wish those families all the best for the future and

thank them for their valuable contributions to our school. Conversely, we have two new

families commencing at the start of Term 4.

Just a reminder that the children commence school on Tuesday 13th October. The

Monday is a Planning and Professional Development

Day for staff.

Cello Excursion

In week nine of this term, three lucky cello students were selected to attend a School of Instrumental Music excursion for year 4 beginners. The selected students were Miriam, Fran and Aarani. The girls began studying the cello at the beginning of the year and were selected for the excursion as they have made enough progress to have their first orchestral experience. There were approximately 150 students from many different schools that attended the excursion over three days. Miss Monkhorst, the cello and orchestra teacher was thrilled with the girls’ efforts and consistent practice while preparing for the event. The Bull Creek music program will soon require three more students who would like to learn to play the cello.

Glee Club Performs at Crown Theatre

Congratulations to the Bull Creek Primary School Glee Club who performed at Crown Theatre on Wednesday, 9

th September as part of the WA Government Schools Music Society

showcase. The Glee Club consists of 31 girls from years four to six. They entertained the audience singing ‘Dancing in the Street’ and danced away to ‘Footloose’ by Kenny Loggins from the movie of the same name. The Glee Club worked as a team to bring together a very polished performance on the night. The girls from Glee were so excited to perform at The Crown Theatre! Thank you to the parents who came along to watch them perform. This is an experience they will never forget. Thank you to all the students in Glee Club for their hard work and their parents for their ongoing support.
