Bulk Cooking Saves Time
Think of bulk cooking—preparing a large quantity of food at one time then freezing it for later
use—as a domestic investment. By following these steps, and putting in some extra effort
upfront, you'll save yourself loads of time and stress in the long run.
1. Plan: Determine how much food you want to make (two week's worth, a month's worth,
etc.), plan a menu for that period of time and then write your grocery list. Get coupons
ready and scan sale circulars during this phase so you'll have a plan of action when
you go shopping.
2. Shop: You'll spend longer periods of time at the supermarket, but you'll make fewer
trips there. Stick to your list as closely as possible and don't be afraid to go to more
than one store if it helps you get the most for your money.
3. Cook: Depending on how much food you're preparing, you should set aside the better
part of a day for cooking. If possible, do prep work such as chopping and measuring
beforehand.
4. Store: This last step might be the most important. Let the food cool completely before
freezing. Make sure you have plenty of room in your freezer before you start cooking.
Label all items so you remember what's what when it comes time to enjoy your efforts.
