Fourth Grade Enjoys Days of Taste

The signature educational program of the American Institute of Wine & Food (AIWF) is a discovery-based program that introduces elementary school children to the basic elements of taste and teaches them how food travels from farm to table. The program brings together chefs, farmers, and volunteers in the community with children to encourage them to appreciate and enjoy the taste and benefits of fresh

food. Bollman Bridge's 4th graders are fortunate to participate in the program this year, experiencing the four traditional elements of taste (salty, sour, bitter, and sweet) in the classroom last week.

From your PTA…

Get Excited for the Battle of the Books!

Any parents of 5th graders who are interested in competing in the April 10th Battle of the Books (sponsored by the Howard County Library System) should plan on attending the meeting at the Miller Branch Library on Tuesday 10/21 at 7pm. For more information, please visit the library website at http://hclibrary.org/battleofthebooks or contact Ms. Sneeringer or Ms. Melencio in the BBES media center.

Can You Help at Fall Fest/Math Night?

Mark your calendar now for Thursday 10/23 when Fall Fest/Math Night will be held at Bollman Bridge from 6-7:30pm. Volunteers are needed to make this event a great success! Please contact [email protected] if you can arrive early to help set up or stay late to help clean up or if you can help with math games or fun activities during the evening! Also, donations of nut-free cakes are needed for the always-popular cake walk. Please contact Ms. Eckstrom at [email protected] if you can donate a nut-free cake.

TONIGHT: Howard County Candidates Forum at BBES

Join us in the Bollman Bridge cafeteria at 6pm this evening, when a candidates forum will be held, giving citizens the opportunity to hear in person from candidates running for public office this November -- Howard County Board of Education, County Council, County Executive, State Delegate, and State Senate. There is still time for both adults and students to submit questions for the candidates to [email protected], particularly those that specifically pertain to southeast Howard County and our school system. Election Day is just around the corner!

Are you interested in gaining a better understanding of your child's mathematics program or hoping to provide additional support and practice opportunities for your students? Did you know that October is National Bullying Prevention month? Mark your calendar now and make plans to wear orange on Unity Day. That’s when people around the country will join the movement to “Make  it  Orange  and  Make  it  End!” In 2011, Ellen DeGeneres promoted the cause on television by wearing orange and reminding millions of viewers about the importance of bullying prevention. Plan on wearing orange on

Wednesday, October 22nd to show your support!

This month, BBES is taking the Bully-Free Pledge:

I promise not to bully. I promise to help those who are bullied.

I promise to respect others and to treat other people, as I would like to be treated. I promise not to hit others, exclude others, or call others mean names.

I promise to use the STAR steps to deal with bullies: Stick Together!

Tell the bully to stop. Alert an adult at school or home.

Respect others and treat them the way you would like to be treated. I promise to do my best to create a bully free school!

Our next Bridge Bash is this Thursday, Oct. 16th! Classes will be playing BINGO; winners will be

entered into a grade level drawing for a prize!

In celebration of Walk to School Month, the Wellness Team and Green Team are planning to participate in Walk to School Day. We will be encouraging students to walk to school on

Tuesday, October 28th. Walkers are encouraged to walk to school, and we are identifying two ‘meet-up’ spots for students who typically ride the bus. We are asking parents to join us in the

walk to Bollman Bridge!

“Meet-Up” Spots- BBES staff members will start walking to school at 8am.

Location 1 OLD Savage Volunteer Fire Company

8925 Lincoln Street, Savage, MD 20763
