“Every problem is a business opportunity for someone else”

We Cannot Find Talent

“It’s not just finding people with specialized skill sets, it is changing the way we train employees, so the company can hire those with manufacturing experience or those coming from a McDonald’s”.

“We have to change the culture, “Business has to do a more aggressive job in trying to grow your own workers and doing it earlier.”

“If they have the will. We will train them in the skills we need. We are not scared of that challenge. What we need is the talent”.

Talent EcoSystem

Identify what is limiting the company in finding candidates for hire

Are there channels being overlooked and pools of candidates that are not being considered

Investigate Obtain input from your Current Partners and your current employees. Ask your new hires why did they decide to work for your company?

As a potential Employer Partner find out the Community Organizations in your region which are engaged in workforce development and inquire how your company can contribute to their efforts

EngagementAre their possible opportunities for company tours, internships, speakers to introduce community organizations to consider an advanced manufacturing career pathway for their constituents?

Retaining TalentHas your company created training programs for all employees – such as an apprenticeship program - which offers mentoring and is tied to career progression. Are work life balance and flexibility policies part of the benefits offered by your company?

Is your company culture ready to commit to the hiring and retention of women and diverse candidates in manufacturing?

A talent ecosystem is formed when different entities work collectively to solve shared challenges and meet shared objectives- finding the best workforce talent for Manufacturing.

Who Should Be a Part of Your Company’s Talent EcoSystem?

Why Registered Apprenticeship?

The Myths and the Reality

Page 11: Building Your Company’s Talent EcoSystem Using

The Myths

• It’s a union thing• It’s too hard to do• It’s too expensive• I already do this, or I can do it on my own

The Reality• Apprenticeships are in all industries• Resources are available to support

you and make it easier• Hardest part is developing the work

process (and you should be thinking about this for your jobs anyway)• You are currently losing productivity

for poor OJT

MAP2 Students TestimonialsJoey Wheeler - Festo CorporationThe MAP2 is an excellent apprenticeship program and is also, one of the best experiences that I have had. Now, I have a new position in my job, as a Manufacturing Engineering Technician and my responsibilities are to start to implement Industry 4.0 projects/actions to move my Company several steps forward into a Digital Company.

Steven Gott - VEGA Americas. The MAP2 program provides the right environment to grow into the ever-advancing field of manufacturing. The topics covered are wide ranging but also highly specific and in depth when necessary. The program provides students with the technical know-how through theory and practical application, but it also encourages the development of critical thinking and soft skills so that graduates aren’t just technically inclined, but well-rounded individuals who are able to contribute in many different ways.

Page 24: Building Your Company’s Talent EcoSystem Using

MAP2 Students TestimonialsDan Geiman - VEGA Americas. With all the hands-on training I am getting with the program, I was able to learn and do very well in all my classes. But overall, the program is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to better themselves. I truly feel this program would not be what it is without Cristobal. I have learned so much in my time with the program. The time spent working with circuits helped me to assist maintenance at my work with an issue, and the print reading skills I have learned in class allow me to understand the parts that I need to fabricate.

Tony Hermeling - RELIANCE MEDICAL PRODUCTS.Cristobal, I feel like you are doing an excellent job in all aspects of the MAP² program. I really have learned a lot from you in everything we have done for my personal self and for my career. I’m impressed with your knowledge. You really know your stuff. I love the program and you do an incredible job!

“Our company lacks the internal resources to fully develop apprentices, and Festo has been perfect for bridging that gap for us. We are able to hire talented individuals with strong attitude and aptitude but, limited experience, and Festo is able to round these individuals out for us in a way that we never could. The Festo program gives them diverse hands-on lab experience that they cannot get at a university, or even within our own organization –and the instructors at Festo have been really outstanding. I feel like my company now offers an “apprenticeship” option which we only dreamed of in the past.” - Greg Knox, President of Knox Machinery

“VEGA is proud to support initiatives that encourage students to consider careers in advanced manufacturing. Apprenticeships at successful advanced manufacturing companies like VEGA are rewarding, fulfilling, and engaging. Today’s students, like those who participate in the MAP2 program, will be the employees who lead VEGA in the future, and we are honored to be a sponsor for this program.” - John Kronenberger, Co-CEO VEGA Americas, Inc.

“At LOGOMAT, we work with a lot of young professionals in both our engineering staff as well as in our team of technicians. Engineering positions can be filled through the current college education system, but it is becoming increasingly difficult to find knowledgeable technicians who have interdisciplinary skill sets and the ability to adapt to changing requirements. The MAP2 program helps the Cincinnati area overcome this challenge by educating a new generation of skilled technicians and promoting modern manufacturing. The MAP2 program offers students a theoretical and a hands-on education to ensure they have the knowledge and skills required to succeed in the constantly evolving manufacturing industry. MAP2 benefits the employers in a valuable way as well, allowing them to network and learn from one another and to give feedback to ensure the program provides the most benefit to each of the players involved.” – David Huemmerich, General Manager of LOGOMAT
