Texas PRIMA has been working on building the pyramids of risk management for 30 years and we intend to continue that momentum with our Annual Conference & Expo in November! This year’s conference theme is “Building the Pyramids of Risk Management.”
We will be in Galveston, Texas at the beautiful Moody Gardens Hotel and Convention Center. Pack your favorite Egyptian costume to wear to Monday evening’s Casino Night and Dinner, which will feature the band Suede! The educational topics are going to be top notch as always and you are sure to leave with new risk management best practices to share with your team. Join the Texas PRIMA Board, other professional colleagues, and your friends as we journey through four days of professional development, networking and fun. Make your reservation now, see you in November!

KEyNoTE SPEAKERS oPENINg KEyNoTE: PETE SMITh dARE To MATTER: how PuBlIc RISK MANAgERSRISE To SIgNIfIcANcE
Today’s risk management
professionals have a necessary, yet
difficult job to do. In order for them
to do their job well, they not only
need the right knowledge, they must
also be excellent communicators,
effective problem solvers, and
possess a high degree of self-
confidence, all while balancing the
stress of never being caught off
guard. Because of the demands placed on them, risk management
professionals need to maintain their own heightened level of
motivation, engagement, and commitment on a daily basis. The
keys to do so don’t reside in a pursuit of success and happiness;
rather, they exist within a relentless pursuit of significance. After
years of research, interviews, training, and observation, Pete
Smith reveals the significance framework outlined in his best-
selling book, Dare to Matter. This framework reveals the six major
pillars of significance and how they can be incorporated into
our daily lives. This framework challenges traditional thinking
of success and happiness and presents an alternative, possibly
contrarian, approach that will leave you feeling inspired, engaged,
and committed to making a bigger impact in this world. With
his career spanning over 20 years, Pete Smith is an international
speaker and coach in the fields of leadership, management,
personal growth and development.

Retired Deputy Chief Bruce Ure was
present backstage at the Route 91
Harvest Music Festival in Las Vegas
on October 1, 2017 where he was
injured from bullet shrapnel. He
is credited for saving three lives,
including placing a tourniquet on a
victim, commandeering a vehicle,
driving down the oncoming lane on
Las Vegas Blvd. and transporting three
critically injured victims to a local trauma center. Chief Ure uses his
experience at the worst mass shooting in American history to deliver
a personal message of survival. He was bestowed the highest honor
by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, the Medal of Valor, for his actions in
Las Vegas. Chief Ure shares his experience, describes personal and
professional lessons learned and offers encouragement to those who
might face tragic and similar circumstances in the future, because it is
not if, but rather when, another mass shooting will occur.
EducATIoNAl SESSIoNSThe sessions offered at this year’s conference represent a full
range of issues important to you, your entity, and the integrity of
the risk management programs for which you have responsibility.

educational sessions will be offered, benefiting long-time risk
management professionals and staff, as well as those new to the
profession. Tracks include: General Risk Management, Employment
Practices & Benefits, Workers’ Compensation, and Safety & Claims.
coNTINuINg EducATIoN cREdITSContinuing education credit will be obtained from the Texas
Department of Insurance and Commission for Case Manager
Certification for select sessions. Registrants wishing to obtain CE
credit must sign in and out at each session. Visit the registration
area during the conference for questions and to obtain a
