BUILDING STRONGER
COMMUNITIES TOGETHER
United Way of Franklin County
2016 Annual Report FY 2015-2016
The year of 2015-2016 brought change to the United Way of Franklin County.
It being my first year as the new Executive Director, I had much to learn and
manage very quickly. It was an exciting and challenging year. With the help of a
fantastic board of directors and great staff, things happened- I am proud of how
much we accomplished together for Franklin County!
Franklin County Young Professionals organized its first event. Over 100 people
attended and a planning committee was formed. Now celebrating their 2nd
year,
FCYP has recently hosted the FCYP Nonprofit Board Fair with Leadership Pioneer
Valley’s Leaders OnBoard program, and collaborated with the YMCA in Greenfield
for Dodge for a Cause! Currently they are developing a strategic plan with lots of
new ideas and opportunities for area young professionals to get involved.
As you may know, United Way relies heavily on employee giving via workplace campaigns, accounting for almost
40% of our total 2015-16 campaign. But as the traditional workplace is changing-businesses closing or becoming
increasingly corporate and less local, the philanthropic landscape is transforming. United Way of Franklin County
recognized the steady decline of workplace campaigns and began a special giving program to grow our support
for our partner agencies.
In September 2015, the ‘Community Builder’ program was implemented– a monthly giving program for donors
who want to have a sustainable, ongoing participation in many programs, social issues & community needs across
Franklin County. This program allows United Way of Franklin County to plan better and lower fundraising &
administration costs so more funds go to our partner agencies serving residents with the most need.
In 2016, we doubled the number of Community Builders!
The board of directors embarked on a 3-year strategic plan that will focus on our Community Investment
priorities -- whether or not we are meeting the needs of our community and addressing the most pressing
issues. The plan will help direct campaign funds and show us where United Way has the greatest opportunity
for making a deeper impact in Franklin County.
United Way of Franklin County collaborates with many organizations throughout the county to better understand
and learn how we can have a greater impact. With every dollar raised, thanks to donors like you, we work together
to build a stronger community. What we raise here stays in our community, funding over 40 community programs
through our partner agencies. I invite you to learn more about United Way of Franklin County and become
involved with this great organization. Together we build a stronger community for all.
With much appreciation,
Sandy Sayers, Executive Director

Creating a supportive and healthy early foundation helps children to
become successful adults. During their school years, children need to
build on this early foundation in order to graduate from high school and
achieve financial stability as adults.
The United Way is committed to providing children access to learning
opportunities within our community. Education is essential to a
community’s economic prosperity, thus providing jobs with livable wages
and benefits. Education Programs focus on children up to age 18.

Sometimes people need assistance with the skills necessary to support
themselves and their families, especially during emergencies and life
transitions. This can include the transition of moving from homelessness
to a shelter or to a home or apartment. It includes access to food and
clothing, jobs, and English language training.
Financial Stability Programs focus on food insecurity, crisis intervention,
adult job and life training, and youth development.

Women’s Way – or the Women’s Leadership Council –
was formed in 2005 by a group of local women wanting
opportunities to make a difference in their community.
Every year Women’s Way hosts two events, “Supper for
Six” and “It’s Blooming Backpacks“, to support the needs of
children and families in Franklin County.
In June of 2016, Women's Way held the United Way Day
of Action Oral Health Drive, providing community
members with oral health kits.
BUILDING STRONGER COMMUNITIES TOGETHER
UNITED WAY OF FRANKLIN COUNTY
August 2015, 565 backpacks filled with
school supplies were collected.
February 2016, 454 “Supper for Six” bags

distributed to the community.
Formed to help develop and enhance
opportunities for the next generation of
