Rule #2Market

• You are a walking billboard– Be a BYU-MS ambassador constantly

• Communicate virally – Email to as many sources as possible– Use social media

• Communicate by word of mouth– Tell about your experiences– Invite people to events– Share learning and resources

Rule #3Invite to Boards

• Newer boards: the key to growing chapters is to first develop the board• Invite and involve people to participate at

the board level • Mature boards: the key is to use regular

rotation for board positions• Invite new members to participate as others

depart• Change responsibilities.

Rule #4Engage

• Be welcoming and gracious to all attendees– Hospitality and connection are key to relationships

• Be aware of member/visitor needs and interests– Attract great speakers and topics

• Engage the membership– Allow them to contribute

• How it started?– “We need something for women” fall 2004.– Needs assessment and survey fall 2004.– Silicon Valley WOMEN (Women’s Organization for

Mentoring, Education, and Networking) was organized in 2005.• Quarterly meetings• Functional groups (accounting, real estate, law, etc.)• Work with Management Society chapter

Benefits to Women

• Networking and mentoring• Flexible work for educated women who
