BuildingaNewManresa.Howurgentisit?Your prayers are asked as we ponder thisquestion for our mission. There has a been asurge in requests for retreats, days ofrecollection, individualthreeandHivedayguidedretreats. These are the run of themill requests.However, with many retreat houses closingbecause of costs or lack of personnel,Manresa Spirituality Centre in Pickeringhasbecomemoreandmoreattractive.

Our clientele is not merely from Jesuits:who have annual retreats, meeting ofJesuit superiors, meeting of Jesuitapostolates,formationdaysforJesuits.

We now have requests from other religiousorders like the Redemptorists, the ScarboroughMissionaries, the Spiritans, and themost recent,weretheOblatesofMaryImmaculate.

OtherChristiangroupswhoenjoy thepeaceandquietofManresahaverequested timeandspaceatManresa. TheyappreciatethesacredspaceinawaythatisamazingandedifyingtousCatholics.SometimesasDirector,Isaytomyself,ifwecouldonlylearnfromthemandfollowtheirwonderful

exampleofsilence.

We have currently theweekend Ignatianretreats. This includes four talks, twoEucharistic celebrations, Reconciliationand Counsellors. Besides that, we havetwo night stay, Hive hearty meals, whicheveryone says are both delicious andplentiful.

The urgency forManresa in Pickering is visible.We’ve been here for over 70 years, and we’relookingforwardtomanymore.

TheChaliceProgramme:PrayingforVocation.

This is a prayer tradition for an increase of vocations to priestly and religious life. Eachweek,oneofthefamiliestakesa“ChaliceandPaten”Set,home.Themandateistoprayforvocations. The family keeps the Chalice and Paten at a central place in the home. Eachmorningornightorboth,thefamilypraysforvocation.The“sendingforth”oftheChaliceeachweekisasolemnandimpressiveone.ItremindsoneofJesussendinghisdisciplestogoandproclaimthegoodnews.

TheCharismaticPrayerGroupmeetseveryweekinFlemingHall.Theyhavetakenontheresponsibilitytohandoverthechalicefaithfullyeachweek.Thisprayertraditionhasbeengoingonforoversixmonths.

ProblemsGalore…SinceManresaManorandFlemingHallarebothintheir80’s,foraslongastheyhavebeenused, problems with the buildings are part and parcel of each weekend, it sometimesseems.

However,addedtothatarethesomerambunctiousyoungstersintheneighbourhood.OvertheChristmasholidays,someofthemdroveatfullspeedaroundtheManor,overthegrass,infrontoftheLaStortaresidence,nearlytakingdownthestonemonolith,andHinallyoverthelawn.Themarksonthelawnwereclearlyvisiblethroughthesnow.ThankGodnoonewashurt.Wehadonedeathfromsimilarcircumstancesjustoutsidethefrontgatein2009,oneseriousinjurytwoyearsago.

Besidesthat,thedishwashingmachineapparentlyblewagasket.Therewasaleakinthebasementbelow.However,Br.Bobassuresmetherewasnotmajordamage.Itwasquicklyrepairedandisnowrunningwell.

Last years pilgrimage to the originalManresa in Spain by our Pickering staffproved so successful and enriching thatwearetakingasecondtripthisyear,withanewgroup.-We will spend four days of prayerfulreHlectioninManresa.-We will visit the Hospital where St.Ignatiusworkedasapilgrim.-We will stay at the Retreat House builtover“CovaIgnasi”theCaveofIgnatiusasitiscalled.-A trip toMontserrat is scheduled for thethird day of our stay. Our tickets have been bought, allthatisleftisbookingourhotelinBarcelona.-Herewewillspendfourdaysofsightseeingandvisitingplacesof interestasselectedbythegroup.WewillvisitGaudi’s La Sagrada Familia and share our excitingadventuresatamealeachnight.

These days of retreat provide silence and solitude for entering more deeply into the mystery of Jesus’ passion, death and resurrection.

This retreat begins on Holy Thursday evening and concludes Easter Sunday morning. The suggested offering is $ 245.00 per person. OPEN TO MEN & WOMEN.

It includes 3 night’s accommodation, meals, retreat program and the opportunity for reconciliation, spiritual direction as well as our Triduum services.
