THE CONSEQUENCES OF CHOICE(particularly for people with severe disabilities)

•low status (unemployment);

•limited competence (little or no challenge);

•In the name of choice, Florida has supported services that promoted long-term dependence (poverty);

and

• lack of respect (segregation)

FLORIDA COMMITMENT(includes people of working age with severe disabilities)

•Florida expects that working-age people will pursue and maintain gainful employment.

•The “day” service option available to working age people should be employment support – not “adult day training” or sheltered workshops.
