INTRODUCTION

MicroStrategy 2019 introduces HyperIntelligence™, the biggest breakthrough in the world of analytics since Mobile. HyperIntelligence makes Zero-Click Intelligence™ a reality for every user throughout the organization—from salespeople and business analysts to executives and frontline employees. Developers can use Workstation to quickly build and deploy cards that are designed for use with the MicroStrategy HyperIntelligence extension in Google Chrome and the MicroStrategy HyperMobile app.

This hands-on workshop is an introduction to MicroStrategy’s HyperIntelligence capabilities focused on the creation, distribution, and consumption of cards. In this workshop, you will:

• Install the HyperIntelligence extension in Google Chrome

• Explore a set of out-of-the-box demo cards on topics like Fortune 500 companies and universities

• Create a cube to use as a dataset for your very own card

• Build a card in Workstation using the card editor

• Distribute cards to specific people or groups using access controls defined in Workstation

• Surf the web to see how the card you built works in a real-world scenario

• Leverage the card you built in MicroStrategy HyperMobile to get intelligence on the go

Deliver Intelligence to 100% of the organization with HyperIntelligence

The people in your organization read the news, browse the web, send and receive emails, and interact with other apps every day. As they perform these actions, your organization's employees may encounter customers, products, or personnel with whom they would like to build relationships. These daily web and mobile interactions naturally elicit questions which require further analysis.

Most people don’t have the time or knowledge required to seek data. Instead of placing the onus on your organization's employees to halt their normal activities to perform tangential analysis, an Intelligent Enterprise empowers employees by seamlessly delivering data on the web pages and apps that they already use.

For example, a salesperson may receive an email from a customer that she has not met, asking for a product that she has not encountered. Directly in the email web app, the salesperson can scroll over the customer name and see a picture, a phone number, current title, and past purchases. She can scroll over the customer's company name to identify the quarterly sales figures generated, current contract date, and VIP status.

To help with her sales pitch, the salesperson can scroll over the product and see the product price, margin, current discount, and inventory figures. Before her meeting with the customer, MicroStrategy HyperMobile sends her proactive alerts with cards containing information on attendees and the organization. HyperIntelligence provides her with critical business information in bite-sized chunks to support the

thousands of decisions she makes every day. The power of HyperIntelligence lies in its ability to seamlessly distribute data as a user hovers her cursor over underlined keywords, as in the following image.

Because each individual card can contain information from a variety of sources, MicroStrategy makes it easy for card creators to bring together formerly disparate enterprise data and arm people with the information they need to confidently make decisions in the moment.

EXERCISE 1: CONNECT WORKSTATION TO AN ENVIRONMENT

Today, employees rarely work on the same project from day to day. For example, a banking business analyst may need to analyze data, share compelling information and solutions, or implement new procedures or trainings for multiple branch locations on any given day.

MicroStrategy Workstation makes these tasks easier by providing you the tools to accomplish multiple goals all in one platform. Workstation is a unified tool that combines the power of MicroStrategy Library, user management, and content authoring into a single user experience. You can access dossiers, reports, Library, documents, datasets, and user management in Workstation. It enables you to generate insights offline or when connected to the server.

In this exercise, you will connect Workstation to a MicroStrategy on AWS environment that contains applications, dossiers, datasets, and users. In a later exercise, you will use this environment to import data for analysis, build and deploy cards, and manage user permissions.

Access your environment through Workstation

1. Open MicroStrategy Workstation.

2. In the navigation panel on the left, click Environments.

If your environment is not displayed, click Environments in the navigation panel on the left.

Now that you are connected to your environment through Workstation, let’s start building cards.

EXERCISE 2: IMPORT DATA AND BUILD A CUBE

Now that you have built out the use case for your card, it’s time to identify the dataset that you want to leverage. For the purposes of this workshop, you will use the Countries Excel file that can be found in the Supporting Files Folder. In this exercise, you will import that file as a cube, wrangle the data to prepare it for analysis, and build out a multi-form attribute that will serve as the basis of your analysis.

Each card that you build in MicroStrategy has a keyword attribute – the element that triggers a card to appear. However, based on the specific use case, you may want the card to display additional information such as other attribute forms. For the Countries card that you will build during this workshop, you want the card to display whenever a user hovers over the country name or abbreviation. You also want the card header to contain an image of the county’s flag – as seen in the image on the left. To accomplish this, you will need to create a multi-form attribute.

12. To convert the % Below Poverty Line, % of Internet Users, and Literacy Rate objects to metrics, click and drag the objects to the Metrics area of the table. The table should now resemble the following: NOTE: When a user imports data, MicroStrategy categorizes information as either an attribute or a metric. These categorizations are based on a variety of heuristics, but can sometime improperly categorize a metric as an attribute, or vice-versa. To change the categorization of a column, simply drag the field from one section of the drop zone to the other.

13. Click Finish.

14. Save the file as Countries_firstname_lastname under the following path: HyperIntelligence\MicroStrategy Tutorial\My Personal Objects\My Reports

Now that your dataset has been cleaned and imported, you are ready to build your card.

EXERCISE 3: CREATE A CARD TO DISPLAY EASILY CONSUMABLE DATA

In this exercise, you will use the Profile template to build the Countries card.

Create a card using Workstation

1. In Workstation, select Datasets from the navigation panel.

2. Right-click Countries_firstname_lastname and select New HyperCard from Countries_firstname_lastname.

The card editor window opens. If you don’t see Countries in your datasets, click the Refresh icon

3. You can choose from two card templates – Basic and Profile. The profile template is the best fit for the Countries card. The profile template allows you to add images, such as the country flag, and donut widgets that display percentages, such as literacy rate. To change the card template, click Change Template, then select Profile.

Page 19: BUILD AND DEPLOY HYPERINTELLIGENCE CARDS

4. Drag and drop the Country attribute on the card header to define the Keyword Attribute for this card.

As mentioned above, each card is defined by a Keyword attribute. With multi-form attributes, card creators can also display secondary attributes in the card header (such as nickname, twitter handle, or email). These secondary attributes can also be used for synonym matching – broadening the list of potential matches that trigger a card in the browser. This is especially important in scenarios where an attribute element can be referred to by different aliases. For example, “Robert Jackson” may also be known throughout an organization as “Bob Jackson.”

5. You want the Country Name attribute to display as the card header. Click the Manage Attribute

Forms icon, then select ID.

The country name is now displayed as the primary attribute in the card header instead of the company website.

Page 20: BUILD AND DEPLOY HYPERINTELLIGENCE CARDS

6. Click the Alternative Keyword Matching icon and select DESC. Now the country ID will also be used as a keyword for the card.

7. Drag and drop the following attributes and metrics to the KPI areas of the card:

• Capital

• Population

• Density

• Land Area

• Internet Users

• Econ Freedom

• Land Area

• GDP PPP

Page 21: BUILD AND DEPLOY HYPERINTELLIGENCE CARDS

8. In the profile template, you can add metrics that are percentages to donut charts. This adds another visual element to your card to help contextualize the data and highlight key metrics. Drag and drop Literacy Rate and % Below Poverty Line into the Charts drop zones.

9. You want to add the country fun fact to the card. Footers are the best area for descriptive attributes that are longer, or URLs that might take up more space on the card. Drag the Fun Fact attribute to the footer drop zone. Your card should look like the image below.

Page 22: BUILD AND DEPLOY HYPERINTELLIGENCE CARDS

Format the card’s visual design

1. Notice that the Econ Freedom attribute name is too large to fit in the card template. To change the font size, select the Format menu. Then, in the card template, click the list of KPIs.

2. Move the slider on the Label size to the smallest font size.

Next, you want to change the color of the header. When multiple cards match a keyword in Chrome, the card is underlined with the same color as the card header, as shown in the example below.

Although this is currently the only card in your organization, you are planning on building more. As such, you want a distinct header color for the Countries card.

Page 23: BUILD AND DEPLOY HYPERINTELLIGENCE CARDS

EXERCISE 5: CERTIFY AND DISTRIBUTE YOUR CARD

When making business decisions based on data, data governance, which is the overall management and integrity of data across the enterprise, is a critical asset. Certifying a document, dossier, dataset, or card ensures data accuracy by implementing governance across a self-service deployment and clarifying which content is tied to trusted data sources. Certified objects, such as the card in the image below, have typically been reviewed by trusted members of your organization and are considered official sources of content, based on reliable data.

Cards must be certified before users can interact with the card in Google Chrome and on their iOS devices. The Vice President of Programs approved the Countries card for usage in his team, so you can now certify the card. In this exercise, you will certify your card and assign privileges that grant access to your card.

Certify your card

1. In the Workstation window, select HyperCards.

2. Right-click the Countries card you created, and select Certify.

3. The Certification icon is added, signifying the card contains a governed dataset and has been approved for use across the organization.

Provide access to your card

To ensure users have the appropriate HyperIntelligence privileges, security is set at each level of the card, including who can author cards, how to log into the Chrome plug-in and HyperMobile app, and what data users can view. Administrators can use Workstation to:

• Set permissions and security settings that control which cards are available to specific groups and individual users. For example, only HR managers can see an employee card that displays salary information. Administrators can also control who can edit the card. For the employee card, only the HR analyst has permissions set to edit the card.

• Apply security filters that restrict access to data in the warehouse, narrowing the data that users can see on cards. For example, an environment has a dataset that contains data for all branch offices of Dunder Mifflin. The administrator added a security filter so that regional managers only see information for their region.

Only the Programs division (called MicroStrategy Groups in this exercise) at your organization should have access to the Countries Card. In this exercise, add MicroStrategy Groups to your card. Then, edit their access so they can only view the card.

1. Right-click your card and select Properties. (Mac users click Get Info.)

2. Click Security Access. By default, your MicroStrategy account has Full Access privileges, meaning you can view, modify, delete, and execute this card.

3. Search for and select MicroStrategy Groups.

Note: Mac users will need to click the + sign to add a new user.

Page 27: BUILD AND DEPLOY HYPERINTELLIGENCE CARDS
