The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the
Buffalo Trail Public Schools Regional Division #28 was
held in the Administration Building Boardroom on
Wednesday, May 15, 2019.

19-106 MARIOTT: Moves that the Board support the Central
Services Year End as per the recommendation of the
Superintendent.

There was a concern regarding how international field
trips are being offered to other schools in the
jurisdiction. The Superintendent will follow up with
administrators for clarity.

19-107 ARCHIBALD: Moves that the Board accept the Teacher and
Support Staff Reports as presented for information.

3. Assistant Superintendent’s Report:
- International Student Recruitment Proposal
The Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent explained
the initial stages of a proposed international student
recruitment program to the Board and what the startup
looks like. The Board had an opportunity to ask questions
for clarification. A solid program ahead of launch is a
priority.
19-108 ARCHIBALD: Moves that the Board support funding for the
international student recruitment program with
$30,000.00 from the 2018-2019 school year.

Student Engagement – Students and Community Engagement
High School Students from JR Robson, Kitscoty Sr.,
Hughenden and EH Walter joined the Board via video

Student Engagement Cont.:
conferencing to talk about engagement in their
communities. Students shared that they find out about
events through ads in local papers and through various
forms of social media. In addition, many community
members come into schools to engage with students like
VIBE and RCMP. Students also participate in local
field trips to places in the community like the water
treatment plant, hospital, fire department and daycare.
There was no shortage of examples of students and
community engagement. The Board Chair thanked all the
students for participating in the engagement with the
Board and told them they did a great job.

The information was shared with the Board. The PSBAA
campaign has wrapped up.
- Try a Trade Thank yous
The Superintendent told the Board that the division has
had Hugh Forester at the table representing BTPS for
the past 10 years. Now his wife Deana also helps with
Try a Trade as well as Mrs. Paul. Mr. Forrester attends
a number of meetings each year to coordinate the event
at no cost to the Board.

the sponsors of Try a Trade, as well as BTPS
representatives Hugh and Deana Forrester.

19-130 LIVINGSTON: Moves that the Board approve the
amalgamation of bus routes in the Provost area as
presented by the Director of Transportation.

K. TRUSTEE REPORTS:
- ASBA – Trustee Livingston reported that the proposed
policies for the ASBA SGM were reviewed. He shared
that the presentation by Dr. Phil McRae on Anxiety and
Choices Children are Faced With was good. In the
presentation, it was shared to be mindful of
electronics time. They also reviewed the budget. Sept
13 and Jan 17 are possible meeting dates for next year.
- PSBC – Trustee Spornitz Shared information from the
April PSBC meeting where there was a lot of political
speculation. PSBAA is developing a resource on the
website for trustees similar to the ASBAA site. The
Student Voice is happening at the SGM and any adults
are welcome to attend. The new Minister of Education
will attend. St Albert will be hosting the August PSBA
meeting.

K. TRUSTEE REPORTS Cont.:
- ASCA – Trustee Gorniak shared that the Alberta School
Council Association conference was very informative.
Dr. Jody Carrington was a guest speaker and she is
always good. Other sessions she attended were; Growing
up Digital that spoke about how much time students are
spending on technology and The 2 sides of a Mental
Health Story from the perspective of a mom and daughter.
