This is the first of four meetings between the Sabres and Canadiens this season.

Last meeting: Montreal defeated Buffalo 7-4 in Montreal on March 23.

Next meeting: Thursday, Jan. 30 in Buffalo

The Sabres are 4-4-2 in their last 10 games vs. the Canadiens; 5-3-2 at home.

This is the 284th game all-time between Buffalo and Montreal; Buffalo has a 129-113-41 series record.

The Sabres are 74-40-27 at home against the Canadiens all-time.  THIS DATE IN SABRES HISTORY

The Sabres are 4-11-2 all-time on October 9.

October 9, 1995: Michael Peca scores his first goal as a member of the Sabres in a 5-3 loss at Boston.  THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW

The Sabres are 2-0-1 through three games. It’s the first time Buffalo has started a season with points in three straight games since

the team went 4-0-1 through its first five games of the 2009-10 season.

Buffalo is looking to start the season with wins in both of the team’s first two home games for the first time since the 2008-09 season,

when they won the first three.

Through three games, the Sabres have already gotten points from 14 different players this season. Rasmus Dahlin (1+4), Victor

Olofsson (3+1) and Sam Reinhart (2+2) have all tallied at least a point in each of the team’s first three contests.

The Sabres went 7-4-3 at home against the Atlantic Division last season, including wins against the Canadiens on Oct. 25 and Nov.

23. A win tonight would give the Sabres wins in three straight visits from the Canadiens for the first time since March 12, 2012 to Feb.

7, 2013.

 HOT AGAINST MONTREAL

Casey Mittelstadt has posted a point in each of his first four career meetings with Montreal (1+3).

Jeff Skinner has recorded 19 points (13+6) in 19 games against Montreal since the beginning of the 2013-14 season, including

seven points (4+3) in four games against the Canadiens last season.

Marcus Johansson (0+4) and Sam Reinhart (2+2) have each totaled four points in their last four games against the Canadiens.

Jack Eichel has recorded two points in each of his last three games against Montreal (1+5).

Jake McCabe (0+3) and Jimmy Vesey (1+2) each recorded three points in three games against the Canadiens last season.

Colin Miller enters tonight’s game with an assist in both of his last two games against Montreal.

Rasmus Dahlin recorded an assist in three of four meetings with the Canadiens as a rookie last season.  SLICK VIC

Victor Olofsson enters tonight’s game on a career-best three-game point streak after tallying four points (3+1) through Buffalo’s first

three games. He skated a career-high 20:54 on Monday at Columbus and scored a goal with 1:14 remaining in regulation to send the

game to overtime.

All three of Olofsson’s goals this season have come on the power play, giving him sole possession of the league lead in power-play

goals entering play Tuesday. He also led all rookies in goals (3), points (4) and shots (9), and led rookie forwards in ice time per

game (19:04).

Since he made his NHL debut on March 28, 2019 vs. Detroit, no NHL player has scored more power-play goals than Olofsson’s five

in nine games played.  PLAYING WITH POWER

The Sabres entered play Tuesday with the top-ranked power play in the league, converting on six of their 10 power plays through the

first two games of the season (60.0%).

According to NaturalStatTrick.com, Buffalo also ranked among the league’s leaders in shot generation with the man advantage,

averaging 2.59 shots (3rd) and 4.18 shot attempts (5th) per two minutes of power play time.  LET’S GET DANGEROUS

According to NaturalStatTrick.com, the Sabres ranked second in the league entering play Tuesday with a high-danger scoring

chance percentage of 70.59%, out-chancing their opponents 24-10 in high-danger situations at 5-on-5 through the team’s first three

games.*

By this metric, Jack Eichel and Jeff Skinner tie to lead all Sabres with three high-danger scoring chances during 5-on-5 play.

Skinner tied for ninth in the league with 94 high-danger scoring chances last season. *A complete definition of scoring chances can be found at http://naturalstattrick.com/glossary.php?teams. WELCOME TO BUFFALOThe Sabres had five new players on their opening-night roster this season:
