Social Studies Changes To Better Prepare Students for IB HL Social Studies:
9th Grade AP World History in place of 9H
10th Grade AP European History in place of Global
11th Grade History of the Americas (IB)
12th GradeWorld Topics (IB)
Academic Highlights❏ 66 students taking IB exams in Chemistry,
Biology and Psychology❏ Every 11th grader is enrolled in IB Language and
Literature “Women and Point Zero”❏ Science Group 4 project ❏ Backward mapping math so the program is more
accessible for a larger group of students❏ IB Film is a very popular course among students.❏ Mandarin 3 will be added to program❏ TV STUDIO….
❏ The 9th Show recently launched their YouTube channel.
❏ The 9th Show's website has been updated. All students have access to this site.
Singular Live GrantSingular is a live graphics
generator that can be used to create and display on-screen graphics during a broadcast/livestream. It's
used by large networks such as ABC and Fox
Sports.
FOCUS ON: Social Emotional Learning
How do we continue to help students navigate adolescents?
❏ Our new social worker, Ms. Morales, is implementing the Smart Connect Lessons into the Academic Study periods before lunch.
❏ Mrs. Furlong did an outstanding presentation on the “The Fine Art of Breaking Walls” on the Berlin Wall and empowerment to model for the faculty how to incorporate social emotional learning into all curriculums.
Recommendation:The addition of a leadership program for the 9th grade transition
Clubs
MODEL UNITED NATIONS(New 2019-2020 replaced Newspaper)Model United Nations Club participated in a Model United Nations Conference in Hudson, New York and Highland, New York. Students heard a guest speaker from Liberia who survived the Civil War whose father was killed. She faced tremendous adversity as she walked to a refugee camp where she also dealt with violence.
DANCE CLUB (2020-2021 will replace a club to be TBD)An after-school club in which students of all levels can learn different dance techniques including but not limited to ballet, tap, jazz, and broadway. Technique of these different styles will be taught, as well as, stretching and strength exercises to further the knowledge of injury prevention.
Targeted Purchasing for Future Planning:● classroom furniture● classroom libraries● circulation for library print/electronic is very high- could be
expanded to meet student need- niche collections (diverse authors/own voices, IB etc)
● Science Research Competitions● Robotics Program
Personnel to be considered for Future Planning:● Head of Guidance● Part time Dean of Students to assist with discipline and the
8th-9th grade transition.
