Buddhism-Places of Importance

There are several places in India, which are of Buddhist importance. Among them the prime

locations are BodhGaya which is a place for the enlightenment of Gautama Buddha. Gautama,

who famously sat under the Pipal Tree (which is now world renowned as the Bodhi Tree), got the

enlightenment here and thus got the name ‘Buddha’, which means the enlightened one. The place

where this Tree is located is BodhGaya.

The places which are highly relevant to the Buddhism include the places like Kapilavastu, Lumbini,

BodhGaya, Sarnath and Kushinagar etc.

Lumbini and Kapilavastu: Kapilavastu is the place which is the place which is famous for

being the birthplace of Lord Buddha.

Buddha and is the widely accepted place for the birthplace of Gautama Buddha.

the place, Gautama sat under a Pipal Tree and vowed not to rise until he attains

enlightenment.

Sarnath: Sarnath is the place where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon or the first

teaching. Sarnath is the place where Gautama Buddha delivered his first speech in the

form of the four noble truths to his five disciples. The site where he delivered the teaching

is known as Dhamek Stupa.

Kushinagar: When we talk about Kushinagar, it is the place where Lord Buddha died.

Kushinagar is the place where the Buddha’s cremation stupa is located and is a well known

tourist place among others.
