BUCS International Strategy (Draft)
• To regularly achieve GB post holders at World, European and national level in multi and single sport political, medical, and technical roles within university sport (FISU, EUSA and ENAS) • To host one European or World level championship every 2 years, and one political meeting or educational event every 4 years • To work with NGBs and UK Sport to maintain opportunity to send fully and professionally supported GB university teams to world-level events as part of the performance pathway • To work within FISU/EUSA/ENAS and UK Sport international development opportunities to offer select groups of students an opportunity to take on international leadership and volunteering roles, as part of a BUCS Leadership Programme

Speed Skating
In 2010, Great Britain competed in 19 of
the 27 FISU sports on offer. Over 170
students represented GB from 57 BUCS
Universities clinching 21 medals and two
overall Team victories. This equates to
30% of athletes medalling.
International Competition
• Entries must contribute to the NGB performance pathway
• BUCS prioritises entries against available resources and additional considerations including but not limited to : national performance agenda, BUCS domestic sporting programmes, participant numbers and relative performance levels
• Each selected athlete will be required to make a Personal Contribution of £390 or £660 (depending on location)
• Direct funding for the Summer Games 2011 was 25% Personal Contributions, 37% NGB’s, 28% Grant and Sponsorship funding, 9% BUCS and 1% TASS
• Excluding professional and non-Olympic sports – 22 of 107 Universiade athletes at the 2011 Universiade have been selected for the 2012 Olympics (so far), eg. greater than 1 in 5

• EUSA events are ‘Champions League events’ for the Top-4 finishers in BUCS competitions • Represent your University against the best Uni’s in Europe • Single-sport Championships in ‘odd years’ • Multi-sport Games in ‘even years’ • Take place June-September • Sports include : Badminton, Basketball, Football, Futsal, Golf, Judo, Karate, Rowing, Rugby 7s, Table Tennis, Tennis & Volleyball • 26 entries in 2011, representing 40 BUCS Uni’s • BUCS will contact prospective entrants for ‘13 around Xmas ’12 • Also : the annual SELL Games (no qualification criteria)

• Attributed about 15 months ahead, via BUCS • Financial Commitment is £3k, plus 5% of 65E/pp/pn participation fee • Bids currently sought for all sports in 2015 (deadline : 01 Dec) • Event costs are broadly ‘affordable’ 2.
