COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 9 Ohio State University men’s gymnastics team is set to compete in St. John Arena for the last time as it hosts the No. 4 University of Illinois Fighting Illini for senior day. The senior day festivities are set to get underway prior to the 5 p.m. start, and the event airs live on BTN.
Last Time OutThe Buckeyes hit the road for a Big Ten clash with the Iowa Hawkeyes in Iowa City. Five Buckeyes took event titles, but the team was narrowly edged for the team win on the day as OSU fell by a score of 399.650-396.400.
Alec Yoder continued to prove why he’s the premier pommel horse competitor in the nation, taking his sixth title of the season on the pommel with a 14.550. Yoder wasn’t finished though, as he notched a 14.500 on the vault, tying co-captain Joey Bonanno for first place on the afternoon. Over on the rings Max An-dryushchenko took his second title of the year with a 13.750. Alex Wilson brought the heat on the parallel bars, notching a 13.850, tied for first on the day. Last, but certainly not least, Jesse Tyndall took his first ca-reer win on the floor with a 13.950.
National ScoresOhio State enters the meet with the ninth-highest four score average in the nation with 402.250. The Buckeyes rank in the top 10 in multiple categories, including third place on the pommel horse (67.617) sixth place on the the parallel bars (67.150), seventh place on the rings (67.250) and vault (71.100) and 10th place on the floor (68.000).

Individually the Bucks are led by Alec Yoder and his 14.750 national qualifying average on the pommel, good for third in the nation. Sean Neighbarger is no slouch himself as he holds the fourth-highest NQA on the vault with a 14.650.
Illinois holds the fourth-highest four score average in the country with 410.133. When it comes to spe-cific events the Fighting Illini rank third on the floor (70.300), fourth in both the pommel (66.617) and the vault (71.567), and seventh in both the parallel bars (67.033) and high bar (66.383).
Scouting the HawkeyesThe Fighting Illini enter the weekend ranked No. 4 in the nation and are coming off a strong performance last weekend against Michigan and Penn State. Nis-sen Emery finalist Alex Diab holds the top average in the country on the rings with a 14.867, and the fifth-highest average on the floor with a 14.500. Mi-chael Paradise holds the second-highest average on the pommel with a 14.833, while Johnny Jacobson’s 80.050 all-around is good for seventh in the nation.
Yoder Named Nissen Emery FinalistSenior Alec Yoder is among the finalists for the prestigious Nissen Emery Award, given annually to that year’s outstanding senior collegiate gymnast. Buckeyes Score Season-High Against Penn StateThe Buckeyes showed hardly any rust after a month in the gym, notching a season-high score and defeating Penn State, 413.150-409.000 on Saturday at the Arnold Challenge.
Ohio State took first place on the pommel as Alec Yoder scored a 14.800 in his specialty. Jesse Tyndall used the Arnold Challenge as his playground, taking first place on the parallel bars with a 14.600 and tallying a 14.000 on the high bar. Angel Leon continues to shine for the Bucks, scoring a 14.100 on the floor, 13.950 on the rings and the parallel bars, and a 13.850 on the high bar. Max Andryushchenko tied the highest score of the day on the rings with a 14.200, while Alex Wilson took first place on the vault with a 14.650.
Yoder and Melton Earn Spots on U.S. Senior National TeamAlec Yoder of the Ohio State University Men’s Gymnastics team has been named to the United States Senior Men’s National Team through the 2019 U.S. Champion-ships, USA Gym officials announced last month.
Yoder joins Sean Melton, who secured his spot with a strong performance in the all-around competition at the Winter Cup on Feb. 15.
Melton took sixth place with an 81.750 score on the evening. His strongest per-formance came on the rings where he tallied a 14.450, good for fourth place. The 2018 Nissen Emery Award winner tied for fifth place on the pommel horse with a
