Kurzbiografien der Autor/innen Gökce Yurdakul (PhD, University of Toronto) ist Georg-Simmel-Professorin an der Graduate School for Social Sciences der Humboldt Universität Berlin. Sie hat zuvor in der Bilkent University, Türkei, an der Brock University in Ontario, Kanada, und am Trinity College Dublin gelehrt. Ihre frühere Forschung wurde von dem Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) und dem Forschungsinstitut für gesellschaftliche Entwicklung der Vereinten Nationen (United Nations Research Institute for Social Development) unter-stützt. Zuletzt erschienen von ihr u.a. „From Guest Workers into Muslims: The Transformation of Turkish Immigrant Associations in Germany“ (Newcastle: Cambridge Scholars, 2009). Yurdakul und Bodemann sind HerausgeberInnen von zwei Sammelbänden: „Migration, Citizenship, Ethnos” (New York: Pal-grave Macmillan, 2006) und „Citizenship and Immigrant Integration: Compara-tive Perspectives on North America and Western Europe” (New York: Palgrave-Macmillan, 2007). Y. Michal Bodemann (PhD, Brandeis University) lehrt Soziologie an der Univer-sität Toronto, mit Gastprofessuren u.a. an der FU Berlin, Humboldt Universität, der Universität Potsdam und den Universitäten Haifa und Tel Aviv. Seine Dis-sertation an der Brandeis Universität behandelte Fragen der Sozialstruktur Süd-italiens. Später bewegten sich seine Forschungsinteressen in Richtung soziologi-scher Theoriegeschichte, jüdisch-deutscher Beziehungen und Holocaust-Erinnerung. Neben publizistischer Tätigkeit und zahlreichen Artikeln in wissen-schaftlichen Zeitschriften und Sammelbänden sind wichtige Veröffentlichungen hierzu sein „Jews, Germans, Memory. Reconstructions of Jewish Life in Ger-many“ (Michigan: University of Michigan Press 1997. Sein „Gedächtnistheater. Die jüdische Gemeinschaft und ihre deutsche Erfindung“ (Hamburg: Rotbuch Verlag 1996) stand auf der Monatsbestenliste der deutschen Buchkritiker. Zu-letzt erschienen von ihm u.a. „In den Wogen der Erinnerung. Olena Bagno ist Newbauer Fellow am Institute for National Security Studies, Israel. Sie unterrichtet Methodologie für Sozialwissenschaften am Interdiscipli-nary Center, Herzliya. Ihre Forschungsinteressen umfassen internationale Migra-tion, politische Psychologie und russische Außenpolitik. Sie hat sich in ihrer umfangreichen Forschung mit in Israel und Deutschland lebenden Migranten aus der ehemaligen Sowjetunion beschäftigt. Darüber hinaus war sie an einem Pro-jekt beteiligt, in dessen Rahmen die wirtschaftliche Integration von Immigranten in Kanada, den Vereinigten Staaten, Israel und Deutschland untersucht wurde. Irene Bloemraad (PhD, Harvard University) ist Associate Professor für Soziolo-gie an der University of California, Berkeley und forscht darüber hinaus im Auf-trag des Canadian Institute for Advanced Research. Ihre Forschungsinteressen liegen im Schnittpunkt von Immigration und Politik mit besonderem Schwer-punkt auf Fragen der Staatsbürgerschaft, der politischen und zivilgesellschaftli-chen Partizipation von Immigranten und der Auswirkungen von Migration auf staatliche Ideologien. Zu ihren umfangreichen Publikationen in diesem Themen-feld zählen u. a. „Becoming a Citizen: Incorporating Immigrants and Refugees in the United States and Canada“ (Berkeley: University of California Press 2006; lobende Erwähnung für den Thomas & Znaniecki Best Book Award von der Abteilung International Migration der American Sociological Association) und „Civic Hopes and Political Realities: Immigrants, Community Organizations, and Political Engagement“ (herausgegeben in Zusammenarbeit mit Karthick Ramakrishnan, New York: Russell Sage Foundation Press 2008). Pascale Fournier (S.J.D. Harvard Law School) ist Assistant Professor für Rechtswissenschaften an der University of Ottawa und wissenschaftliche Mitar-beiterin des Human Rights Research and Education Centre. Sie erwarb den aka-demischen Grad des Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) an der Laval University und den Grad Master of Laws (LL.M.) an der University of Toronto. Sie arbeitete an-schließend als wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin für die Richterin Madame Justice Claire L’Heureux-Dubé am Supreme Court of Canada. Sie verfasste darüber hinaus politik-wissenschaftliche Berichte für den Canadian Council of Muslim Women und den Entwicklungsfond der Vereinten Nationen, für den sie im Jahr 2008 als Beraterin für Genderfragen und islamisches Recht arbeitete. In ihrer aktuellen Forschung untersucht sie die Migration zweier Formen religiöser Ehescheidung in westli-chen säkularen Gerichten, den jüdischen Get sowie den islamischen Talaq, wo-bei sie die subversiven Strategien erforscht, derer sich jüdische und muslimische Frauen auf ihrem Kurs zwischen den entsprechenden religiösen und säkularen Bereichen bedienen. Professor Fournier ist gegenwärtig Mitglied des Board of Directors for Canada World Youth, der Foundation Paul Gérin-Lajoie und des National Network on Environments and Women’s Health. Im Jahr 2008 wurde sie mit der „Raymond-Blais Medal“ der Laval University für herausragende Leistungen geehrt, und im Jahr 2009 wurde ihr die Auszeichnung „Advocatus Emeritus“ der Anwaltskammer von Québec verliehen. Anna Korteweg (PhD, University of California in Berkeley) ist Assistant Profes-sor für Soziologie an der University of Toronto. In ihrer Forschung konzentriert sie sich auf Themen im Zusammenhang mit muslimischen Immigranten in den Niederlanden, Deutschland und Kanada. Sie untersucht Definitionen nationaler Identität in der öffentlichen wie in der parlamentarischen Diskussion hinsichtlich der Frage der Integration von Immigranten. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit widmet sie dabei der Art und Weise, in der die Kategorie Gender zum umkämpften Be-reich geworden ist, in dem nationale Identitäten festgeschrieben werden. Als Teil dieser Forschung veröffentlichte sie Analysen der öffentlichen Diskussion an-lässlich der Ermordung Theo van Goghs, aber auch von Ehrenmorden in den Niederlanden und Deutschland, sowie Scharia-basierter Vermittlungsansätze in Ontario. Der Schwerpunkt ihrer früheren Arbeiten lag auf der Konstruktion der Staatsbürgerschaft auf Seiten amerikanischer Sozialbehörden.
