Unit 1: Information Technology Systems [Exam]

How hardware and software work together in business.

How people use IT – individually and in business.

The impact of IT upon the world around us.

Provides a solid understanding of why IT is so important

within and beyond business.

Unit 2: Management Information Systems [Practical]

Businesses NEED IT to make their company run – FACT.

You will produce a database system to support a business.

Provides an understanding how businesses use IT to

manage information. E.g. Tesco Club Card, Asos Clothes

The role of social media in business.

How business use social media for marketing.

The benefits and potential issues of using social media.

Know good web design principles for effective websites.

Design and build a website for a business using HTML

and scripting.

Provides an understanding of website building and

effectiveness.

BTEC ITSummer Work

Pick a business you are interested in. Conduct some

research to find out how they use social media and their

website.

Produce either a single page report (max 600 words) or

presentation which discusses:

The business (who / what they do).

An evaluation of their website (purpose / good / bad

points).

How they use social media (which platform(s), example

uses).

Discussion of impact (does their website / social media

work? If not why? What would you do differently?)
