A. Understand the rules, regulations and scoring systems for selected sports.
Lesson Objective. To know and understand the roles and responsibilities of sporting officials
Classroom: Interactive teacher input of the following aspects. The following need to be covered: Examples of the different roles (Umpire, referee, referee’s assistants, Judges, timekeeper etc.) Examples of sporting activities that have different officials. Responsibilities of officials in sport. Including: Appearance, Equipment, Fitness, Qualifications, interpretation and application of rules, control of players, accountability to spectators, health & safety, fair play, use of technology, effective communication Good and bad examples of officials performing well/not performing well Teacher feedback on assessment activities. Practical session focusing on roles and responsibilities of officials
Learners can identify a wide range of roles of officials through a range of sport giving examples from each sport. Learners complete a task focusing on the responsibilities of a match official in one sport
Learning Aim A – PowerPoint Access to DVD’s, appropriate YouTube clips.

Group discussion of understanding of officiating roles – Feedback to the rest of the group. Learner ability to apply rules and make appropriate decisions based on the rules

4 Learning Aim.
A. Understand the rules, regulations and scoring systems for selected sports.
Lesson Objective. To know and understand the rules, regulations and scoring systems.
Classroom Session Teacher to discuss and explain the application of different rules, regulations and scoring systems using a variety of examples from different sports Regulations: Players and participants, equipment, playing surface, facilities, health and safety, time, officials (referee, umpire, judge, starter, timekeeper). Learners to research the written, formal rules (laws) for their chosen sport
Learner ability to begin to apply the rules, regulations and scoring systems Learner to be able to describe 5 key rules that beginners need to know in each of their chosen sports Learner to be able to describe the regulations for their sport(s)

Classroom session. Introduction of Assignment Brief Task 1 – Part A. Rules, Regulations and Scoring Systems Leaflets (First Sport) Learners to use knowledge and understanding gained so far
Learner ability to meet Grading criteria: 2A.P1 and partial 2A.M1
PC’s and networks Internet access if tasks are completed using PC’s. Paper/Folders/Writing equipment if tasks are produced on paper.
