Case studies
Unilever operates globally with world-leading brands – including Wall’s Ice Cream, Lipton and Knorr – consumed by two billion people daily. As well as a fully integrated network providing voice, data, video and mobility services to 173,000 employees across nearly 100 countries, BT delivers collaborative services like audio and video conferencing, helping Unilever become increasingly more agile and introduce more sustainable ways of working.
Norton Rose Fulbright wanted to work with a specialist service provider to run its new Risk Manager client application. A BT On Demand Compute hosted solution enables the firm to manage and monitor its own cloud-based virtual data centre. A flexible and scalable service it offers class-leading security with low start-up costs. Norton Rose Fulbright achieved faster time-to-market and has seen 100 per cent uptime.
Anglo American wanted to create an IT platform to support business applications and collaborative tools on a global basis. Outsourcing worldwide ICT infrastructure to BT under a now-ten-year contract has delivered significant cost savings and also enabled the implementation of a shared services strategy.
13 The Next Generation
• Many organisations still hesitant to spend, but 2014 looks like being a year of cautious recovery in IT spend – with budgets generally set slightly higher than in 2013
• Cost control still key for 40% of organisations, but focus for some shifting from cost cutting towards how to use IT to support and drive the business
• Core IT is now a standardized core, a "black box" into which the business units can plug their stuff. And tomorrow, it's their stuff that will drive value, not the core IT
• Organisational spending power shifting to the line of business leaders
• A time of massive technology disruption as cloud, mobile, big data analytics, social media and M2M potential emerges
• From suppliers CIO’s want insight and thought leadership, to challenge them and help them transform
• Enterprise architecture has re-emerged as a critical priority with the focus on cloud readiness and services integration, security and business processes.
