B sc Nautical Science – Course Details

IMA provides B.sc Nautical Science which is a three years (6 Semesters) course in which the first

phase (semester 1 & 2) is about familiarizing the student with various aspects in workshop

comprising of carpentry, plumbing, machine shop, electrical shop, hot work as well as essential

safety study components mandated as perquisites for seagoing employment. He will undergo

training on mandatory STCW Course as required for seafarers. On successful completion of the

semester 1 & 2 diploma in Nautical Science is awarded to the candidate.

B sc Nautical Science – Course Details

After completion of the pre-sea training the trainee undertakes the sea phase of

18 months comprising semester 3, 4 & 5 with onboard ship residential training

along with correspondence course. The onboard study includes project work,

correspondence material and record book along with many routine and

operational duties at sea.

B sc Nautical Science – Course Details

On successful completion of phase II (semester3, 4 &5) the trainee will be

awarded with advance diploma in Nautical Science. Then he has to undergo

4 months of post-sea training (2nd Mate Function). In this final phase he

will be trained on ship management duties which include administration

and organization, business and law, ship handling, ship master nautical

knowledge and command navigation. On successful completion of the

training & passing the exam he will be awarded certificate of competency

by Director General of Shipping and B.Sc. Degree in Nautical Science.
