Directions (Q. 1-3): Study the following information and answer the questions given below. In a certain code, ‘aa be rs’ means ‘go went gone’, ‘ub rs wa’ means ‘you go home’, ‘wa de’ means ’ means ‘you want’ and

‘lo aa’ means ‘went do’.1. What is the meaning of ‘wa’?

1) you 2) do 3) home 4) go 5) want2. How will ‘do you go’ be written in this code?

1) aa wa rs 2) rs ub wa 3) lo wa rs 4) rs de wa 5) None of these3. Which of the following represents ‘go’?

1) be 2) wa 3) ub 4) rs 5) None of theseDirection (Q. 4-8): In these questions, relationship between different elements is shown in the statements. These

statements are followed by two conclusions. Mark answer1) if only conclusion I follows.2) if only conclusion II follows.3) if either conclusion I or II follows.4) if neither conclusion I nor II follows.5) if both conclusions I and II follow.

4. Statements: X < Y Z; W > Y VConclusions: I. V < Z II. X < W

5. Statements: M < P > Q; T P > RConclusions: I. T > M II. M > R

6. Statements: M > P; T R; M = R; T QConclusions: I. R < Q II. M = Q

7. Statements: C > F; F > G; G < V; V BConclusions: I. C > V II. B > F

8. Statements: P Q R; S > Q > MConclusions: I. R > M II. P < S

Directions (Q. 9-12): In each question below are given two statements followed by two conclusions numbered I and II.You have to take the given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts. Read all theconclusions and then decide which of the given conclusions logically follows from the given statements, disregardingcommonly known facts. Give answer:

1) if only conclusion I follows.2) if only conclusion II follows.3) if either conclusion I or II follows.4) if neither conclusion I nor II follows.5) if both conclusions I and II follow.

9. Statements: Some drums are guitars. Some guitars are violins.

Conclusions: I. Some drums can never be a violin.II. All guitars being violins is a possibility.

10. Statements: No jeeps are trucks. No truck is a bus.

Directions (Q. 66-75): Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions given below it. Certain words/expressions are given in bold in the passage to help you to locate them while answering some of the questions.

By the mid-nineteenth century, the educated Indian had become sufficiently aware of both his rich historical heritageand the abject state of his current existence. Nostalgia and a sense of racial identity grew as Indians gradually perceived theoppressiveness of alien rule. In the early nineteenth century Orientalist scholars associated with the Fort William College,Kolkata, helped considerably to unearth several obscure Indian texts and traditions, thereby also creating a new awarenessand sensitivity among Indians about their cultural heritage.

In the first half of the nineteenth century, particularly in Bengal, patriotism was not grossly inconsistent with anundisguised support for the continuation of British rule. Bengali writers of this period made repeated references to how theBritish had ‘rescued’ India from many centuries of ‘tyrannical’ and ‘unprogressive’ Muslim rule. Many people of this time, infact, made an important distinction between the pragmatic gains to be made from a short-term tutelage under British rule anda long-term objective of securing independence from it. Though such thoughts ultimately proved to be naive and over-optimistic, in the 1820s and 1830s the advantages of British rule seemed to outweigh its disadvantages. In a letter written in1823 to Governor General Lord Amherst, Raja Rammohan Roy (1774-1833) opposed an official move to open a Sanskrit Collegeon the ground that it would produce no positive or progressive influence on the educated Hindu. He felt rather than indulgein abstract metaphysical speculation as was likely to be the result of a purely Sanskritic education, Indians would profit farmore by imbibing the best of modern European civilization pragmatism and a rational, scientific outlook. Social usefulness, more than anything else, was now to be the true measure of things. Rammohan’s emphasis on rationality and a commonsenseapproach to religion led some of his friends and admirers to call him a ‘religious utilitarian’.66. Bengali writers in the first half of the nineteenth century

1) started appreciating the work of Raja Rammohan Roy2) appreciated the British rule for rescuing India from the Muslim rule3) proclaimed themselves as patriotic writers who can save India from cultural aggression4) realized the importance of careful and systematic study of ancient Indian texts5) provided tacit but strong support to the liberation movement

69. Which awarness had dawned on Indians by the mid-nineteenth century?1) The long-term advantage of British rule 2) The secondary citizenship of Indian masses3) Glorious state of their existence 4) Rationalistic attitude towards living5) Rich historical heritage

70.
