INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATIONBACHELOR YEAR 2013-2014

ENGLISH LANGUAGE INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

BSc

International Business Administration (IBA) is a three-year, accredited by the European

Programmes Accreditation System (EPAS) international programme aimed at preparing

ambitious students for a global career in the business world. The programme focuses on

business and management topics within an international context. Our students and lecturers

have a range of nationalities and cultural backgrounds, and learn to work in multicultural and

international teams from day one of the programme. During their studies, students have the

opportunity to broaden their international experience, for example by writing their thesis for a

foreign company, or by spending time studying abroad. The University of Twente has contacts

and agreements with universities all over the world, regularly up-dating opportunities for an

international exchange.

2INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

International Business Administration takes a multidisciplinary approach to researching companies

and their international context. Students can combine a range of business disciplines such as

finance, human resource management, innovation management, purchasing, production

management and marketing.

We teach our students to build bridges between different disciplines and countries, and between theory and practice in the business world. Right from the first module, students forge contacts with the business world, and start developing their business skills at an early stage being in direct contacts with the movers and shakers in business and industry. In addition, professional knowledge and skills are developed through a combination of theoretical courses and practical projects.

EDUCATIONAL MODELThe IBA programme offers modular project-based education. This entails four modules per year that focus on a single project. Students actively apply their theoretical courses and practicals in a project that is based on a specific theme. Because our students go in depth into various themes, they quickly amass a great deal of substantive expertise and can join in conversation with experts in the field. They are trained to be problem solvers who are able to pursue their own personal and professional development in the role of organizer, researcher or designer. Our aim is to train students to become creative innovators who possess the right tools for addressing the socially relevant issues of the future.

MASTER’S PROGRAMMEProgramme graduates receive the title of Bachelor of Science (BSc). They can then enter the labour market or specialize further by pursuing a Master’s degree. The faculty also offers the Master’s programme in Business Administration, in which students can explore the following career options: Financial Management, Human Resource Management, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, International Management, Service and Change Management and Information Management.

FUTUREOur students are trained to analyse problems and devise workable solutions for a range of organizations operating in an international environment. Their skills are true commodities across the business spectrum: in consumer or business-to-business products, retail, energy, consultancy or research. Our graduates are often employed at the management level (finance, marketing, purchasing, human resource management). In addition, some graduates pursue a career in the consultancy sector. Our students are able to build extensive professional networks because they are in close contact with companies and because they cooperate intensively with the international business community throughout their studies. This significantly increases their employability.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS AND ENROLMENTOur programme is designed for ambitious and highly motivated students who are eager to be challenged in an international setting. We have set a number of admission requirements to ensure that our students meet this profile. First, they must have a secondary school diploma on par with the Dutch pre-university diploma. We also require excellent skills in mathematics and a good command of the English language (see for more information about admission: http://goo.gl/F5aRa).

If your child meets the admission requirements, then he or she may enrol in the programme. The enrolment deadlines for the first classes in September are as follows. Our Admission Office will be happy to help you with any questions you may have about admission to the programme and the enrolment procedure. Admission and enrolment

SUPERVISIONThe University of Twente is well known for its small-scale approach, its teaching staff’s open-door policy and an open and informal culture. Our students receive intensive supervision throughout the programme, and not just from the study adviser but also from lecturers, tutors and mentors who closely monitor progress during all projects. To prevent dropouts during the programme, the university issues a student progress evaluation at the end of the first year. This evaluation is binding. If it appears that a student has not earned the minimum number of required credits, then the student will unfortunately have to leave the programme. It goes without saying that personal circumstances are also taken into account when issuing the evaluation. It is our

Studying International Business Administration at the University of Twente was a great experience. I especially liked the possibility to design the study programme according to my interests, for example by choosing specializations and studying abroad for a semester. The programme really offers a great fit between theoretical knowledge and their application in real life business cases, such as consulting a start-up company about their possibilities to expand to different markets, or analysing the social media strategy of a multinational company. Besides applying the learned theory, you also get the chance to work with other international students and learn about intercultural communication and cultural differences.

ambition to help students advance quickly in accordance with their abilities. We do so by offering modular education, electives, the student progress evaluation and intensive supervision.

EXCELLENCEThe university provides talented students with opportunities for additional challenges on top of the standard curriculum by offering additional subjects. The top five to ten per cent of students may be admitted to our University of Twente Honours Programme.
