The 4-year scheme is advisable for students wishing to acquire an international background and obtain extensive academic and work experience abroad at an undergraduate level.

Personal Development, Leadership, & Entrepreneurial PsychologyTwo unique elective modules, Integral Personal Development & Leadership, and Development of Personal and Entrepreneurial Psychology, are conducted in the first and second years of the course, and underpin the ESE degree programme across all pathways of study.These modules build upon the unique philosophy of ESE, which encompasses self-discovery and personal development as applied to leadership in business.The aim of these modules is to assist students in discovering what they are uniquely suited for, developing personal skill and internal motivation that will provide them with a competitive edge in today’s global market, making them unbeatable.The rationale for these modules is that business leadership requires a multi-disciplinary knowledge and understanding of one's own unique personality, values and ethic. In the first year of study, the Integral Personal Development & Leadership module pushes students to find their “better self” and improve their communication and interpersonal skills. In the second year, the Development of Personal and Entrepreneurial Psychology module looks at leadership and ethics using key ideas from philosophy, sociology and psychology, and explores their impact on business. This module enables students to integrate their critical understanding of the drivers of successful business from a personal and organisational perspective.

The 3-year scheme of study complemented with the ESE Master of Science programme is strongly advisable for students with the primary objective of gaining practical work experience and achieving a postgraduate qualification in four years. Both degree programmes lead to the same bachelor degree with the same credit structure.

Year Three (of the 4-year programme)Students choosing the 4-year BSc (Hons), have the opportunity to further expand the international dimension of their educational path and acquire specific knowledge of the functional areas of their selected specialisation during year three which is composed of two semesters.These students will gain experience in the field of their choice through a 6-month internship and the study of 4 specialised modules at one of our centres or at a partner institution. At the end of this year, the third year portfolio will help students reflect on the distance they have travelled physically as well as intellectually and on the conceptual and practical skills gained in the selected area of study.

Final Year (both 3 and 4-year programme)During the final year students are required to choose four electives and to complete a final thesis. In addition, students will attend Entrepreneurial Psychology - a unique module designed to encourage self-discovery and reflection on one's own talents and resources that lead to the development of a range of entrepreneurial and leadership skills.

Year OneProvides a foundation in business disciplines necessary to support the subjects studied in the subsequent years. Students will also engage in the study of two foreign languages, start to develop their personal skills and discover their unique talents and professional dream through the Sociology module. The year ends with an internship in which students will be expected to gain preliminary knowledge of the sector of choice.

Year TwoExamines the challenges imposed by globalisation, internationalisation and economic transition within business structures, organisations, groups and individuals and sharpens the focus on business operations and functional areas. At the end of year two students are expected to possess solid linguistic skills and a good knowledge of today’s business dynamics. Students should be ready to embark on their second internship as a real asset to the host company.

These programmes are designed to reflect the latest developments and professional trends in International Business, Marketing and Finance. They aim to investigate the most critical issues and challenges arising from globalisation and economic downturn and provide students with solid theoretical grounding, strong strategic abilities and a firm empirical vision of today’s business environment.

The first two years provide a common platform for the specialisation modules of the final two years of the four year programme or the last year of the intensive three year programme.

International BusinessDegree candidates in the International Business BSc (Hons) will learn to formulate and implement strategic plans and to manage complex projects, applying concepts and tools such as PERT-CPM, Bar charting, stage gating and scheduling.

International MarketingDegree candidates in the BSc (Hons) in International Marketing will develop an understanding of critical marketing concepts and the capacity to use the tools and techniques needed for strategic marketing decisions, which can maximise profits and shareholder value.

International FinanceUpon completion of the final year of the BSc (Hons) in International Finance candidates will have acquired an understanding of the theory and practice of capital budgeting, be able to assess the value of an investment and to reflect on the concept of risk and its relationship with expected return.

3-Year BA (Hons) in Organisational Communication with Media Management All ESE centres (except ESE New York) offer an intensive BA programme in Organisational Communication with Media Management.This programme has been designed with a focus on economic/business applications to develop high level professional communicators and communication managers able to deal with the challenges imposed by globalisation and economic transition and foster change and innovation within the Media and Communication Industry.Our graduates are prepared not only to undertake careers as reporters, editors, producers, correspondents, anchors, media managers and public relations specialists, but are equipped with a sense of excellence and integrity inherent to the School and indispensible for success in the profession.

Year Two Alongside with shared modules like Cross Cultural Communication and Research Methods, students will complete four modules, namely Media Management, Organisational Communication, Basic Marketing Communication, and Media Law and Ethics, aimed to provide specific knowledge of: 1) the issues involved in managing corporations operating in the communication and media sector2) the application of communication theory to organisational communication 3) how to prepare a communication plan 4) the constraints and pressures that professionals in this sector have to face as well as their ethical responsibilities

During the third and final year, students will share with the other undergraduate scheme of study only a few elective modules, such as Major Event Management, International Project Management and International Strategic Management, and will undertake an extensive study of areas and issues largely related to their selected degree. The course is composed of three required modules and two electives: Crisis and Communication, Global Challenges and the Media – by which students have the opportunity to appreciate the impact of globalisation challenges on the media industry and communication practices, and learn how to use an integrated mix of communication techniques to deal with crisis. Corporate Communication Strategy adresses topics such as how to design the strategy behind the communication process, identify the audience and address their needs, manage crisis in multicultural environments and integrate the principles of corporate responsibility in the communication process in order to build corporate reputation. New Media Management is a module that blends creative skills with management theories and techniques at the end of which, students will be able to critically assess major issues emerging in the sector and produce a project management plan for a new media production. Public Relations Theory and Practice will develop the students’ awareness of the particular role and function of PR within any organisational context, and focus on the skills and knowledge required to design and implement an effective PR plan.

Year Three ends with an individual research project, bearing 40 credits. Students will have been prepared for this major challenge by the Research Methods module completed during Year two. Final dissertations are therefore expected to be sound, sophisticated, challenging in their scope, and professional in their execution and presentation.

Rationale of the programmeThe 3-year BA (Hons) in Organisational Communication with Media Management shares the distinctive features of the ESE educational approach:• Generalist inter-disciplinary foundation modules common to other degree schemes, aimed to develop students’ understanding of today’s business environment and organisational structures whereby communications, media and culture play increasingly pivotal roles• Emphasis on developing a global perspective throughout the programme• Focus on personal improvement and continuous development of life-long skills• Study of two foreign languages in Years 1 and 2• Company internships in Years 1 and 2

Year oneThe Sociology of Work and Organisations helps students gain an understanding of the massive transformations the world is now undergoing, while also providing a philosophy aimed to empower them in finding a unique role in this new world. The modules of Introduction to Economics, Principles of Marketing, QBM and Fundamentals of Business introduce students to the world of corporations, providing a foundation knowledge of the business settings in which they are likely later to operate. During Year 1, students are also introduced to the principles of Communication theory with the module Mass Communication Theory and Practice aimed at understanding the critical role and impact of Mass Communication on the 21st Century media and communication industry.

ESE SpecialisationsAll ESE undergraduate degrees allow students to gain extensive practical experience of specific business sectors, through the Internship programme and the research for the final thesis. The four year scheme combines the Internship Programme with the study of 4 specialisation modules related to one of the following fields.

ART & HERITAGE MANAGEMENT The pinnacle of a civilisation is captured in the walls of its monuments and on the canvases of its galleries. Its highest expression can not only be seen, but can also serve to inspire through proper conservation and management.The degree programme with a specialisation in Art & Heritage Management will examine various types of art facilities and resources such as museums, galleries, theatres and historical attractions and their relation to cultural events and activities, patrimonial capitalization and management. The specialisation in Art & Heritage Management begins from a cultural management standpoint aiming to prepare a new breed of international graduates with a business oriented approach. The Aria Art Gallery (www.ariaartgallery.com), a partner organization of ESE located just across from the Florence centre, provides students with the opporunity to acquire first-hand knowledge and experience in the dinamic field of contemporary art.

Marco De Biasio, ItalianBA (Hons) International Business My four years at ESE are a constant presence in my life. During this time I completed three internships, gained international experiences, spent a semester abroad in New York, and was offered an important position immediately after graduation with Banca Mediolanum. My time there was a short-lived, but nevertheless enormously useful for my future as a manager. I left Mediolanum without another job offer for the simple reason that ESE had taught me to believe in my dream, and do only what I love. I had no references or plans, but I knew that I wanted to work in the fashion industry. One morning by chance I purchased Il Corriere and read a small advertisement announcing that IT Holding, one of the major Italian groups in the luxury industry, was making a selection of 12 graduates for its sales and marketing department. I sent my CV, and only after learned that another 4,000 candidates had done the same. After one, two, and then three interviews, I received the great news: I had been selected! That was how my career with Allison-the third largest company of luxury eye wear-began. I started in Customer Service, moving along to Key Account in Italy, for large brands like Salmoiaraghi Vigano and Grand Optica. Shortly after receiving a promotion with Allison as the VP of Sales I received a telephone call from Diesel. I am now the manager for the Diesel Intimate and Beachwear division in 26 countries, and I know that this is only the beginning! The School has taught me to “believe and then to see” and not the other way around - to believe in my dream above all else. An advice for all students and alumni of ESE: never lose the golden thread that ties you to the School: it is your most precious possession now and in the future!

ENVIRONMENTAL ECONOMICS Environmental economics is a fundamental issue for the survival of the planet. A new breed of business leaders are needed to manage this material wealth so intrinsically vital to daily life. The degree programme aims to provide students with a critical understanding of the different ways in which economic decisions can affect the natural environment and the ability to evaluate international policies towards the environment and natural resources.On completion of this course students will be able to work as environmental economists in fields such as: public and private sector companies, government ministries, international and non-governmental organisations and carry out consultancy work within the area of environmental economics.

EVENT MANAGEMENT Event management is a rapidly growing area within the services sector not only for its recreational qualities, but also for its power of communication. An event is not only a diversion for the spectators but a tool capable of bringing together large numbers of people for a specific occasion.The degree course with a specialisation in Event Management, while making use of the academic theory behind events, also provides the opportunity for vocational practise by encouraging students to participate in the planning and execution of events as part of their degree through our in-company training programme. FASHION MANAGEMENT The modern fashion industry embraces not only the styling, production and marketing of clothing but also a wide range of industrial and leisure goods. A new genre of managers with a honed sense of creativity and a strong background in cross-cultural communication is needed to cope with the strongly competitive fields of manufacturing and merchandising. Graduates specialising in fashion management will be the first to explore new frontiers and achieve new standards in the contemporary world market. The specialisation in Fashion & Luxury Goods Management provides students with a comprehensive grounding in the main areas of business, management and marketing studies within the context of fashion.

HOSPITALITY & TOURISM MANAGEMENTThe hospitality and tourism industries are major economic and social forces throughout the world. The degree programme with a specialisation in Hospitality & Tourism Management provides a basic foundation in business and management as applied to this business sector with particular emphasis on managerial and entrepreneurial activities such as hotels, restaurants, tour operation, events and conferences - all prime growth areas. Students will gain an understanding of the changing social, cultural, economic and political factors, which influence the tourism and hospitality industries. Through its innovative programme requiring three internships with major hospitality and tourism companies worldwide, students will also explore the potential impact of tourism and hospitality activities in a range of international contexts. MUSIC INDUSTRY MANAGEMENT

In the fast-paced modern world music remains a common denominator and integrating source of communication.The programme with a specialisation in Music Industry Management has been designed as an effective and comprehensive instrument capable of giving a real working structure to the free spirit and unifying force innate in this vastly changing industry. The course of study has been developed to meet the needs of students who wish to pursue a business and management career in the music and media industries. Job opportunities range from project managers to promoters in both private and corporate sectors of the music industry.

SPORTS MANAGEMENT By its very nature, the world of sports commands particular attention. Inviting participation of its devotees on all levels - emotional, physical, intellectual - it thus provides outlets for expression in the entire range of the human spectrum and satisfaction in every realm with the confirmation of both shared and personal achievements. On all sides of the board, sports serve us by doing everything from instilling singular confidence and patriotic loyalty to inspiring individuals and entire nations. The degree programme with a specialisation in Sports Management will enable students to gain knowledge and understanding of the dynamics, issues and practices of sports management at an international level around three main themes: Sports Management, Sports Marketing and Sports Event Organisation.

INTERNATIONAL MANAGEMENTThrough the international management specialisation students will acquire a broad view of managerial issue prominent in today’s business environment and will acquire the necessary tools to face them competently. The international management specialisation gives students an historical perspective on the development of this discipline, and a modern perspective on its philosophical and sociological foundations .

Olivier GilletMy name is Olivier, and I am a French student in my 4th year of study at ESE Milan. I decided to come to this school because it is very international-with students and lecturers coming from many different countries-and also for the fact that lectures are conducted in English. I studied at ESE London during my 3rd year, which provided me with the opportunity to further improve my English. Thanks to ESE and the support given by the academic office, I have completed three internships within prestigious international companies. My experience in the Marketing department of BMW Italy confirmed my preference for marketing... and my love of cars. I have also developed my social networking skills by constantly meeting new people and organizing meetings between students in and outside of the school.

Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded by the ESE Foundation as a partial deduction from the annual tuition fee. Each student profile is considered individually. This scholarship is based on both the academic merit and need of the student applicant. It is therefore important that scholarship applications provide the Foundation Scholarship Committee with a complete profile of the student's personal, professional and/or academic merits. To apply for the ESE Scholarship students must complete the scholarship application form and send it together with the undegraduate application form and documents, including at least one letter of recommendation, to the ESE admissions office where they wish to study.

To maintain their scholarship award students must demonstrate continued academic excellence throughout their studies at ESE. Students who do not continue to perform according to ESE's academic standards may risk losing their scholarship.
