I would like to extend to you my sincere appreciation for taking the time to look through my design

portfolio.

I consider hand graphics to have certain, inimitable qualities about them that digital renderings fail to

capture. I seem to find myself picking up a pencil and marker more often than not, and for this

reason, much of the work on the subsequent pages were produced, for the most part, by hand.

These projects were all completed in the final four semesters of my education at Washington State

University. While most are of my own individual labor, one slide displays group work in which each

team member fulfilled a vital role in the successful completion of the project. This project has been

clearly identified.

Diatrophe , from the Greek meaning “sustenance” or “food”, was a design project that explored ways to provide patrons

with a versatile dining environment. Pullman experiences yearly extreme temperatures and heavy snowfall; hence,

necessary project goals included an enclosed, outdoor dining pavilion and a semi-enclosed outdoor waiting area located

adjacent to the restaurant. Additional open-air seating for up to forty guests was provided to capitalize on eastern

Washington’s warm spring and summer seasons.

Diatrophe | al Fresco Dining Conception | Pullman, WA

The Horticulture and Landscape Architecture Display Garden is a hands-on experience that provides design-build and

plant maintenance education to landscape architecture students. Each year, students of junior class standing participate in

a two-part, design-build course that teaches sustainable design and construction using recycled materials and drought

tolerant vegetation.

The above drawings were completed as an initial, individual project. All group work followed in the previous semester.

Display Garden | Washington State University | Pullman, WA

Group work on the Horticulture and Landscape Architecture Display Garden. This particular project was large scale,requiring more attention to detail, group communication, and client interaction.

Display Garden | Washington State University | Pullman, WA

Program development for the Deschutes River Estuary restoration project in Olympia, WA. A proposed split-basin allows

for natural estuarine processes, while retaining the communal significance of Capitol Lake. The final design included a

causeway with viewing areas and a series of boardwalks along the western edge of the estuary.

Riparian plant material is entirely salt tolerant, and thrives along estuarine tidal flats. Species include Scirpus acutus,

Jaumea carnosa, and Distichlis spicata var. stricta.

Deschutes River Estuary Restoration | Olympia, WA

Masterplan for a new 11-acre park along the western shore of Budd Inlet, just north of the proposed Deschutes

Estuary. Located on a vacant industrial property, this design was the answer to the communal disconnect that exists

between West Olympia and downtown. Masterplan designed in AutoCAD, rendered by hand, and superimposed

onto an aerial photo of the site using Adobe Photoshop. Far left are images of the existing industrial site.

West Bay Community Park | Olympia, WA

These images are various graphic representations of conceptual thought that I developed through the design process.Some are illustrative explorations of specific projects that were meant to aid in the communication of a final designintent, while others are simplistic sketches that explore different methods of graphic demonstration.

Completed using one or multiple media types: drafting and colored pencil, AD Chartpak marker, technical pen, and/orAdobe Photoshop.
