President’s Letter BRSOC Members:
We've had a hot, dry summer so far. It hasn't been conducive to kayaking since they're not able to generate on the Smith River but it's still nice to get outside with great friends! The summer camp was a blast and The Fatz band was a hit! Katie Ferguson was the winner of the LOTSKI at the Campground Cookout but was not present. Therefore, $70 remains in the LOTSKI pot for the next event. As summertime draws to an end, now we can focus on hiking and preparing for some fall activities. The potluck dinner and the Creeper trail are just around the corner. As always, let's get outside!!!
“Fall Fixin’s” Potluck in Figsboro Sat. Oct. 15, 4:00 p.m. – until at Marti & Sam Phillips’ home. Address: 736 Bradley Dr., Martinsville, VA 24112 Please bring your favorite fall dish to share and your choice of beverages. Play cornhole & can jam, fish or hike if you’re feeling energetic, or relax around a campfire if you just want to chill & enjoy the fall foliage. Bring chairs, jackets, and any outdoor play gear you like. Directions, from intersection of King’s Mountain Rd & Figsboro Rd. (Rt. 108): Take Figsboro Rd. 4.87 miles North, right on Dyer Store Rd., (Rt. 657), next right on Bradley Dr. (gravel road), 7/10 mile, look for gray barn with burgundy roof & gray house towards end of road. FEBRUARY 4-11, 2017
SKIING AT MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN SKI RESORT!!!! $1565/PERSON (based on double occupancy) GROUND ONLY FOR $1015/PERSON (If not leaving out of RDU then you can book your own flights and meet us there).
Other Trips:
VA Creeper Trail: o October 28-30, 2016. (Already filled up two cabins for the weekend) o Biking the Creeper Trail on October 29, 2006. Drive up and meet us on the trail!
Snowshoe- January 6-8, 2017: 1st overnight Ski Trip of 2017. Staying 2-nights at the Mountain Lodge. Price range is $305 to $418/person (Rates are assuming max occupancy in a room). Price includes a 3-day lift ticket (deduct $160 if you don’t need ticket). **Security Deposits are due no later than October 1, 2016 of $145.
Winter Place- January 16, 2017: Day trip. Discount tickets might be available. Will advertise later in the year with prices.
Timberline Ski Resort: January 19-22, 2017. All bedrooms taken, HOWEVER, I have floor/couch spots still open. Let me know if you’re interested in one of these spots.
