FIELDING LIBRARY QUICK REFERENCE GUIDEBrowZine

BrowZine is a tool that lets you browse our online journal content. Instead of needing to know a specific journal title, you can simply browse content by subject and category.

You can access BrowZine using the URL below and can download the BrowZine app on mobile

devices.

From your mobile device:

Download BrowZine: From your Android, iOS or Kindle Fire device, visit the Apple App Store, Google Play Store or Amazon App Store. Search for “BrowZine” and download the app to your device.

Access BrowZine: Tap on the app icon to open BrowZine. A list of libraries will appear, please select Fielding Graduate University. Enter your Moodle credentials, the same used to access the library.

Start browsing! Use the Subject dropdown menu to browse by subject categories or our Titles A-Z to find a specific title by name.

On the web:

Fielding’s BrowZine URL: https://browzine.com/libraries/1979/subjects

You do not need to log in to use BrowZine on the web. However, you do need to be logged in to access the full-text of articles therein. If BrowZine does not recognize an active session, it will simply prompt you to input your Moodle credentials to continue.

Browsing by Subject & Category

Sorting Results: A-Z and Journal Rank

By default, BrowZine will sort your results alphabetically. You can also choose to sort the results by Journal Rank. BrowZine uses the SciMago Journal Rank (SJR). Click here to learn more about this ranking system.

Click on the appropriate ‘sort’ link at the top of the results page to toggle between these two options:

Browsing Volumes/Issues within a Journal

By default, when you select a journal BrowZine will connect you to the current volume/issue.

You can select other volumes/issues on the left side of the screen, below the journal cover image. Note that, when available, you can also choose to view articles in press.

If you wish to access an older publication date not seen in the list, click on ‘See All’ at the bottom of the page. This will connect you the journal in Fielding’s catalog, allowing you to see how far back our full text access goes, and to connect to the journal in its given database.

Selecting ‘See All’ will connect you to information about the journal on Fielding’s site. You will see the publication dates to which we have full-text access through our subscriptions. You will also be able to connect to the journal’s site to access older publication dates (those beyond what is available in BrowZine).

Remember, you can always contact the library with questions about subscription access.

Accessing Articles and Other Features

Once you have selected a volume/issue in BrowZine, you will see the list of articles contained therein. You will see a series of icons associated with each article. Those icons function as follows:

1. Clicking on the article title

When you click on an article title in BrowZine it will connect you to the work in the larger database. This is similar to clicking on an article title in FASTsearch.

2. PDF icon

Clicking on the PDF icon will open the PDF directly in your browser. This lets you bypass extra clicks and is the fastest route to the full-text (when available).

3. Link icon

Page 5: Browsing by Subject & Category€¦  · Web viewDownload BrowZine: From your Android, iOS or Kindle Fire device, visit the Apple App Store, Google Play Store or Amazon App Store

The link icon functions the same as clicking on the article title. It will connect you to the work in its database. This is just like clicking on the ‘full text online’ link in FASTsearch.

4. Folder icon

Clicking on the folder lets you save the article to your ‘My Articles’ folder. You need to register for an individual account with BrowZine in order for this feature to work. If you want to save a work, but not download the PDF, then this is a good option. Review the ‘Account Features’ section of this guide for more information.

5. Mortarboard icon

Click here to export a citation of the article. Remember that this feature only captures citation information, not the full-text. If you are trying to save the full-text and citation then use your citation manager as you normally would.

6. Share icon

Use the share icon to get social. This feature will allow you to copy a link to the article, or to login to Twitter, Facebook, or LinkedIn to make a post and link back to the work in BrowZine.

Note: All of these options will not always be available for every work you discover in BrowZine. However, BrowZine will provide every function that is available for a given work.

Account Features: Sign Up, My Bookshelf, and My Articles

You do not need an account to browse journals and download articles in BrowZine. If you want to save journals and articles to your bookshelf, then you will need to create an account.

Individuals can create accounts in BrowZine by clicking on ‘My Bookshelf’ and choosing ‘Sign Up’. You can also click on ‘My Bookshelf’ to log in after you’ve created an account.

Using My Bookshelf

My Bookshelf is the area within BrowZine where you can organize your favorite journals so that the current issue is one click or tap away. Choose the "Add to My Bookshelf" button, just below the journal title, when viewing a journal to add that title to My Bookshelf.

You can then organize my bookshelf by moving the journals between multiple "shelves" and "bookcases" as well as renaming the shelves and bookcases. Then, when you login on any device, this configuration will automatically sync to that device and display red bubbles indicating that you have new articles available in that journal.

Using My Articles

My Articles allows you to save articles you find on the Web, iOS or Android versions of BrowZine into one or many collections, which then syncs across all of the devices you are using via your BrowZine Account.

You can create (and delete) new collections of articles. Articles within those collections can be deleted, copied, and moved to other collections as needed. Regardless of the device used for these operations, all changes are reflected within seconds across all devices, provided an internet connection is available.

In the web version of BrowZine, just click on the folder icon to save a work to your articles:
